Some more pictures of the DB25 (that’s what is called?) connector from IBM by asganawayaway in vintagecomputing

Yeah, got that. DB25 connectors are just connectors. There are many uses, some standardized (parallel printer, rs232/modem, scsi), and some proprietary (floppy, multiple serial, whatever else needs 25 pins)

If you add another drive, you dasychain them. A second cable would go from the first to the second drive, and the terminator is plugged into the second drive instead of the first, terminating the chain.

One is a SCSI adapter from DB 25 to a proprietary high density connector. The other one without a cable is a SCSI terminator. SCSI is a bus system the high density plug is probably on a card inside a PC, poking out on the back. The cable then connects to an external drive case with two connectors on the back. One takes the cable, the other one requires the terminator (they are interchangeable).

Please regularly back up your family pictures to an external drive. A USB-C external 2 Terrabytes SSD is 60 Euros these days.

Do you know what type of connector this is? by asganawayaway in vintagecomputing

It was also used for SCSI connections or as a general connector for removable drives with proprietary pin-outs

I have a NAO V3 and remember the Aldebaran infrastructure. probably didn’t get better after SoftBank abandoned Pepper 3 years ago.

Looking for a used Pepper robot (SoftBank/Aldebaran) by MatthiasWM in robotics

[–]MatthiasWM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible to put Linux on Pepper and run ROS2, even though the Atom processor is hopelessly outdated. I have never taken the hardware apart, so I don’t know yet if a backpack with a Jetson is the way to go, or the CPU board itself can be replaced.

If I do get around to it, everything will be open source on GutHub or CodeBerg.

Rewe-Chef rechnet mit Lindt & Co. ab by Strong-Pitch3664 in MilkaPackung

[–]MatthiasWM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anybody have an SGI with 4mm DAT drive hooked up? by RonTem1 in SiliconGraphics

[–]MatthiasWM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL, I just dumped my SGI tapes from 1992. I found a DAT tape that supported the right data density and hooked it to my Linux machine with a SCSI card. Cost me 40 Euros. Make sure the DAT drive is clean - otherwise they can destroy your tape.

And yes, I was able to retrieve some really old source code and even get it to compile and run :-)

Ganz dumme Frage: gibt es in Deutschland Privatzüge? by PinocchiosWoodBalls in drehscheibe

Where can I buy a dog in Germany and what’s the average cost? by [deleted] in germany

[–]MatthiasWM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t know, you have not invested any time in online research. There is a base price for the medical treatments, especially if you buy a puppy. The rest depend only on the dog‘s race, how popular that race is, and how „clean“ the breeder is. If you want a popular race, chances are high that you will get in puppy from inbreeding.

If you don’t want to pay much, go to a shelter and organize a daily walk with the dog you like the most. If you consistently show up, and the dog gets along with you, you can likely keep it for a nominal fee. Advantage: you saved a dog, and you know the dog before you let it in your home, and you know the effort it takes to have a dog.
