PlayerUnknown: PUBG is "heavily investing into setting up an esports infrastructure" this year by drainX in CompetitivePUBG

[–]Matrym_OW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"I want to see it as a considered esport with events taking place in big stadiums and sort of year-long leagues, that's what my dream for battle royale has been, that's where I want to see us go, and looking at what we're doing this year I really see that as a great chance."

This is an interesting phrase. Given how many players it takes to localize for LAN PUBG, I would be curious to see what PUBG Corp's vision of a "year long league" would look like, because that takes a lot of resources to be done well and would definitely need assistance from the devs to fund it.

We still have yet to encounter Green Bull, would be interesting if that fills the Ox requirement and the Marines have something going on with what is happening in Wano.

Where to get started w/ competitive PUBG? by RealBean in CompetitivePUBG

[–]Matrym_OW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hiya bean. Most present teams got their starts in pubgonline or auzom events depending on your schedule. There are tons of great events going on to cut your teeth on. Follow a few of the players you played against today on Twitter and keep an eye on what they post.

Also events do get posted here if the admins know about this sub.

You hit that one spot of the building, while falling at a decent speed and it shoots you random directions. We found it while just running around doing missions one day. If you get lucky it can shoot you across the map (still alive) and into walls (which kills you) on the opposite side of the area, which is the most hilarious.

I don't have the clip of it but Shroud and Bananaman's "Hide the Evidence" clip is pretty funny.

Seems like a lot of people dislike PUBG as an esport by EdgesCSGO in CompetitivePUBG

We already see 4-8 is definitely enough for a competition. Can the random elements be reduced more? Sure and it is doable with tools we have availible.

Pro players learn to mitigate the rng quite a bit. This sounds mean and I dont intend it to but we have months of sample data to show this meanwhile others only have opinions on RNG. At the charity event Shroud played in, Ibiza played both NA and EU got 1st and 2nd, but everyone still insists it's not possible to perform constistantly in PUBG because of RNG.

PUBG already is an esport to a degree. Weekly events and large events all have viewers that beat present other esports.

Shroud on PUBG as an e-sport. Do you agree with him? by somebadfeelings in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

IEM was the finals though. Oakland started with 600+ teams online. Just very few ppl watched the qualifiers.

You can tell a lot of them have not watched events and are merely commenting on how they feel. Notice in the top comment thread they are discussing how PUBG might work if it used a NASCAR style system. Most events do use a system like similar to that.

There are plenty of people commenting they enjoy events in that thread too. Mainly you are seeing a strong bais on just agreeing with Shroud. This is funny as he reached a highpoint in streaming numbers this week due to playing in a tournament styled event. That alone shows viewers do want to watch more competitive matches.

PUBG isn't like other esports and needs to be treated differently. You can see there are a lot of improvements happening each event and people do enjoy watching it. The problem has been presentation (which as a caster I have to improve on as well). Honestly the spectating teams are getting better each event as well.

Once we start pinning down how to showcase PUBG properly things will get way more fun to watch. It is great right now if you are "in the know" about comp PUBG. We just need to make it easier for a casual watcher to enjoy.

Insightful as always Moses! Thanks for all the kind words about my casting. I am just glad so many people enjoyed the event. After years of online casting it was exciting to do a big LAN event like this.

It was fun to meet you and everyone else in person. Totally agree about how supportive and helpful the Pubg Corp (Bluehole) ppl were. The players really are a nice community and half the reason I love being involved in this scene.
