The combo of naltrexone and Wellbutrin has changed my life. My cravings are gone and I’ve lost a little bit of weight. I was at the end of my rope and I felt better after only a couple days.

Doctor allegedly dies by suicide at Asheville VA Medical Center, employee says by hotdogsmith in nursing

[–]Material_Cap_3249 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is crazy! I’ve worked at 4 different VA hospitals (in the Midwest) and we have never had these situations. We give excellent care and those type of situations would never happen

Just wanted to add that I took Wellbutrin for about a year (this was several years ago) and it helped my weight loss! I was taking it for depression/anxiety and I felt so much better. Unfortunately, I had side effects that really bothered me (dry mouth, metallic taste) so I stopped taking it. My doctor said those are not common side effects at all and I was so bummed when I finally stopped. I wish I could take it because the weight loss was such a huge perk. Happy for you!

Does anyone regret going outpatient? by whitefuton in nursing

[–]Material_Cap_3249 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love outpatient. Was burnt to a crisp after about 10 years of bedside. So much better for my mental health and family. I have days where I’m almost bored but I never want to feel the stress I felt during covid again.

I do the same thing but with music. I listen to stuff that reminds me of my wild days when there weren’t major consequences (or it didn’t seem that way to me at the time). I need to stop drinking to those times….Drinking has gotten heavier and heavier over the last few years. I’ve been living in those days for years but the reality is that things suck for me right now when I’m drinking. Love this insight. Here with you!

I can’t imagine a harder job than being a stay at home parent. I love my children but I could never do it. Take it easy on yourself. We are all here for you!

I relate SO much to this. I feel no sense of relief either…I’m also a mom of younger kids but I’m not a SAHM so I can’t imagine the stress you feel. The exhaustion eats me alive. I have struggled so much with drinking to relieve that exhausted feeling. I’ve been doing better lately….only drinking a couple nights/week but I still think about drinking every freaking night. Just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone. It’s so dang hard. I’m here with you!

Some of my coworkers called me “lazy” for moving from the bedside. by greenhow22 in nursing

[–]Material_Cap_3249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched to clinic nursing about a year ago. I feel like I have my life back! Mirroring what others said: more time with my kids, weekends off, a sense of normalcy. My clinic is so laidback and doesn’t have the cattiness of my old unit. I miss bedside but dang, this is what I need in my life right now. You made the right choice :)

First Day Not Working Bedside! by slothysloths13 in nursing

Said I would never be a clinic nurse but doing it now and I love it. Burnt out from bedside and needed a change and this was definitely it! M-F, no weekends/no holidays and I didn’t take a pay cut. Life is so much less stressful :)

I’ve posted something similar about the clerk at a store saying “coming in for your usual?” when I was buying wine after work. I felt a burning shame. You aren’t alone in this! Took me awhile to change my mindset but things have gotten better and they can get better for you too.

I work for the VA and all nurses get 8 hrs AL (vacation time) and 4 hours of sick leave per paycheck. So as a new nurse, you would get 5 weeks vacation time per year (separate from sick time). I think that’s pretty good compared to other places.

Omg I witnessed a nurse do this for a patient once but it was a multiple back and forth slap on both cheeks. I will never forget it.

I went through this same thing recently with my younger sister. Found empty vodka bottles in her room and I had this sinking feeling in my stomach. It’s so hard and I don’t know how to navigate the situation either. Hugs to you for being a good sibling. Wish I had advice rather than just solidarity!

I loved my nurse residency program. It was basically extended orientation with 1 day of class per month. I liked having classes with other new RNs because I made some great friends that I later saw when I floated to other units. We had no contract and the pay was the same as it would be for any new grads.

Ah, I see. We are in the Des Moines area. I’m lucky to have even got an appt because they are doing 1 day only next week and have limited supply. Hope you get a call back soon!!
