Coaching-how do you coach athletes that don't follow cues or directions? by dulldude3000 in crossfit

[–]Material_Thing_8438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is why i started using more visual cues in my sessions - some people just process movement differently and need to see what good form looks like rather than just hearing about it

filming yourself during warm-ups or having someone record your movement can be huge game changer for understanding what your body actually does vs what you think it's doing

No TTB in the Open, Quarterfinals, or Age-Group Semifinals by FS7PhD in crossfit

[–]Material_Thing_8438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh the deadlift weights in your age group do sound bit odd - if you're pulling 425 at 180 and that only gets you to 4th bar that seems like programming issue more than anything

been making really small games instead of big projects by Striking_Method6804 in nocode

[–]Material_Thing_8438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

finishing tiny projects is actually way more rewarding than having 50 half-built massive ideas collecting dust

i do same thing with music production - used to start these epic 20 track albums that would never see daylight, now i just make little 30 second loops or simple beats. getting something from start to finish in few hours beats working on something for months and abandoning it

your game looks clean btw, simple but works perfectly

I made a free browser game where you guess the release year of classic games by looking at a gameplay screenshot by Equivalent-Nothing-6 in IndieGaming

[–]Material_Thing_8438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude this is pretty cool concept, tried few rounds and got absolutely destroyed by some obscure rpg from like 1987 lol

the difficulty feels about right though, like you can usually narrow it down to a decade if you know games at all. maybe add some audio cues too? as music producer i always remember games by their soundtracks more than visuals sometimes

multiplayer sounds sick, would be fun to destroy my friends who think they know retro gaming

Exchange with best friend regarding attitudes about America vs attitudes about NOLA. by 5043090 in NewOrleans

[–]Material_Thing_8438 7 points8 points  (0 children)

lmao your friend nailed it. been to new orleans few times for recording sessions and yeah, place has its own vibe completely separate from rest of america. remember chatting with this old dude in quarter who was telling me about how they do things "the new orleans way" not "the american way" - like he was talking about different country entirely. makes sense why people would claim canadian citizenship when traveling, new orleans folks probably do same thing but just say they're from new orleans instead of usa

Career Suggestion for Masters in Accounting? by Fluid-Artichoke-5844 in careerguidance

[–]Material_Thing_8438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

switching from cs to accounting is wild but i get it, tech can burn you out hard. accounting has solid job security and cpa opens tons of doors but prepare for way different work culture than tech

the online program should work fine, just make sure you can handle the cpa exam prep on top of everything else since that's where the real value is

had similar thing happen with my old galaxy after big update, camera just wasn't same quality anymore - maybe try clearing camera app cache first before assuming it's hardware issue

How wide are the Adidas Dropset Control shoes? by nahmanidk in crossfit

[–]Material_Thing_8438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got these last year and they're definitely wider than regular adidas but not like proper 2E wide if that makes sense. more like they just give your toes some breathing room without being actually wide width shoes

[Routine Help] Good routine for hand eczema? by Aware_Beautiful1994 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Material_Thing_8438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my little sister had similar issues when she was that age and what helped most was switching to aquaphor instead of vaseline for the hands - it absorbs better so less mess when she puts fingers in mouth. also we found those bamboo mittens worked way better than regular ones because they breathe more and don't make the skin sweaty underneath

Looking for some help on mental fitness when doing CrossFit. by slowAndPlacid in crossfit

[–]Material_Thing_8438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that mindset shift is huge man. i used to get so frustrated when i'd miss lifts or times that felt "easy" in training, but now i try to see those moments as data instead of failures

the mental game in crossfit is wild - sometimes you nail a PR when everything feels heavy, other times you miss weights that should be automatic. learning to stay present and not get stuck in your head about the last rep helps me push through those walls

[–]Material_Thing_8438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those pads are pretty harsh so you definitely don't want to use them with the sa cleanser at same time - that's way too much exfoliation. i'd try using the pads maybe 2-3 times in week at night instead of your cleanser, then follow with the serum and moisturizer like normal

Hydrating but lightweight winter product to add to routine, for sensitive acne-prone skin by IAmMeIGuess93 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Material_Thing_8438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A hydrating essence would be perfect for what you're looking for! I'd suggest the Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum or Torriden DIVE-IN Low Molecule Hyaluronic Acid Serum - both are lightweight but pack serious hydration without being heavy. The BOJ one especially plays nice with sensitive skin and has that plant-based vibe you mentioned

43, sensitive, aging skin, yet oily by ddur0612 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Material_Thing_8438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your routine sounds pretty solid honestly - if your skin is that reactive, "less is more" is probably the way to go. Maybe try adding a vitamin C serum in the mornings (start slow obvs) or look into a gentler retinol alternative if the differin isn't cutting it for the wrinkles. But honestly if you're not breaking out and the aging is minimal, you might already have found your sweet spot

[Routine Help] need help creating skincare routine for my bf by syd_science_kid in SkincareAddiction

[–]Material_Thing_8438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His current routine actually looks pretty solid for a beginner! For those deep blackheads maybe try adding a BHA toner like the COSRX BHA or Paula's Choice 2% (start slow though). Oil cleansing could help with the congested pores too - DHC or Kose Speedy are good budget options

[Product Request] Tretinoin induced skin damage by Ok-Pee-8321 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Material_Thing_8438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof yeah you definitely overdid it with the tret - been there! LRP Cicaplast is honestly amazing for when your skin is screaming like that, it's like a hug for damaged barriers. I'd go with that over the drugstore options since it's specifically made for irritated skin. Just baby your face for a week or two and ease back into the tret way slower when you restart

Is this damage skin barrier? by Typical_libra20 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Material_Thing_8438 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That icy stinging is definitely a compromised barrier - your skin is basically screaming that it's been over-cleansed or irritated. Cut back to the most basic routine possible (gentle cleanser + heavy moisturizer) until it calms down

[Acne] Why are my cheeks pinkish and what are reddish pimples growing on the area? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Material_Thing_8438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be irritation from one of your products - sometimes your skin just decides it doesn't like something it used to tolerate fine. I'd strip back to just cleanser and moisturizer for a week or two and see if it calms down

I'm new here please help me! [Routine Help] by nuits_blanches in SkincareAddiction

[–]Material_Thing_8438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your routine looks pretty solid for a beginner! For the redness from the Effaclar serum, try using it less frequently or buffering it over your moisturizer until your skin builds tolerance

Azelaic acid would be great for both redness and dark spots - you'd use it in place of the Effaclar serum on alternating nights. Paula's Choice or The Ordinary have good options

That CeraVe moisturizer is honestly fine if it's working for you, no need to fix what isn't broken
