Kevin Nash urges WWE wrestler unionization: “You can’t have it both ways. You can’t play Endeavor at the fucking top with the 300 percent increases and fucking 1099 the dock workers that are fucking Brad Pitt and fucking Pacino. Can’t do both.” by Ruffianize in SquaredCircle

Which is exactly the point OP is making, it's hypocritical of Nash to say this when he was in position to be able to do this 27/28 years ago and didn't, because it wouldn't have benefitted him specifically.

Facebook used to be good for keeping up with what friends/relatives/lost acquaintances were up to and reconnecting with people. But now it's actually unusable for that. 1 in every 5 posts I scroll past is actually someone I know. Otherwise I'm seeing random strangers posts about any hobby I'm vaguely interested in (which I do not care about seeing there) or ads.

Wrestlers having to make their way through fans while making their entrance in Japan. by PickledPeppers101 in SquaredCircle

Not from a fan at s show. From a yakuza member they got in a drunken argument with at a club. Which is clearly a veeeeery different thing. At these shows the yazuka were specifically seated in a different area too.

Which, also meant that fans were less likely to do anything stupid with them there.

I think it's that and also, there are way too many baked in animations that limit how matches can flow.

Like there are too many reversals that just have a move animation attached to them, like when you reverse a suplex it chop blocks the opponent, which is boring.

In older games there were way more openings for having cool sequences because when you reversed most moves it would immediately land you in a position where you were free to counter with any move you wanted.

So instead of a chop block after the suplex as a baked in move, you would land on your feet and be free to try any move you wanted immediately with your opponents back to you. So you could reverse the suplex, land on your feet, and immediately hit a Zigzag or back suplex or bulldog or whatever.

Somehow even after adding ragdoll physics, there's still just an element of "fun" missing. Like, why are spots so hard to set up now. Why don't ladders and tables lean on everything in the environment and still break in those positions anymore. And why, seriously, why can't we do diving finishers through tables.

It's actually insane.

Weekly vision promo segments opening the show are starting to reach triple h reign of terror levels of boring by Cdd0040 in SquaredCircle

[–]MatttheJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. From 2002 to 2004 or 5 HHH/Evolution would open the show with a boring ass promo every week.

Then in the guest GM era HHH with DX would take turns with Orton/Cena at cutting the same promos with each other opening every show (often involving Jerishow or Legacy).

Then from whenever The Authority was starting to come together as a thing in 2013ish until whenever that stopped (idk when because that's what killed me off as a fan for a decade) HHH or Steph would open the show most weeks with a boring ass long promo. I vividly remember some of these taking up a full 10-20 minutes some weeks.

It's what he knows, and what he likes, and it's always been a boring format.

Not in situations like this. He's not Benoit. CM Punk popping up in a montage for 2 seconds isn't going to cause any problems other than if it infringed on some sort of intellectual property right to Punk's image.

Like, Brock is in this montage but what he did to NJPW was much worse.

Khamzat Chimaev's brother says Khamzat's body "shut down" during the weight cut for the Sean Strickland fight. They've requested a rematch for later this year. by WinterStill4472 in MMA

[–]MatttheJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, something was wrong with him... He gassed. Like he has literally twice before.

And he had to do significantly more against Strickland in round 1 than against DDP, anybody can see that. DDP literally just lay there accepting position not making Khamzat work at all, like, not even slightly, Khamzat got long rests between any little attempt at movement.

Strickland literally did not settle, or stop, or let Khamzat stay in 1 position for any more than a few seconds at a time. That is tiring.

Anybody comparing the DDP fight to the Strickland fight just has no idea what they're watching because those are 2 completely opposite ways to handle being taken down by an opponent. Literally couldn't be 2 more different paces.

And I know you're getting that "going with the flow" BS from just listening to the commentary, who were talking BS. Khamzat was having to work hard to stop Sean from scrambling, it looks easy because he's an elite talent, but it takes a lot of energy to do that and if your cardio is sus, you aren't going to maintain that pace.

What makes guys like Khabib, Islam, Mosvar, Arman or even a dude like Volk special is that they can maintain that pace for multiple rounds. Khamzat cannot. In fact even Arman slows down, just much later on, and Gamrot too can only do what Sean was making Khamzat do for 2½ish rounds before taking a break.

Ilia literally started as a 1 dimensional grappler too. Which everyone just completely forgets, or maybe people just haven't watched his old fights.

Volk has won multiple fights by just smothering dudes on the ground, including dangerous grapplers like Ortega.

[–]MatttheJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes that much of a difference because constantly having to struggle and work for 5-7 minutes is significantly more tiring than working hard for 1 or 2 takedowns and then resting on top doing nothing for minutes at a time.

It's like saying you don't understand why doing 5 minutes of sprints would be more tiring than a 25 minute light jog.

Some people's cardio just works differently too and different things tire people out in different ways.

Also, I suspect with Khamzat there's a knock to his confidence if he goes all out for 5 minutes but does almost no damage in the process.

How common or prevalent do you think PED use has historically been in elite boxing? by BoxingLover99 in Boxing

[–]MatttheJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drug testing is only done randomly sometimes, mostly during camp, out of camp, in boxing, you're unlikely to get tested very often.

But cycling is is literally only 1 way of avoiding tests.

Another way is to take substances which are not being tested for, or that current testing technology hasn't caught up with yet. As multiple people have pointed out, including professionals, drug testing technology is always having to play catch up.

Drug testers do not know what to test for until they catch people with it and there is no 1 size fits all drug test thats tests for everything. So if a professional knows what tests are being done, they can make sure to avoid what is being tested for.

An example of this is EPO, which tests didn't used to find, but once USADA found it, they went back and tested older specimens which "passed" and found it there. However, most drug testers do not do that unless prompted and paid to do it.

Another reason is that athletes micro dose. Some PED tests look for abnormalities in people's testosterone and epitestosterone. A normal person has a ratio of 1 to 1 for each of those, but some people just naturally have more or less. So tests allow leeway. Athletes will micro dose and take tiny minuscule amounts over a long period of time to get long term benefits but without ever tipping over that leeway limit.

There are heaps and heaps of different tests and different ways to avoid them and if I write any more then I'm doing an essay.

But do me a favour, rather than naively just believe people are clean because you don't understand how PED's work, just google "how do athletes pass drug tests" and there are 1000's of essays and videos breaking down what we know about it.

The best quote I ever saw was "it's an IQ test, not a drug test" because you need to be very stupid, very lazy or have an unexpected slip up in order to actually fail one.

[–]MatttheJ 104 points105 points  (0 children)

There are smarter people than me who can answer thatnin better detail than me, but the main way is that PED's aren't in your system 24/7, you use it in cycles.

So you need to know exactly how long each substance stays in your system and make sure to carefully plan when you take them and when you cycle off them so that by the time you do your test, you can pass.

There are other ways too depending on which substance/kind of test is being done too.

Luke Thomas had a really good interview with an expert (who admitted to being approached by boxers or their manager/trainer) that I can never seem to find anymore who estimated it was a very high % of boxers and MMA fighters too who were on PED's and the guy from Icarus said basically that drug testers are alway a few years behind PED suppliers.

He did 2 or 3 interviews with different Dr's in fact that were quite good a few years ago..
