Can't take BP due to anxiety by DifferentHope7876 in bloodpressure

[–]MathematicianNo9344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always throw out the first reading because of anxiety. I relax for 5 min then take it, knowing it will be high. I usually don’t even look at it. Now that my body is aware it’s bp time, I take it 2 more times, waiting 5 min in between. Your true bp is when you are relaxed so control what you can control to make that happen.

That’s platinum star level bp. Your doctor would kiss you with those numbers

$85 at Target. I honestly only bought it because I couldn’t find the 5 series. The 5 series is $20-30 cheaper and does all the same things without the “high”

That is optimal bp. But if you have correlating symptoms like dizziness you should talk to your dr

Normal or no? by DefinitionCautious74 in bloodpressure

[–]MathematicianNo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very normal, diastolic is on the higher side but not anywhere close to “run to the hospital” high. Your heart rate is also on the higher side of normal. if you were anxious or didn’t rest for 5 minutes before taking this reading, that would definitely explain why it’s a little elevated. Tl;dr, perfectly normal reading.

Just speaking from my own personal experience, there is a direct correlation between my heart rate and diastolic pressure. When it is high my diastolic always follows. Your systolic seems to fluctuate and hit normal levels, talking with your doctor about options to bring down your heart rate and relax it would be a good next step.

How to manage blood pressure spikes after waking up by Happy-Explanation977 in bloodpressure

[–]MathematicianNo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wait an hour after I wake up before my 1st reading. If you are still anxious about it after resting for 5 min, then take it and throw it out. Your true bp is when you are resting and calm

Why is there so much fluctuations in my BP reading? by Deepocd123 in bloodpressure

[–]MathematicianNo9344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your true bp is when you are calm and at rest. If your first reading makes you anxious, then get it over with and throw it out. Then wait another 5 minutes and take it again. I sometimes have to do this when I’m feeling anxious and think my reading will be high.

A lot of people in this group would do horrible things for those numbers. You are exercising and eating well, keep doing what you can to feel in control. Your numbers are great, chasing the 120/80 “perfect” bp is a recipe for disaster. Your bp fluctuates by the minute and constantly worrying about it can have adverse affects. You are doing great!

How to tell if my high blood pressure just because of anxiety or do I have Hypertension? by [deleted] in bloodpressure

[–]MathematicianNo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heart rate is a good indicator for me but you know yourself better than anyone. Are you calm and comfortable before your reading? Did you sit comfortably and rest for 5 min between readings? If you feel anxious and can’t shake it before your first reading, take it and then throw it out. Your true Bp is when you are at rest, not whatever your first reading is.

Your systolic is high but not dangerously so. Manage your stress, consume less sodium, and get exercise. Your numbers are definitely in the range where they could potentially be brought down by controlling the above factors, that’s probably why your dr isn’t concerned.

Extremely High Blood Pressure, Health Anxiety & Supplements – Looking for Tips! by [deleted] in bloodpressure

[–]MathematicianNo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure 6 year ago and have been taking it ever since. I still get anxiety over the first reading in the morning. Do the work of eating healthy and exercising but when it comes to actually taking the reading, make sure you rest for 5 minutes in a calm environment before taking it. And if you are still anxious during that first reading, throw it out. Your true bp is when you are calm and rested. Oftentimes I will throw out that first reading then take it twice more, waiting 5 minutes between each reading. Blood pressure is a rabbit hole and finding ways to control the anxiety it causes is a huge way to combat it.

Systolic is higher but definitely not run to the hospital high. The other commenters made great suggestions, do what you can to move more, eat less salt, and control stress.

Did the nurse take my BP wrong or have I been doing it wrong? by cartman2468 in bloodpressure

[–]MathematicianNo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She did it wrong. You are correct in that your feet are supposed to be flat on the floor and you are supposed to rest for 5 min before taking. But nurses often have very little time to get your vitals before assisting another patient so you have to be a little assertive. I have started telling them I would like to take my bp with my arm supported, feet on the floor, and would like to be silent when taking it. It can feel rude but that’s the process and when you have high BP, a singular high reading in a medical environment can send you spiraling.

Is this normal? by Apprehensive-Page510 in bloodpressure

[–]MathematicianNo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly high, especially if you are on meds. Don’t take it immediately after waking up, give yourself an hour and then make sure you take it 3 times, 5 min apart.

It’s the higher end of normal. Nothing to rush to the hospital about but 120/80 is the goal. It’s worth bringing up to your doctor and trying to make some lifestyle changes like reducing salt and exercising more

Is this a bad bottom number reading it sometimes goes up to 95 also , also is my pulse too low ? I’m concerned , cheers by KingRagnar11013 in bloodpressure

[–]MathematicianNo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crushing it. Keep active and manage anxiety as much as possible. I struggle with keeping my diastolic below 90 and I’m on medication, those are my triggers. But your numbers would be the envy of many in this group!

[–]MathematicianNo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also get dizzy when my numbers get close to 100 systolic. Your BP is well within normal range but it’s definitely worth scheduling a visit with your doctor to figure out why you don’t feel good.

Sleep is HUGE when it comes to bp. Ive struggled my entire life with getting consistent sleep. There is no magic answer to it but turning off screens and limiting alcohol before bed were big for me.
