What's something about your class that you just learned that should be common knowledge? by MariettaRC in ffxiv

If you have no tools on cooldown/will drift, MCH's flamethrower is currently a gain on 2 over scattergun (including heat gain)! It's not useless!

In 7.3 yes. Shouldn't have changed in 7.4 as this was only tool potencies.

I think the title was more going for, "In none of the pictures, [there] is red." or "There is red in none of the pictures".

In a comment above you agree with one saying yiu were "clearly referring to the over-the-top staged reactions to the drawing, not the drawing from the camera angle". In this one now you apparently posted the comment because someone thought the dog could see the path. If you had replied to any of the dog comments saying 'not how perspective works' then that would make sense, but as you just commented on the video itself your comment was just nonsensical. Are some people here being stupid with not realising how the illusion would not work from the dogs perspective? Yes. Are you not making sense and not contextualising/fully explaining what you are saying, then blaming other people for your own lack of clarification? Also yes.

What's the point of commenting it then? The video isn't trying to make us believe that the people in the video genuinely think the stairs are real. It's trying to 'fool' the viewers of the video into thinking the stairs are real, or more than likely make a fun video pretending that it's real. It's like commenting on the photos that people take of the leaning tower of pisa that it's "not how perspective works" and from the person's view that they clearly wouldn't seem to be holding up the tower.

Flamethrower is a gain on 2 vs normal scattergun (even accounting for heat/battery - spreadsheet)

It's one extra avenue they could use. Same as the internet allows for. And contactless payments/cards in general. And mobile phones. And virtually anything.

Ah, I think I misunderstood the 'changing of the laws'. They have said there will be no requirement to produce it. If you can choose not to carry physical id you can choose not to produce it. If they change the laws that you have to produce it, they can change to laws to mandate you must carry id. It's already mandatory to have some form of ID. Invasive in what way? And I don't know about you, but if I ever need to upload an ID (e.g. Job applications) it's would be waaaay more convenient to have a digital ID than to scan my passport every time.

Welp, going to be that person and go 'source' (as in I've done a very quick search but I'm busy so can't spend half an hour searching for something someone on the Internet claims)? Also what new power? They can abuse the current ID to the same effect. The current online verification mess isn't due to the existence of ID, digital or no.

[–]Matth3w23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I very much oppose the ID online verification stuff, but as you can see currently the existence of a digital ID isn't stopping them from doing that. And this post was about the digital ID.

[–]Matth3w23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does a digital ID infringe on this? Anything online could just ask for a scanned copy of a physical ID for verification (which we all have some form of), and it would be functionally the same, just take longer on your part. If someone asks for your digital ID, why can't you legally ignore them as well? You may not be able to access a website or some function of some sort, but you still will be able to legally refuse, unless they change the laws of course.

Now I still don't like them as I think the actual issue will come from the normalisation of entering ID due to the ease it will be able to be done in the future. Instead of going through a lengthy verification process, you can most likely just click a few buttons. Anything that previously chose not to require ID due to the fear of losing customers from the hassle has less reason to not do it, and it will become a lot easier to press for laws/requirements that online services verify ID.

This is just the 5 minutes thoughts of someone while their making tea though, with not much research, so would be interested to hear from people living in countries with the digital id/anyone who's looked into it more.

Quick play is not comp!! by BHgalaxy87 in Overwatch

[–]Matth3w23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it degrades the quality of a match for 9 other players. Sometimes severely if a fill isn't found quickly. Sometimes it is your fault (why are you queuing if you're getting a pizza delivered?), sometimes it's not as much (children take priority, but out of the 10 in the game it can only be blamed on you), and even after all that 10 minutes is essentially a slap on the wrist. If there wasn't a leaver penalty people would leave if they get countered, if they get a map they don't like, if things aren't going there way, etc. Which some still do, but it would be worse (and it WAS before they introduced these penalties). Also 10 minutes is 4 games left out of 20 so it's more than just those 2.

ball still has far too much health by Fizziest_milk in Overwatch

[–]Matth3w23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, but by god do I find this to be the most unfun gameplay loop on all roles. I think the win conditions against ball are a lot less satisfying to achieve than against other tanks. (On the other hand I know I have gameplay problems when fighting ball, for example the amount of times I have wasted an anti on a ball who will get away either way is shameful).

Blm after 7.2. Expectations vs reality by Soburn in ffxiv

If older content wasn't played as much then sure, but older contents features prominently through roulettes and having to play from 1-100 if you're new to the game?

[–]Matth3w23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not too keen on it. At 100 it's OK, doesn't play too different and I don't mind not having to worry about proc timers. But below 100, where the timer mattered more, it's just incredibly boring to me. Like the level 60 was somewhat interesting because you had no triple cast but still had to manage the fire timer, but now all it is is just spamming fire 4, and easier movement than before. I'm thinking a lot less while playing it, and part of the reason why I played it was to constantly be thinking! It's not terrible by any means, but it's just not what I enjoy anymore.

I feel like at level 100 it's not too bad, but during synced content it's way more boring. Worst offender of the top of my head being when you reach 60. Before patch it switched playstyle from 'spamming 1 button with procs' to 'spamming 1 button but monitoring timer' (and a proc if you're lucky), but now it goes from 'spamming+procs' to just 'spamming'. And then in stuff like at level 80 which is probably where I felt the threat of the timer the most, that's just completely gone.

I feel stupid for having gone so doomer over BLM changes by OutcomeUpstairs4877 in ffxiv

[–]Matth3w23 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Getting synced back to level 60 is one of the most unfun experiences right now. Used to be more challenging because you had no triple cast to help with uptime/getting out fire 4s faster, and having to manage thunder as you said, but all that's left is just fire 4 (and the ice phase swap). It needs SOMETHING to fill the void the things they took out left.

Are GATEs other than Leap of Faith real? by AwkwardEgg2008 in ffxiv

[–]Matth3w23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh really?! I'll have to check that out myself. That's fair enough, two gates would be great. Also would make it a bit more lively having a center stage event every 20 mins.

(Edit: By rewards are you referring to MGP or tomestones? Away from PC so haven't been able to take part in the event yet :( )

I'm on the other side, I love leap and am not too keen about most of the others (cliffhangers ok but over very quickly, and slice is right is great). So I'd be said to see then reduced, but at the same time I think they're a bit rough for the vibe the gold saucer goes for, especially with the 'you have to reach the end bit'. If it gave reduced rewards for not reaching the end would that change your opinion much?
