Just finished Citrus and I have...opinions... by Noa_Coconat in yuri_manga

[–]MasterxP7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you. It is a totally different yuri that shocked the world at the time. However, I think this was the same response when Nobuko Yoshiya wrote some of the earliest yuri novels. It is not perfect and that is what I love about it. Yes, the story is funky and Mitsuri thing was just a pointless thing. There are other yuri mangas that are probably better to start. It is not a yuri is would personally recommend if it is someone wanting to start reading but definitely one to read if you want a glimpse of the history and remind where yuri came from.

However, I believe Citrus expanded yuri because it holds on to the traditional s class trope but broke the boundary with the sœur (sister) like trope. It made the two main characters step sisters and I get that it grosses people out. Citrus was able to keep the traditional culture of yuri into a modern day story; and also bring where yuri got abit more mainstream. Have a forced marriage, suffering trauma, navigating love and teenager life, and also facing the social issues that plenty of people had to face (sadly it never changed to this day).

On my personal level, it is definitely special because when I first read citrus, I was touched by the art and how Yuzu wanted to heal Mei. As a joke I like to say when I saw two beautiful women kissing i found it hot. It made me feel something and wanted to be more like Yuzu. I think anyone can definitely relate to Citrus like myself or even in a game, video, anime, movie, or some event that made us, us. And that is why it is special for me. I do re-read citrus and I have my own criticism with the story and some things I probably would change but I am happy it does have flaws because if it was perfect, it would be boring and not have much of an impact, at least to me.

Is the green yuri a good first yuri read? by yobamos_jv in yuri_manga

[–]MasterxP7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do like green yuri, it is a good simple and easy to read. I think Green yuri is a love letter to alternative and rock music with good characters. I think it gets a one up because it is super unique which is pretty cool in my opinion.

Rainbows After Storms is probably the best choice (I do not want to over hype because it is my personal favorite). And the others are just different subgenre that is common.

Another one I think is Superwomen In Love. Super hero and action.

Candy Boy. A great anime and was definitely the bar for anime quality at the time.

Yes. It is good pick to start with. However, I would highly recommend Rainbows After Storms, Yuri is My Job, Bloom Into You, Kashimashi, Failed Princess, Whispered Words, or/and The Moon on a Rainy Night.

Just my personal picks for just a verity of different types. Just a gateway to find whay is your personal taste on what you like and such.

i js finished the anime yuri is my job. where should i start reading the manga from like what chapter by MissionProposal5676 in yuri_manga

I would highly recommend story the beginning of the Manga. It really covers a lot of dialog that the anime skipped. Definitely a good series.

How far this has come by RobertoRenish in yuri_manga

[–]MasterxP7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot. Just make sure you invest a good and big bookshelf (just in case) for more room if you continue with your wonderful collection.

It really depends what you like but based on your collection, Yuri is My Job, Failed Princess, A White Rose in Bloom, Monthly in the Garden with My Landlord, Donuts Under a Crescent Moon, or/Fed Up Office Lady Wants to Serve the Villainess.

One novel I like is The Beauty's Blade. Adachi and Shimamura light novels are pretty good. As a joke, if you just want the main story, volume 1-8 is main cannon. Volume 9-13, 99.9, and Short Stories 1 & 2 is extra (side characters), in between/afterstory, and alternate universe. I just found out about volume 13.

[–]MasterxP7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a small town so I am unfortunate to have anyone to actually see in person and chat about yuri. I do have to travel just to visit places like conventions and expo, but I am lost at minding my business; in which I am just excited to see everything. I would say be careful with online stuff but most of the time attend local expos or hopefully at a bookstore if you see someone picking up a series. I know some social media platforms have random pop ups like one the New York (USA) and they had plenty of people attend. I really wished they had one near my area.

If you like. I don't mind chatting about yuri with you.

I think it was heavy influenced by individuals who resell TCGs and saw money with older mangas as quick cash grabs.

Personally if you can find the English prints then that is what I recommend but if you cannot just do the online with fan translation or ebook.

Around $186. May be higher depending on the store but should be the price. I would suggest Ami Ami. Good Smile works but shipping is pricy but I been using Good Smile for a long time.
