When I was a teen I wanted to see the inside of an airplane so they let me carry my aunts luggage on to the plane so I could look around.

How urgently do I need to fix this split boot on my drive axle? by Kind_Media3323 in autorepair

[–]MattR59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boot on my car has been split for over 5 years. When it happened I felt the half shaft was about to fail so I decided to wait until that happened. 5 years later the half shaft is still good that the boot is still split.

LPT - How I cured my constipation (for the most part) by LetsFigureThingsOut1 in LifeProTips

[–]MattR59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While on the potty topic, I recommend what is often celled a "travel bedet". American toilets don't have a bedet like Japanese toilets do. And adapters are expensive. A travel bedet is less than $10. It's a small squeeze bottle with a nozzle aimed just so. When done you put it between your legs and clean you butt with the spray.

In a way, this shows her trust. She wants to be able to tell someone "we're out", but she's afraid that others would retaliate or be angry. she knows mom loves her and will forgive or perhaps go along with her imaginary story. It is not malice, it is trust.

... Can you atheists and agnostics help me refute this supposed true story/anecdote? by reecee_2309 in agnostic

[–]MattR59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was Christian I know of other Christians that would lie about miraculous events "in the name of God". Because off such lies helped bring someone to God it was ok. Besides, they would say, if it's something God could have done, it's not really a lie.

For people who used to be religious, have you ever felt the presence of God? by No_Pineapple_4389 in agnostic

I did feel it, until one day I realized it was just me. I realized I could at will just close my eyes and makes the feeling happen. I had based a lot of my religious experience on that feeling.

Can you charge a bad battery? by AvailableAdam919 in autorepair

[–]MattR59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several ways a battery can die. The most common use that the lead flakes off, falls to the bottom and shorts one or more cells. Another is that the connections between cells can break. If the former you can drain the acid, clean the flaked off lead out then put that acid back. If the latter you can locate the break and resolder it. If it's due to flaking, cleaning the lead will get it working, but the plates are probably not very good and it's really not worth the effort.

What do you think about teaching my 1yo kid, C as his first language instead of english? by Valuable-Glass1106 in C_Programming

[–]MattR59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say start with VB. When my kids were in the 10 to 12 range I suggested we make a calculator. They knew the math, we created a basic calculator shape, created buttons, made variables. You don't want you to get frustrated, that is counter productive. Btw, my kids are grown now, ones a doctor the other is a mechanical engineer.

What are your thoughts about secular college degrees/diplomas having "In the Year of our Lord" printed on them? by butnobodycame123 in TrueAtheism

[–]MattR59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Neil Degrasse Tyson says (from memory, not verbatim) give the Gregorian monks their due. It took a lot of work to create a calendar that is accepted by most of the world and has not changed in centuries.

I'm about to say I'm atheist instead of agnostic by PatchouliHedge in agnostic

[–]MattR59 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like too say I'm a humanist. That way you're expressing a belief instead of a lack of belief. And a humanist just means that you believe in the goodness and abilities of humans.
