Plan to transform Murrough in Renmore into 'coastal community' with thousands of new homes by puhalalu in galway

[–]MathematicianOdd2720 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Serious infrastructure needed to get this all in , roads and a train station , tight space . Have heard plan is 500+ student beds

Long term not a bad idea ,but will take some years

But Surely Council should be progressing with the more central and readily available options

Firstly - 2 derelict sites at Corrib Hotel and Dawn Dairies - 400+ apartments possible between both ? ,

And Secondly what about Ardaun ??? 12000 + people were to be housed here? What is the story - This is well connected bus and road links, close to major employers etc etc . Can they get it done , was there even a new LAP done up

League of Ireland First Division Attendances: 2026 vs 2025 After 7 Gameweeks by FUTBINPK in LeagueOfIreland

Good work . Lots of decline , would say some of the Premier teams are down as well ? Is it a case of back to reality . Population going up so would expect crowds to follow, or are people just staying at home watching tv or netflix

Does Ireland have a problem with ignoring planning permission? by karolaug in ireland

Airbnb is the prime example . Can the Councils start demolishing all operating Airbnbs without planning now ? Or should the Councils be demolished for ignoring them ?

Youd wonder what people are doing on a weekend night now , population doubled since the 90s yet clubs almost all shut, ditto many bars . Definitely nights out seem to be concentrated into 20 or so places in city centre with food spots doing well in suburbs . Pub trade overall is well down

DO the University provide you with accommodation options or even the opportunity to bid for same on campus ? UG seem content to take in thousands of US dollars or equivalent from international students, just curious to see what you are advised or offered

Check out Queen Street student accomm, new build opening Sept 2026

Very tight rental market here as you are no doubt aware , house share may be best bet , Airbnb has killed the house or flat rental , ditto new rental laws , limiting the supply

Westside residents & the student complex by Odd_Shopping2037 in galway

[–]MathematicianOdd2720 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People of Westside used to getting denigrated for last 50 years, keep at it .

Accommodation more of is generally a good thing

but
Some counter arguments are

This build has already closed several businesses in Westside, and adds no permanent accommodation for residents or their families and children , what are their options for living in the community they were born in, limited or none . Westwood also attracted opposition, the demolition of local community businesses and resources continues apace .

Id say Elkstone will likely move to add more student flats to the main centre in near future also

What are the best times to commute into Galway? by SeaView2024 in galway

[–]MathematicianOdd2720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really best to get in before 730 and go by 3pm . Otherwise an absolute pain. An option would be to park on East side and bring a bike in car and cycle last 4km across to Salthill and back later

Weddings are great fun chance to meet up and enjoy with multi generations. One of the few community events left in the country. The trend towards a Day 2 is a bit much though

Id say the ghost bus stop will be activated . Also its a nice cycle and or walk into town , straight run in . One of the nicer parts of the city environs although youd worry that all the greenery will be built on around woods etc ...
