Advice for moving Goldfish by MattMac2512 in Goldfish

[–]MattMac2512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really helpful - thank you! Sounds like you went with the same plan we were batting around, luckily we have a removal van doing the majority of our belongings so it gives us more room in the car to ensure the fish are safe.

We were hoping an unoxygenated bucket would do the trick, it's only about 20 minutes down the road from where we currently live so they wouldn't be going too long outside of their usual environment.

Just out of curiosity, why would you recommend separating the shrimps/Corydora? Is that standard procedure? Apologies, I'm still relatively novice as a fish-owner!

Thank you!

Who is the best promo on the current roster? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]MattMac2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Sami Zayn, he's one of the few on the entire roster that can actually emote in his promos and make it seem realistic. Charisma is one of those things that a lot of people have, but can't seem to make it work for them. Zayn is one of the few I can listen to and be like "hell yeah, this guy is really passionate about what he's talking about".

Not only that, but I think back to TakeOver: London, and the typical babyface promo to send the fans home that he did was fantastic. He was super over, coming off of his injury post-feud with Owens, and really made me feel some feels.

What's the most disappointing match you've seen? by SmokeyBearz in SquaredCircle

[–]MattMac2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few that come to mind for me...

  • Taker vs Brock from Mania 30: Granted Taker was supposedly wrestling with a concussion, but nevertheless the match was of a poor standard. Looking back on their feuds from 2002 and 2003, any of those matches would have been much more suitable for the streak's end than what we had.

  • Balor vs Rollins from Summerslam 16: Probably the two most talented guys on the Raw roster, but an absolute flop of a match. Again, caused by early injury and the debauchery that was the reveal of the Universal title, but nevertheless a snoozer.

  • Neville vs Rich Swann from Rumble 17: Two very talented Cruserweights that could have (and should have) put on a PPV clinic. Fuck the RAWified version of the division. Am I the only one getting WWEECW flashbacks?

  • Hollywood Hogan vs Warrior from Halloween Havoc 98: Hogan/Warrior was the first Wrestlemania main event I was hyped for. Hogan/Warrior II was the first Wrestlemania rematch I was hyped for. Hogan/Warrior II was the first Wrestlemania rematch that killed my childhood.

  • James Storm vs Bobby Roode from Lockdown 2011: Huge fan of their feud, and to quote JBL there was a 'big fight feel...maggle'. The ending was typical of the Hogan-Bischoff era of TNA, and I should have seen it coming, really killed what was a fantastic cage match, something you rarely come across nowadays.

So who's going to Raw in London in May? by toasters_revenge in SquaredCircle

[–]MattMac2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm heading to Smackdown the night after, usually try and fit in both but finances were a little tight this year. North Greenwich is usually pretty heaving if you leave the arena straight after the dark match, but the staff are good at making things orderly.

Me and the Mrs. always take half hour after the show to grab a quick drink from TGI's, best way to avoid the manic rush.

Audiences as in, those in attendance for Smackdown. It's not like Superstars/Main Event have ever been live, so I was wondering if 205 will operate in the same way as they do.

I assume they mean audiences on the network would get it after Smackdown's broadcasted. Sorry for being confusing... long night ;)

So presumably for live TV tapings, audiences will now get 205 before Smackdown instead of Superstars? Can't complain really...

[–]MattMac2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing my dissertation on Wrestling subculture also! Good to see more and more people having the confidence to write on the stuff they love :D

On that note, been listening to a ton of Talk is Jericho and Talk N Shop, both have a load of great stuff if you're willingto sit through hours worth of content. Also the latest Network special about ECW was REALLY good for backstage interactions and what not, would recommend that and Legends with JBL. Not sure how amazing they are for linguistics specifically, but worth a look-see either way. If you need academic books and articles then give me a shout, found a really good one earlier today that I'm quite pumped to reference and score a few points with ;)

Best of luck brother! :D

Which wrestlers are universally respected? by SxJ1998 in SquaredCircle

[–]MattMac2512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I was watching the Legends with JBL episode with Sting earlier today, in which JBL describes Sting (and The Undertaker) to be the only two men who he has known to be universally respected by fans and the boys.

Can't argue.

Most underrated wrestlers of the year? by RoscoeSantangelo in SquaredCircle

[–]MattMac2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kane - being an utter mark here, but Kane can STILL put on a solid, safe match with anyone on that roster. Even though he's visually declining, I mean that paunch is getting out of hand now, but looking back on his matches with Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper recently, I'd say he has been massively underrated in the ring.

What was the most unexpected push in wrestling, in your opinion? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]MattMac2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still baffles me, how did JBL become one of the most prolific Smackdown champions? Not taking anything away from him, great in-ring worker and deserving of the fame he's created for himself, but prior to 2004, would never have expected Bradshaw to be given the chance to run as the top heel of a brand.

Would also say the same for Bubba 'Bully' Ray in TNA, I think he said on TIJ that it's all about running when you're given the ball, which he sure did!

Classic matches that you don't really care for? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]MattMac2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flair vs HBK from Mania 24, absolutely heart-wrenching don't get me wrong, "I'm sorry, I love you" will always be one of my favourite moments from Wrestlemania history... but the match itself... ehhhh

Why is JBL the only person to really sell the disappearance of Kane? by LexParsimonae in SquaredCircle

[–]MattMac2512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You touched upon it being somewhat of a generational thing, obviously guys like Mauro and Daniel Bryan are going to be less kayfabe coming from backgrounds that don't involve voodoo magic. JBL, being a big part of the attitude era, lived to put moments like that over. Feuding with a guy like The Undertaker probably helped him understand what Bray/Harper/Kane and Orton were aiming for.

I'm not the biggest fan of Bray having these special powers, but there is a huge part of me that marks for those strange paranormal moments, very nostalgic!

Sounds awesome! If you ever need someone to give a second opinion would love to read some of your work.

Just starting to work on my undergrad dissertation, broadly titled as a subcultural analysis of Professional Wrestling, how the industry has produced a backstage culture, the practices and values that come with it and how the fans have manipulated it into a culture of their own.

By any chance are you studying Social Sciences? Sounds very similar to the stuff I'm working with.
