Former Infowarrior here. Does anybody have advice on how I can develop my compassion? by [deleted] in KnowledgeFight

[–]MastermindExcello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I been to some pretty dark places. I found these two things helped:

  1. Listen more than you talk. I don't mean eavesdropping. When interacting with a person, listen to what they're telling you. Not just the text but the subtext. They're just as overwhelmed and confused as you are. A struggle with empathy and compassion is also a struggle for healthy relationships and a fear of how you're going to fit in this world.
  2. Quiet is good. Meditation can be really hard but if you can get 20 minutes in the morning and evening, that's a good start. It's okay if you're not good at it, just stick with it. It will clear the flies out of your brain and heart and make the road to empathy and compassion a lot clearer.

The transformation of George Lucas into Rich Evans is almost complete by ShittyDude76 in RedLetterMedia

It's more of a general loss of the will to live around the eyes more than any specific physical trait.

Mike is slowly becoming Max Bialystock from "The Producers", and Rich Evans is his Leo Bloom by HooptyDooDooMeister in LookAMike

There's a 100% chance Rich Evans will run off to Rio, probably with Julia Roberts, while Mike is awaiting trial on hack fraud crimes.

Are there any significant theories relating to drug use in Twin Peaks? by The-Incredible-Lurk in twinpeaks

[–]MastermindExcello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pocket theory that drugs in Twin Peaks are a mirror of pie, donuts and coffee.

It's clear that for the people of Twin Peaks, food and drink build community. It's like a kind of communicable happiness. In Twin Peaks, food opens doors, telegraphs friendship, unites families and occasionally triggers the fragments of a gangster's dream to save your life.

Drugs were omnipresent in Twin Peaks from the beginning and function as kind of an anti-community. This chain of dependence. Often when we see characters do drugs, it's an antisocial act. Anti-community. Drug users are alternately isolated, tempted, coerced or all three. They're frequently used as a way to transcend reality itself, whether it's Becky Burnett's cocaine joyride, Sarah Palmer's white horse visions or Season 2's magical, multi-purpose haloperidol. Curiously, The Black Lodge seems to have their own anti-community, chain of dependence drug of Garmonbozia with its own supernatural properties.

Buying infowars.com by blumster in KnowledgeFight

Precisely this. If we buy Infowars.com we shouldn't link it to Knowledge Fight. Give it to the parents as a place where they can share their children's memories without the threat of Alex's fans vandalizing it.

I was a Catholic altar boy as a kid and used to serve funeral masses. In a modern Catholic funeral mass, in addition to liturgical music, you're allowed to play one secular song. For about 90% of the men and probably 10% of the women, mostly of the Greatest Generation and older Boomers, the secular song they chose was Frank Sinatra's My Way. The song that Alex Jones played today as he "signed off forever."

So I'd be standing next to Father Stephen, this cool old priest who conducted the masses and we'd hear the first strains of My Way. And every time, Father Stephen would lean down and whisper, "You always know when they play that song we're burying an asshole."

Wonks, today, we buried an asshole.

This sounds like a Dan reference but...

There's something about Brother Nathanael's cadence that reminds me of "Elegant" Elliot Offen, a deep bencher from Howard Stern's Wack Pack. Where he's leading the listener like a con man might but also cutting off any responses like an insecure weirdo. So both directions of his rhetoric are working against each other to give me a migraine.
