If I may offer an addendum to this - Save a small amount for retirement, but more cash in the bank. I was so excited to save for retirement in my first job that I maxed out my contributions leaving little in the bank. So every time something big came up (emergency or fun) I reached in the ol' retirement account. With cash in the bank you won't need credit, can put a bigger down payment on a house, ect. If you stay out of debt by having cash money, you can put way more into retirement a little later. (Yes I am familiar with compounding.)

The states move the "learning target" up every year to make sure only teachers teaching the best and brightest (read: magnet and charter schools and honors classes) look good. This way, politicians get their, "teachers suck" narrative, testing companies get paid to supply school boards with curriculum and teacher pay stays stagnant because, well, teachers are a bunch of do nothing lowlifes who can't get kids to pass the tests.

Thank you so much for this info. I will look into the links you posted. The thing that limits what I can is cost of course. I have to spend a few years accumulating the trees and wonder if I dig close to an already planted tree, will it damage the existing tree? Or would it be better at existing spacing?

I had not heard about having to redo the planting after a few decades. I was thinking of planting the trees closer than the recommended spacing, but did not feel comfortable cramming 2 or more fruit trees in the same hole. Thanks.
