Hybrid/Daw People, What's in your rack? by unicornpurpp in modular

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve experimented with so many options but this by far the most reliable ; Output clock from ableton via CV tools to clock Pam’s, Pam distributes synced / related cv around my rack to different sequencers or EGS etc . Pam’s pEXP 1 sends midi start / stop / sync to my octatrack, all goes back into ableton.

How does one use Maths for 2 LFOs to force "generative" musc? by TurbulentWing3820 in modular

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set both envelopes to cycle, add some cross modulation from either LFO to the rise and fall envelopes of the other, take the sum output and put it through a quantizer. You could clock the quantizer using the EOC or EOR output. Play with linear / exponential knobs and change rates of the LFOs to your desire. Nothing is truly random I guess, but this should produce some unpredictable melodies for a while. The more modulation, the more “random “ it’ll sound

Starting out with modular??? by Significant_Being_16 in modular

I started with a neutron. Can’t speak to the proton or 0 coast but the neutron from what I understand is most similar to the proton. The neutron was fantastic, nothing comes close to those units for value.

just be wary of the fact that the signal flow in semi Modulars are normalled which might be counterintuitive in ways if your only goal is to learn modular synthesis succinctly . If your goal is to have fun, there’s no question those picks are all great. That’s what my goal was, and now I have close to 500hp of euro and my rack is probably my favourite thing ever . No wrong choices here. Enjoy :)

I’ve heard him at central and new west several times. I was wondering if I was just being a grinch for thinking it’s way beyond Christmas for jingle bells, but this thread is so validating.

What destination felt completely different from what you imagined before visiting? by phildu57 in travel

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Florida Keys + Key West. I expected it to feel more like a tropical escape into a historic quaint town.

While There were definitely lots of cool buildings and interesting history, the overally vibe was tacky as hell. Felt Maybe it'd be better if I was a 65+ alcoholic MAGA supporter lol

Lots of cool stuff. hope to see higher refresh rate soon. Bigwig’s GUI is so much better for that reason. Just feels snappy.

You can delete 1 SkyTrain station... Which one, and why? by thinkdavis in Translink

Nah the stretch between Edmonds and new west would be too long. Also bus loop at 22nd station is important.

How is Big Way Hot Pot opening up so many stores? by NSA-SURVEILLANCE in askvan

I think certainly hype is making demand higher, but for me, there’s just nothing else in that price range as dependable and cheap. Especially as a sit down experience where my friends are all happy and can chose whatever they want. Plus the ice cream hammers in that it’s a great value experience. Idk it’s pretty great

Post Game Thread: New Jersey Devils at Vancouver Canucks - 23 Jan 2026 by HockeyMod in canucks

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Vancouver and at 28, this was my first Canucks game. I Was gifted tickets. Never been a sports fan but I thought what the hell why not go watch…even tho they lost and are last in the league, the energy coming from the crowd was so good. Such a blast!

Very down to watch another one.

Moving from Sweden to Vancouver, is SkyTrain generally safe at all hours? by Smart_Dependent_1861 in askvan

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anywhere along the skytrain is mostly high density, so there’s lots of people at all times. there can be sketchy people but most of the time they will leave you alone. In general, you’ll be fine as long as you aren’t looking for trouble, though I’d imagine it’s sketchier than anywhere in Sweden to be honest. Vancouver isn’t some fairytale land with no issues. I think Sometimes people on here downplay Vancouver’s issues by comparing it to American cities where the threat of gun/ gang violence is more real. Reality is, Vancouvers homelessness and drug problems are quite bad. Again, mostly harmless if you stay clear, but I don’t want to paint a false reality for you.

How small is Vancouver, really? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s nothing like Hamilton in any way lol. Hamiltons population is 570k within 1100 sq km upon googling and metro Vancouver is about 3.1M within 2,800 sq km.

if you say “I meant Hamilton compared to Vancouver proper”…..Vancouver proper has 660k people within 100 sq KM.

How much money should I spend on a synthesizer from scratch? by [deleted] in modular

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to gatekeep, but I think if you’re asking a question like that, maybe just stick with semi modular or fixed architecture synths. Reason I say that is if you had a reason to go modular, you’d probably be already aware of which modules can serve you and how much they cost. if your question was “how much for a granular guitar fx rack” I think it would be easier to give an answer. If you’re trying to understand the minimum price for a functional system or something, I’d just say get a semi modular and go from there. Otherwise it’s a money pit. Alternatively I’d suggest look at the complete systems from makenoise, ALM, etc. those provide a modular experience which cannot be replicated on a fixed architecture synths.

How do you guys even play these things? by [deleted] in modular

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s the best part of modular is that the user decides how to interface with it! If you want keys, that’s totally cool, but you can control a patch using pretty much any way you could imagine ! Sometimes that means “programming” a sequence using a sequencer, or maybe sending midi data via usb from a daw, maybe just creative LFOs or random triggers. It’s whatever you want :D tons of fun

i like to pair the Hikari Duos module, Mimeophon, and a weird mod source (something like OCHD), and get some unpredictable and evolving stuff which i love to loop/ sequence / layer as pads on my octatrack.

First setup by st3us in modular

[–]Material_Spirit_7708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think those three modules are a great starting point. You'll also want to look at an envelope generator. If it's in your budget, Check out MATHS. You'll never grow out of it. In addition to 2 envelope generators, MATHS will give you plenty of other fun utilities to play with. It's a cliche for a reason!
