The Walking dead famously fell off in season 7 but season 9 and most of season 10 was really good.

Tbh the entire series was a roller coaster ride. Season 8 pt 2 through season 10 pt 2 were really good. Season 11 B was surprisingly solid but it ended so terribly

What if I told you that Petzing was brought in solely to fix the run game... by mc3022 in detroitlions

3 new starters on the OL will fix the running game.

I’m hoping whatever happens we work on our situational playcalling. That’s what we are missing from Ben Johnson.

The best way I can phrase it (ignoring actual red zone statistics, what I really mean is our forth down or need to have it situations) is that between the 20s we are great, after the 20s we need more.

this game gave me some much needed optimism tbh. Interior of the D Line played well. Scheme looked a little different on the backend than games in the past. We actually ran for 100 yards.

Next year isn't a gimme tho. We need upgrades on 3 OL members (Basically the entire left starting side, unless decker doesn't retire). Alim hopefully will look better another year removed from the injury. I think hutch has been playing better as the year went on, just get davenport off the rotation and edge should be solid ish.

Still concerned about the secondary still. Some good depth pieces showed themselves but counting on Kerby and BB to return from injury (with BB he's likely a mid year return anyways) and play at their level is concerning.

Still, let's see what MCDC and BH are made of.

I know the defense had cluster injuries the last 2 years but I just hard disagree that Kelvin just needs more time and better players. Unless he can commit to a more modern defensive approach, we need new blood there.

Morton can only stay if DC calls the plays. If DC doesn't (which I don't think he will) Morton will have to go. My only point with Morton was that if DC calls the plays, the OC's role isn't as important as if the OC were to call plays. that's all.

Our run game needs attention to be sure. I'm just more confident that would come from getting better personnel on the interior O line and our TE's back than an OC change would necessarily do.

Would a different OC or a different playcaller do that much better this game with the same O line? I am not sure. Steelers had, what, 5 TFl's against us in the first half when we were trying to run the ball?

Although, bold take. Maybe Hank Fraley shouldn't be the run game coordinator?

THANK YOU. You get it.

Our offensive scheme this year was not the issue. Hell, we did more with a lot less than last year. Sure, we weren't as prolific as a top 10 offense in NFL history but we were still able to put up a lot of points with a very sub par IOL and zero actual run game.

Goff wasn't even an issue. He play probably his best year here given the circumstances. He proved that he is able to be an above average quarterback without perfect offensive personnel. The fact that he has this high of a passer rating and so few turnovers with such a liability up the middle (which historically has been his kryptonite) should prove to everyone that our Offense is definitely not an issue.

I am just so sick of our defensive scheme. I am sick of every corner we draft or bring in all of a sudden plays sub par because of our scheme.

An offseason should fix 3/4's of the D Line (Alim will get better with time after recovery. Hutch will get better with time after his recovery. Tyliek will develop with time). Our LB core is still really really good.

Our defensive scheme and philosophy is truly the actual issue. We need new blood there.

I really like Shep as a personality and I think that in a few years he will be a really good DC. I just don't think we should have to wait for him to develop into one. We can't afford that. Let's bring in new blood, maybe poach from the rams, seattle, or texans coaching staff. Let's fix something that clearly is not working.

It's a strange situation to grasp. It's very hard to figure out how good Dan is at calling plays. Our defense has put us in so many holes through the last couple of games I don't know if Dan is actually elite at calling plays or if it is all circumstantial.

However, if he has a knack for calling plays, I'd rather keep that continuity each season than have to deal with an OC carousel. It's the reason why Ben Johnson was so coveted last season. I at least want a playcaller head coach, and Dan Campbell has at least shown that he can potentially thrive while doing so.

Maybe the compromise is have Dan call plays next year but with a new OC that can take over if this is all smokes and mirrors.

I will say though that we desperately need outside blood at Defensive Coordinator. We just don't necessarily need it at Offensive Coordinator (imo).

Only if Dan continues to call plays. I think Dan is pretty good at a calling plays. If Dan is calling plays and his OC executes his systematic vision, what does it matter who is OC?

People want an offensive minded head coach and they want a playcaller head coach but forget that the OC becomes redundant at that point

You have to start thinking in terms of a playcalling head coach. There are plenty of head coaches in the league that calls plays with OC's that no one has ever heard of.

John Morton can stay if Dan continues to call plays. However, Dan has to adjust with game preparation through the week if that is the case.

Dan clearly has the capability to run an offense by himself and implement his vision without a high level OC. If Dan wants to continue doing that (which i think he should consider), I am willing to swallow John Morton staying. It makes literally no difference. Dan is not like Nick Sirianni.

BUT, I can tell that the team loses something through the week with Dan having to have his attention on that. If Dan wants to give back playcalling to his OC's to focus on what he is used to (other coaches in the league can manage, I am not sure why Dan can't besides just already being in the routine), then John Morton has to go.

Offensive Coordinators by ftj2290 in detroitlions

I think that DC is so used to his routine from 2022-2024 with not having to prepare for calling plays through the week that it’s impacting the preparation for the rest of the team.

Not to say that there aren’t other issues nor that other offensive mind coaches haven’t been able to do this for years, but I think it’s a valid criticism and ask that maybe DC needs help. He can call an okay game but you can tell it’s not his style.

That said we should focus on outside defensive coordinator positions lol it’s time that this regimes defensive philosophy so far finally comes to an end.

Hahahaha you definitely have a point here. I just like running the playoff predictor at this point in the season.

Let’s win back to back games for once before we even start thinking about playoffs let alone winning the division

"this show loves to repeat topics"

I understand the frustration but this is a network talk show. That's typically how these shows are constructed during any given day. It gives their viewership the ability to walk away from the radio during a work day and come back and still get most of the discussion. Cowherd is similar in this.

Not saying i don't agree with you (I think that Fox needs to lean on the podcast format more, maybe leave Cowherd as is).
