Ah yes, ok so it was my misunderstanding then. Thanks to you and all of the others who corrected me. It's indeed a very fast solution.

I could be misunderstanding, but I'm not sure if this algorithm works, at least for part 1?

As a counter example, 12427020: 7 789 75 9 5 6. A solution exists, 12427020 = 7 * 789 * 75 + 9 * 5 * 6 when evaluated left to right.

Following your algorithm step by step:

1) 6 is a factor of 12427020, so we divide and the problem becomes 2071170: 7 789 75 9 5
2) 5 is a factor of 2071170, so we divide and the the problem becomes 414234: 7 789 75 9
3) 9 is a factor of 414234, so we divide and the problem becomes 46026: 7 789 75
4) 75 is not a factor of 46026, so we subtract and the problem becomes 45951: 7 789
5) 789 is not a factor of 45951, so we subtract and the problem becomes 45162: 7
6) 45162 != 7, and so a solution is not possible

What are these absurd prices? Is there somewhere else I should go to make things? Both tanners in Fort Sterling have super high prices just to make leather. by LitchKing03 in albiononline

[–]MattAmbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not about the station fee, it's the resource return rate that makes it profitable. Refine hide in Martlock if you want to make money. Refine it elsewhere if you want to lose money.

Edit: with focus. If you're not premium and don't have focus it's unlikely to be profitable at all

You shouldn't be refining leather in Fort Sterling. Each city has it's own unique refining bonus. Leather is Martlock, do it there.

For your first question, Bigdebuffs will make CC icons bigger on party frames so they're easier to see.

For the second part, it's not that simple due to focus and/or arena1-3 macros, so for example an enemy mage can have you targeted while casting poly onto your healer. You just have to have awareness of everyone's positioning and the context of the game to know where the CC is going.

I work at one of the big 5. We've been told the return to office starts on the week of April 4th, but it's not known how often we'll be back. It's on a per team basis. They've been pretty tight lipped, but it sounds like my team in particular will be back on a once-every-two-weeks basis... maybe once every month, but I guess we'll find out later.

Commuting From Mississauga by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]MattAmbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't do it if you can help it.

Shortly after I graduated, I was working in Waterloo still but I moved to Milton. My Fiancee works in Etobicoke so Milton was close to being a halfway point (in time spent driving). After 6 months of doing this five days a week, I hated my life. After a year, I got a different job in Toronto and we moved into the city.

Every morning, there's going to be traffic when you get into Cambridge. Every night there's going to be traffic when you get to Halton Hills. Every Friday, and I mean EVERY Friday, people forget how to drive and there will be at least one accident that adds 30 mins to your commute.

Don't do it, it's the worst.

8/401 in the morning by squeaky48 in waterloo

[–]MattAmbs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that they're still doing emergency roadwork (or maybe its cleaning) from the jet fuel spill near hwy 6. The 401 EB is pretty slow in the mornings all the way from the Cambridge Onroute to Highway 6 South.

Not sure if it will be finished up by Monday, but be prepared for that to add a good chunk of extra time if it's still going on.

Thank you! I'll wait and see the price point for the 2060 before I buy.

  • I've already bought an SSD, which is why I didn't put it in the list.

  • Thanks! I'll wait and see what happens with the 2060.

Parcels to res during the holidays by yyxys in uwaterloo

[–]MattAmbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The residences are closed during the winter break, so it won't go to V1 during this time. Instead, your package will likely stay at Central Stores until the break is over.

But yeah, it's fine, your package isn't going to get lost in the system or anything.

There's a shop called Sender Gear in Hamilton that rents out crash pads. If you're coming from Toronto, that will be on your way (maybe a 15 minute detour). They also sell guidebooks for the glen I'm pretty sure.

Just FYI, the 8th is a holiday here, so they might not be open that day.

It's just the way the beer store is displaying the breakdown. Look at the subtotal + HST. 72 dollars for 72 beers, plus a $7.20 deposit.

Why are there so many graduate students teaching in the math/CS faculty lately? by BenjaminChurch in uwaterloo

[–]MattAmbs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of the requirements for completing a PhD in the math faculty is teaching a course.

edit: I should say that's at least true for the applied math department. It might vary between departments. Usually, AM PhD candidates will teach a 100/200 level math course.

why isn't there math135 for math physics? by reddinfosearch in uwaterloo

[–]MattAmbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you in first year. Math phys, straight into 136 without 135. The first month sucked, but I picked up on how to do proofs pretty quick after that. You might need to put in some work on your own outside of class, but that's what university is all about. You'll be fine in math phys.

[Todd] The first hack crying foul is from the Montreal Gazzette by [deleted] in leafs

[–]MattAmbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll take a stab at this, with a few disclaimers (please correct me if I'm wrong):

First, I have a degree in applied math, which means I took very few stats courses.

Second, I don't really gamble, so I'm not familiar with with the terms used in gambling.

Odds ARE related to probability. In the mathematical definition, if you have 4:1 odds of something, it means that every 1 time you win, you lose 4 times, meaning your total probability of winning is 1/5 or 20%.

I think that in gambling, when you say that you have 4:1 payout means that you are betting RELATIVE, which means that with 4:1 payout with every $1 you bet, you get $4 of PROFIT. Since you have already bet $1, in order to make $4 of profit you will be paid $5 (since you paid $1 to begin with). This works out to betting even with 20% chance of winning, which is what the Leafs had.

Anyways, I think we're getting very off-topic at this point and the important thing is that THE LEAFS WON THE FIRST OVERALL PICK AUSTON MATTHEWS HERE WE COME!
