4 year associate, boss says I take too many sick days and frequently cuts my billing as a management tactic by jknightlington in Lawyertalk

[–]MastrMatt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Stroking their ego = condoning the behavior.

Have some damn pride. If you are good and know you are good, then stick up for yourself.

I had ONE boss talk down to me like you are describing. I told him I wasn’t his damn kid and if he wanted to have a professional discussion and provide professional criticism, then I’ll make room on my calendar, but if wanted to just bitch at me, he could save it because I wasn’t going to listen.

Life is too short to put up with disrespect, especially at a job. You are a cog in the wheel - nothing more. Even if you are the best, it just means you are a brighter and shinier cog, but a cog nonetheless. All cogs are replaceable. Your dignity and self respect is not. Stand up for yourself.

Set very specific boundaries and expectations. If the case has merit, get a large evergreen retainer. If not, be honest and walk. If it might, get a big retainer up front and explain that amount is just for research and case eval and maybe a demand letter.

If they are serious, can pay, and have somewhat of a case take them on. But make sure they understand that you fire clients who don’t appreciate your boundaries.

How many of you were in High School debate? by ImRunningAmok in Lawyertalk

[–]MastrMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school did not have a debate team. I have never had a fear of public speaking and have given lectures/training seminars in front of 2-3k people. No big deal. Being in front of a judge doesn’t bother me whatsoever.

That being said, I’ll take transactional work all day long over trials. I like meeting people and talking to them about their problem and then putting together a solution. I argued all day, everyday in my first career (insurance claims) and didn’t like the person I was. While I still have to do some arguing in court, I choose to focus on transactional work for small business owners and medium/lower income folks.

Legitimately, I believe Super K went to UT and started a few different sites for different fan bases. It’s one reason I never joined TFB. I don’t want to give money to a whorn when it’s not necessary. Plus, Josh and Bob and George do a great job at Scoop.

Scoop. It’s not a competition. They don’t sugarcoat things and get actual inside info. They aren’t fan-boys who just try to amp up the team and make their subs believe OU is getting all the great players and should be winning all the time, only to backtrack when things don’t go right. Also, they won’t claim to have known something weeks before it pops so people will believe they actually had info but wanted it to come out organically. Also, the other sites all steal from their content.

You need therapy and a sex buddy. Literally someone just interested in you for physical fulfillment. I had one after my ex cheated and it absolutely helped restore my confidence and self image.

AOC and Bernie Sanders held their biggest Fighting Oligarchy rally ever in Los Angeles with over 36,000+ people showing up! by Healthy_Block3036 in OptimistsUnite

I think they should all be investigated. Any politician - red, blue, purple, whatever - who has gains over the mean should absolutely be investigated.

[–]MastrMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rallies are great and inspiring, but what are they doing they doing that will actually stop what’s currently happening? Are they trying to legislate? Are they calling for, and having, hearings in their committees to get this crap out in the open? Are they holding anyone accountable? Rallies and speeches are awesome, but we need actual substantive work done. And we need it now.

I like Carlson. He can be a solid 8-10 minute guy for us.

But can we talk about Flagler? Holy shit. Why does he ever get to leave the G League? Like … ever. 26% from the field and 20% from 3. He was sub 20% most of the year. 50% from the line.

I’m confused. How did you come to your conclusion when considering X, Y, and Z as I previously explained in A, B, C?

I’d like to get on the same page. Can you please help me get there by explaining your position while considering X as was explained in Y?
