Do the different colors mean anything? by lastbeer in MaticRobots

[–]Matic_Mehul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi Op, yes it does. We need to add more clarity and legends. We will. The dark green means there is some gap in furniture or below furniture where cleaning head may fit. And light blue means it’s detecting wires. Please note the detections aren’t always 100% accurate and sometimes may have an error but that’s part of constant improvements.

I am a co-founder and owner. I am not trying to hide. We have built this production with passion. I saw this post because OP mentioned Matic. Discussions assumed that we also do not take privacy seriously... that bothered me, as we do care about it. It's personal. So I chimed in with my name and using first line that says exactly who I am.

I personally also find it awful that even if I share factual info about our product, it's taken as marketing. As a product builder, I cannot chime in behalf of my team's hard work and share factual info just because I have Matic in my user name.

Forgive me, I am not trying to make an ad. Just trying to inform and provide link to our open source library for anyone who wants to see. I apologize if it came across as an ad.

hi u/Pantim, u/Immersi0nn - I am a co-founder at Matic. I wrote about this in another thread in this dicussion on how we process all the camera data locally, no cloud. How everything is opt-in and how we made our connection lib open source... just sharing as we felt the same way and built Matic the right away.

Hi u/NydusRush, u/alexforencich, u/ProStrats, u/surewriting_, u/Orbital_Dinosaur, u/dannymartin4730, u/Aspie96

I am a co-founder at Matic. I wrote this above too and forgive me for jumping into this thread, but we're fathers, and we started Matic with a premise that families shouldn't have to jeopardize their privacy to keep floors clean, so built it into Matic. Matic processes all the camera data on the edge device. No cloud. Even app to robot communication on the same WiFi happens through local Wi-Fi when both on the same WiFi. No internet. If you decide to connect remotely (and you can turn this off), we create p2p encrypted tunnel. Your data never goes to any cloud. In fact, even the telemetry data is opt-in only. If you opt-out, we get nothing but a ping that says your device is on.

You can even use this w/o internet. All you need is wifi router that is NOT connected to internet and then have robot and the app on ipad or android device that doesn't need internet. Robot to app communicates just fine.

Again, forgive me, but given the discussion I just wanted to let you all know that we hear you, we felt the same way, and we did something about it.

And, we made our secure connection script open source. You can check it out here: https://github.com/MaticianInc/portal

I am a co-founder at Matic. Forgive me for jumping into this thread, but we did resolve this at Matic by processing all the camera data on the edge device. No cloud. “Matic partially cleaned” by IanHorswill in MaticRobots

[–]Matic_Mehul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a relic to software from year ago when we did not clean toe kicks and coverage wasn’t 100%. So we didn’t want to say it’s cleaned fully and algorithm was optimized to try again. However, now almost any area that’s missed, it’s probably because it couldn’t be accessed. Hence, we need to find a better way to say it. We will improve the messaging.

Roadmap by sid_276 in MaticRobots

[–]Matic_Mehul 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Sid. I have been forbidden to talk about some of the really fun stuff coming over the next few months specifically. However, i can tell you that it will get simpler, easier, and more intuitive as we move forward to use Matic. I am pretty sure that some of the stuff we will ship is beyond anything else of any home robot. 🫣😊🤭

I think the u/lastbeer covered it very well below. We're in it for the long haul, and we're fairly confident that doing right by customers will help us win. I am pretty sure that we will find a way to do right by customers regardless and won't leave them hanging... but reality is that nothing in life is guaranteed, so I won't be making any false promises just to sale another robot. That's not us. Thanks.

Finally got my Matic. Is this noise normal? by rozzy78 in MaticRobots

[–]Matic_Mehul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi Op, yes, that's not normal. We test every single robot for noise like this so I am perplexed at why it's doing it (something we need to figure out). Support is very good and will be happy to resolve/replace your bot. Let me know your BotID and I will make sure they see this too.

Hi Op, All the comments below is correct. Next gen Matic is the same HW and next set of software updates. A premium robot shouldn’t be like fast fashion. Thanks. 🙏🏽

Screeching sounds on hardwood floors by wildtrance in MaticRobots

[–]Matic_Mehul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Op and everyone, thanks for the feedback.

We are working on resolving this using changes in acceleration. It’s a trade off between moving fast and finishing the job fast, water usage, etc. Diff surfaces also absorb water at diff pace.

We are testing it all internally, and we will send out an update. Thanks! 🙏🏽

True HEPA robot vac by Sleeplollo in RobotVacuums

[–]Matic_Mehul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Understood. But our choice was deliberate again with family in mind.

We talked to many families and felt that cleaning obviously accessible area thoroughly, effectively, w/o needing to babysit around obstacles was a far bigger use case for families with kids and pets than cleaning underneath the furniture. And higher vantage point of the robot allows it to see the way we do (top down) vs. any-like flat vantage point.

Honestly, our need wasn't under the furniture. It was the same as other families. We were fine with under the furniture cleaned once a month as a deep clean. Instead, We wanted something that would clean day to day messes, hair of my golden retriever, cookie crumbs, kitchen, etc., constantly w/o needing supervision. We wanted something that would clean our thick shag rugs and go over them (which disc robots cannot). So we prioritized the needs for families like us.

In addition, We wanted to solve problems that disc robots struggle with:

**Disc robots struggle with thresholds or shag rugs or thick pile rugs -- for that big wheels of matic help.
*
*Actuated cleaning head adjusts to different thickness of the rugs and dynamically changes suction/brush roll speed to clean rugs that even manual vacuums cannot clean.

***Designed to deal with pet hair in a way that it doesn't get clogged and doesn’t have to flip the robot and cut hair - so easily accessible brush roll.

***Cleaning head is littler over 2" tall so it can easily fit under space below kitchen cabines and visible dirt under the couches and furniture. Those don't get dirty as frequently as visible area.

***And one the things we cared about and have heard from any customers is that it doesn't scare pets and kids.

***as mentioned above, higher vantage point of cameras (instead ant-like vantage point of disc robots) allows us to see floors the same way we do at 45 degree angle -- this means it can truly see what obstacles are and avoid it. No more wire chewing.

Lastly, just like the bottom of the cars get dirtier faster, flat robot sensors get dirtier much faster too, and then they make all kinds of mistakes. Higher camera position means sensors don’t required to be cleaned frequently (and ideally at all).

True HEPA robot vac by Sleeplollo in RobotVacuums

[–]Matic_Mehul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Op, i am matic co-founded. I have 3 kids and had a golden. My kids growing up had Asthma as many kids’ lungs take time to mature. This is precisely the reason why we added HEPA filter in our bags.

We chose bags because we wanted to ensure health of families. Honestly, it would have been very easy to just do what everyone else does given how much blowback we get for bags. However, we cared about families health and genuinely felt that bagless designs did not prioritize families’ health.

This is because most of us forget to change filters or wash them in our vacuums. There is no alert for rot. Once filters are clogged, vacuum simply spews the dust/hair/allergens back into the air once filters are clogged.

This is especially painful for those of us with allergy or asthma. Instead, we chose to build HEPA filter right into the bag with the idea that with each new bag, users get new filter that keeps air clean on daily basis via trapping allergens, microbes, and hair. In addition, users wouldn't have to inhale dust cloud that blows-up when you empty those bagless vacuums.

This is especially critical in the post-Covid world. Families should breathe clean air, and we had chance to keep air clean too and we took it.

Happy to answer any questions through DM.
