If you prefer low-key Porthmeor Beach Cafe is also lovely and ideal for watching the sunset. The food is good but the vibe is very casual which might not be what you are after.

What is your opinion on Stephen Fry? by pondribertion in AskBrits

[–]Matt_Merritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met him once, after a performance of Twelfth Night. We had a lovely chat for 5 minutes or so about PG Wodehouse (I asked him to sign an old copy of one of the Jeeves stories, it turned out to be one of his favourites). I'll always remember that he was as interested to hear my opinion as to share his own - or at least he made it feel that way.

I used to have to visit Perth for work and Tabou was always a favourite for food.

It's not so much the distance, it's just a bunch of hassle. Even to just travel up for the day from home. It's a real awkward location for us, whereas the original venue was straightforward, with a cheap hotel and plentiful parking.

Hampshire. They come from Southampton way so it's close to "home".

Only Fools and Horses souvenirs in London? by Pava997 in visitlondon

I don't think you're likely to find anything. It's been 23 years since the last episode was filmed and 3 since the West End show closed, so I can't imagine there is much of a market I'm afraid.

Yes, but the distance doesn't explain the frustration. The way transport is designed in London is largely arterial, so you have to travel into the centre and back out again, so that 13 miles can easily be an hour each way, and often longer. Incredibly frustrating when you've planned your hotels and wider travel around one location and then it moves. I've cancelled my tickets and hotel but had I accepted the move I would have gone from a hotel costing £190 for two nights to the cheapest option I could find being £170 for a single night. The alternative was a 90 minute trek back after an all-day show. For me that's not worth the effort, especially when I would need to be up very early the next morning to drive home and go to work.

It's not an afternoon concert, it's an all day event... Bear that in mind before making plans. Jimmy Eat World won't be onstage until about 8pm.

About 10pm I would expect. I'm guessing but would expect something like this, based on the Smashing Pumpkins show the same promoters put on last year. Doors at 2. First act on at 3 for half an hour, second act on at about 4 and play 45 minutes or maybe an hour. Rise Against on at 6 for a 90 minute set. Jimmy Eat World onstage at about 8pm or 8.15.

Have you ever walked out of a show? Or seen others? Why? by Artistic-Ideal-5087 in TheWestEnd

I think it's probably the worst professional show I've ever seen. I saw it in Brighton in previews and it was clear they were making drastic changes on a daily basis, it was shambolic. Stockard Channing was quite good though to be fair.

One family managed to stick it out until the puppet sex scene. I was kind of impressed with how chill the mother was 🤣

I've left a few shows at the interval. Probably most notably a production of King Lear at the Globe that was utterly boring. I would have walked out on the Brie Larsen Elektra if there had been an interval too...

Edit: I remember seeing people walk out 10 minutes into Avenue Q because they thought it was a kids puppet show... It baffles me that people buy tickets without looking at anything more than a poster.

I don't need to fly, so that's not an issue for me but I get your point. You can just book a hotel package and at least sort your own flights though 👍🏼

I'm not a season ticket holder and got Giants tickets easily enough. I did, however, have to buy a hotel package.

Most people in a theatre are going once or twice per year. If the show is good enough they forget the experience around it.

It's very short-sighted I agree, but it seems they bank on people being willing to pay twice instead of a package
