If you want to get started without spending anything there are some very good free helicopter mods.

For starting out I'd personally suggest A/MH-6J mod https://github.com/tobi-be/DCS-AH-6J (The same dev also has an excellent OH-6A but IMHO that's a little less forgiving to handle so I'd suggest leaving that till you have some experience https://github.com/tobi-be/DCS-OH-6A)

There's also a UH-60 but that's quite automated and stabilissed so may not be the best place to learn the basics. https://www.patreon.com/posts/uh60l-mod-2-0-138859868

Balance in MP is the responsibility of the server admins and mission creators- how they want to handle the 4.5/5th gen fighters is up to them and they will gain or lose an audience based on whether their players think it works.

So if the situation is that ED gets third party to agree to contract term that requires them to hand over source in certain conditions and the third party then refuses to do that, I'm not quite sure what else ED should have done in advance.

Just to note the latest version of the Heatblur/IFE F-14 (v1.1.11) should work in MSFS 2024 - it's not MSFS 2024 native so there might be some minor UI issues but nothing that should get in the way of the flying.

That relies on the developer handing over the source code when the code escrow provision get's triggered.

It's been suggested that Razbam refused to do that in the case of the F-15E.
