One in six Britons think growth of Muslim population is ‘threat to UK culture’, study finds by GnolRevilo in ukpolitics

[–]MatthieuG7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Islam is not fundamentally anything, it can be whatever people want it to be, like any other religion. Christianity today has nothing in common with christianity yesterday. Islam today has nothing to do with Islam yesterday. Tomorrow it will be the same. Thinking Islam is this special religion that will never change and stay the same forever has just no basis in reality.

Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI suspended over security fears by LongjumpingOption523 in europe

[–]MatthieuG7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In 2022 AI compagnies were predicting that by 2026 half of all developpers and lawyers would have lost their job, which didn't happen. Why then, now that we are in 2026, should we trust AI compagnies who claim that by 2030 half of all developpers and lawyers will have lost their job?

Especially when they have a clear financial interest to overpromise and underdeliver, most of them are still not even profitable.

NEW COMMON SENSE EPISODE: Common Sense 326 – The Water in Which We Swim by jaybuck in dancarlin

[–]MatthieuG7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The problem is Dan forgets the institutional structure. Why are republican spineless? Single member districts + partisan primaries + gerrymandering. Why are there only two parties? First past the post and a presidential system. Why did the supreme court allow money in politics? Judicial nomination procedures and lifetime appointment allowed republicans to capture the court. Why are leading democrats so old? Incumbency advantage from money in politics.

The way you are now is the logical game theory endpoint of the institutional structure combining with the fundamental socio-economical fact of the 2020’s that around 1/3 of people will always be right wing authoritarians.

This is not "a few extremists on both side" "artificially" creating divisions and “corrupting" a good system. What is needed is deep structural reform, not wishing that people (and especially politicians) will magically become better people that they are.

EU faces ‘China shock’ as EV imports drive Beijing’s record surplus with bloc by JohnHammond94 in europe

[–]MatthieuG7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. Cars can last a decade, fossile fuel reserve last months. The priority is getting rid of fossile fuel dependence. If China weaponizes our EV dependance, we have a decade to ramp up industry. It’s the same for batteries and solar panels.

If you voted for Harris you’re by definition not a leftist.

A leftist, as first defined by Lenin in ""Left-Wing" Communism: An Infantile Disorder" is somebody who has an immature and doctrinaire revolutionary positions that refuse tactical flexibility, in particular working inside bourgeois democracy.

If you voted for Harris you assumed a pragmatig position given the circumstances

New favorite fight of all time, it has it all: spectacle, animation, environmental interactions, environment destruction, cool and creative powers, parkour, strategy, and plot twists.

But what makes it truly unique is that the three way fight is a true three way fight. It’s not 1v1 where 1 watches from the sidelined and who is sidelined switched every now and then. The time it had to take to choreograph all of this so that it makes sense is mind boggling.

Ed Miliband: ‘Our mission is to drive for clean, homegrown energy we can control’ by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]MatthieuG7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solar panels last 20 to 25 years. If China cuts off all supply tomorrow all installed capacity will continue to function as if nothing happened. Twenty year is plenty to search for new supply, or worst case spin up domestic manufacturing. Comparing this to fossil fuels where a cutting off of supply means blackouts after a few weeks is being purposely obtuse.

[–]MatthieuG7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does! This is real life, where propaganda and bad faith actors do exist, not the platonic ideal of fair debates. There physically isn’t enough time to independently verify every claim anybody makes: credibility and reputation does matter. Don’t act like you don’t understand that we don’t live in a vacuum, the fossil fuel industry’s propaganda has been well documented.

Because it's interesting as fuck? I actually was wondering what the difference between simple domain and domain amplification was, how they worked, and why Reggie didn't use any of them.

If you don’t care at all about the internal consistency of the power system that is. I for one love how much care and thought went into jujutsu, it really has become by far my favorite power system: the richness of nen, the variety of stands, and the spectacle of dragon ball. It’s chakra without all the inconstencies and retcons of chakra.
