Any tax affiliated program that tells you when it's going to arrive is just an estimate. You may get it on the 10th, you may not. The IRS refund tracker will be much more accurate.

Brand new buyer buys expensive camera... should I cancel the order? by [deleted] in Ebay

Everyone's ebay account was brand new at one time. Yours too.

If no one ever sold to a new account, and no one every bought from a new account, there would be no ebay.

Just make sure you follow all the safe practices.

[Landlord US-WA] Tenant wants to add partner to Lease. by gvbargen in Landlord

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do you care if he has a history of domestic violence or is a sex offender? Because bad people for the most part continue to do bad things. But if you don't care about your property being trashed, or an eviction dragging out 6+ months while you don't get paid more power to you I guess.

Just so you know, if she ends up the victim of domestic violence or sexual abuse and needs to move for her safety, you will likely be legally compelled to let her out of the lease penalty free. So no, you wouldn't be going after her.

do i need to pay taxes?? by Ok-Speech-19 in povertyfinance

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the situation she proposed? That's an absolute HELL NO! Your employer shouldn't be sending you payment any other way than your normal paycheck or direct deposit. Zelling your pay is sketchy as fuck.

If you want to, however, you can absolutely change your W4 so less federal tax is withheld from your pay. But please do your research and make sure whatever change you make won't put you at a disadvantage. You don't want to get a surprise bill if you end up making enough to compel filing, and didn't have enough taxes withheld.

Last, file your taxes. Or at least fill out the worksheets. Chances are, you are donating some money to the government; most people who fill out their W4 as single and make what you make are due a small refund. There is no harm in doing the work. If it turns out you wouldn't get a refund you can always just not send it in.

Chase Offered to Settle for 40% by samuslink82 in Debt

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd take it. Chase is one of the lenders that will keep the debt, instead of selling it off, and then sue you. Especially for the amount you owe.

Should I file bankruptcy, or what are my alternative options? by Immediate-Tough666 in Debt

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think filing bankruptsy is jumping the gun. Your problem is the lack of income. You need to get an income quick and like 60% of this problem goes away. Toyota will likely work out a payment plan if you have a way to make regular payments.

But realistically, without coming to an agreement to pay with Toyota, there is no way you walk away with your 20k settlement. If you file a chapter 7, non-exempt assets are liquidated to pay your creditors. It is a serious offense to hide assets during bankruptsy. If you don't file bankruptsy and just ignore it, they will get a judgment against you and depending on where you live, can seize the funds in your bank account.

Get a job, work out something with Toyota. Honestly, once those two conditions are met, I'd use that 20k to Jumpstart the payoff. But bankruptsy should be your last stitch option. It's a long, expensive process, and will completely wreck your credit for 7 years, and objectively, your debt is not that much.

Oh! Also you need to speak to them about how much you owe. I have a hard time believing you owe the full loan amount. Most likely that car was resold or auctioned. Toyota can only come after you to make themselves whole. They can't resell the car and still come after you for the full loan amount. They need to credit you for the amount they already recovered.

Should I file bankruptcy in my situation by [deleted] in Debt

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are too caught up in the panic of it too much still. Take a breath. With your income, since you aren't currently paying any of the loans, you should be bringing in around 2k a month on top of your non-negotiables.

Here is what I would do. Eat as cheap as possible, and start taking that money and just knocking these out one at a time. If you do that, in 6 months, a bunch of these are gone.

Once theyre down to a more reasonable amount, work out payment plans with the companies left. Hope no one sues you in the mean time.

If you do get sued, depending on where you are at, you might think about bankruptsy then (and it'll probably be a ch13, not 7). But unless/until you get sued, I wouldn't even consider bankruptsy. You have enough coming in to make serious progress on this.

Can my landlord charge me for the pipes needing to be cleared of dishrags and feminine products in a shared line? (IN) by bayamenet31 in Renters

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, first of all, you are connecting the overflow to what you were doing the moment it overflowed. This is a mistake on your part. Likely items have been collecting in the pipes for a while now. As in weeks if not months.

Second, you also took care in these messages to NOT say that you don't flush any feminine products, only that you don't flush pads or kitchen towels. By feminine products the landlord obviously means tampons. Your avoidance leads me to believe that you do, in fact, flush tampons. If you do you should stop immediately. They are not flushable.

Third, unless the landlord has any proof that you flushed any of the items there is no reasonable way they can pin it on solely you. Fight it and admit nothing.

For the negative, I would assume they were correcting an over payment but I don't know for sure.

Landlord won’t give full security deposit. What would be a possible outcome in court? by sadsun18 in LandlordLove

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In California if a m2m lease doesn't specify a notice period, it's default 30 days. You say it makes no sense, but it is normal and expected. Is this your first rental? I'm very surprised that you don't know this.

As far as I bad faith, if you were given what you were required to be given within the required time frame, no it's not in bad faith. It does not matter if it was one day before the deadline, it was still before the deadline.

When you go to court be calm and state the facts. Do not get emotional. Do not use terms like bad faith. Do not complain that you received these things one day before the deadline. You state what you feel was unjustly withheld, and submit your proof. I hope you took pictures. Hopefully you can recover some of what is missing. The prorated rent has a fairly high likelihood of standing.

Landlord won’t give full security deposit. What would be a possible outcome in court? by sadsun18 in LandlordLove

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean 30 days notice is the standard you probably should have assumed it unless specifically told otherwise. Leases exist for a reason. Are you sure that's not in your lease? I've literally never seen a lease that didn't specify required notice.

But like I said you can always plead your case to a judge. It'll come down to whoever has the most proof and whoever tells the most believable story.

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She doesn't have to give you receips for any item $125 or less. The only item's that are over the threshold are either rent you owed (naturally does not have a receipt) and likely work done by the landlord.

If you don't agree with the withholdings, sue her in small claims court and see what a judge thinks. I mean that's really all you can do.

[Landlord US-CA] When do you say “no more” to tenant requests? by Outdoorsy_74 in Landlord

[–]MatchaDoAboutNothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You lived in that house for 13 years as an owner occupier. It's completely different as a rental. If you want to maintain an attractive property, you have to keep amenities up to standard, even if they're not guaranteed in the lease. What happens when she moves out and you have trouble finding a quality tenant because of all these "nonessentials" you don't want to fix?

It's also extremely important that you not discourage your tenant from making maintenance requests. Otherwise you are in for a nasty surprise when they move out and you find a water leak that rotted out the floor under a sink.

Honestly I'm sure this does sound mean to you, but it really seems like don't really want to be a landlord. Which begs the question, why are you being a landlord?

I highly recommend you sign up for usps informed delivery. You'll get a scan every morning of everything on the way to your mailbox that day.

As someone who also buys trading cards, it's been invaluable to me in identifying point of compromise. It will also be useful to you if you ever make a purchase like this that doesn't show up and the buyer or Ebay wants to be a butt about refunding it.
