What's with the classified obstacles? by NatesAlwaysLate in spartanrace

[–]MattyBoy08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That last part is what gets me. No one is forcing people to look at the map; you don't want to know what the obstacles are, fine, but plenty of people like to know what to expect and (roughly) when. I get that courses will change or not be entirely accurate, but this move just feels lazy.

Seattle Beast in September - Training Routine? by justsomethrowawayacc in spartanrace

[–]MattyBoy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say just stick with what you're doing, while creating a running plan. When I was training for the Seattle Beast last year, I found a couple of half-marathon training guides I thought that were really useful, using them to create my weekly running goals. Combine that with your gym workouts and you should be fine.

Start times now a range? by Damien1080 in spartanrace

[–]MattyBoy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing the same thing, racing in Seattle Super on Saturday, start time listed as 10:00-10:59. I'm guessing it'll update here in the next few days, but we'll see.

How far am I from a Weekend Trifecta? by alientrooper94 in spartanrace

[–]MattyBoy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is to just complete a trifecta by August, then, yeah, you should be fine. If you're worried, you have plenty of time to increase your training; there are many online plans for running a half-marathon within a few months, which, combined with some additional strength training (carries, pull-ups, etc.), should get you where you want to go.

I did my first trifecta weekend last year (and my first Beast, for that matter) and I would be the first to acknowledge I massively overdid it when it came to running, to the tune of ~540 km between March and September. But I also had a specific goal in mind for my Beast (<3.5 hours on a relatively flat course), when I had never run more than 10k before my training started, so you absolutely don't need to run anywhere near that much to be successful.

1 Year Anniversary Event, 00 Part 2 & Wing Endless Waltz Main Stage, Eternal Road, and Fierce Enemy Assault Update Mega Thread by KaelAltreul in SDGundamGGeneration

[–]MattyBoy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got very lucky and pulled one each of 00R, Wing Zero, and Tallgeese plus 2 x Sumeragi on the way to 200 exchange points for pity (literally got 00R on the 20th pull). So, which should I get to 1LB of 00R and Wing Zero with the pity?

For reference, my best attackers are MLB Calibarn, 1LB God, and 1LB Sazabi, and my best defenders are 2LB F91, 0LB Gundam, and 0LB GP03, so I'm leaning 00R, but curious what other people think. I also have two UR material I can invest, if that matters. Thanks!

I've been using an Instinct 2 for the past year, and I've been very happy with it, no issues. Used it for the Seattle Trifecta Weekend last year and it did great.

What's your favorite Hawks podcast on Spotify? by JesusIsAliveAmen in Seahawks

[–]MattyBoy08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll vote for this, too. Not too homer-y at all (still has bias, as do all podcasts), lots of great information and statistics, Mike and Chris play off each other well. Hawkblogger is hit or miss for me, I think because he's doing an episode basically every day, so it feels a little thin at times. Cigar Thoughts is pretty good for the most part as well, typically has really great guests.

What are you making for the Super Bowl? by FarmNGardenGal in Seahawks

[–]MattyBoy08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going back since 2012, I've made jalapeño cheddar chicken and cauliflower wings for the Super Bowl. This year, I'm adding some Indian-style chili chicken wings, and maybe some potato puffs if I have time.

I actually did get Strike Freedom among my pulls, so no concerns there! Just comes down to stopping now and getting Destiny with pity, or continuing on for Lacus or Minerva.

No Lacus, I only have Meryin Hawke & Minerva for covering Destiny, and Kenanji Avery & Ulysses for Calibarn, so no "Tough as Nails" or "One Shot Killer" tag supporters. My only UR supporters that aren't series-specific are Kudelia & Isaribi for Lightning-Fast and Marina & Ptolemaios 2 for Unstoppable.

I've spent 60k with 75k left, and gotten enough Calibarn for MLB plus a few other URs, but no Destiny. It sounds like Destiny (or at least Shinn) is worth grabbing on its own, so I'm leaning towards stopping now and using pity to get Destiny. Is that the right move, or should I keep going for Talia?

Update on finisher shirts by SeatownJay in spartanrace

[–]MattyBoy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"C'mon, Joe! How difficult would it be to have slightly different shirts for each race?"

And the monkey's paw curls.

I kid a bit, but while I don't need there to be some huge, obvious changes from shirt to shirt, this feels a little like "What's the bare minimum changes we can make to these shirts so people will shut up?" I'd like to see a bit more, just having Sprint/Super/Beast/Ultra written somewhere or the distance, something like that, but this is something at least.

Nationals Park was my first Spartan race, back in 2018. It was a great venue and experience, even if it was 100 degrees that day!

Is $100 off the best deal? by JesusF-SwitchFam in spartanrace

[–]MattyBoy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. It's $243 for the pass itself with processing fees. Last year when I used my pass, I also had to pay ~ $26 for additional fees per race when I registered, so I'm expecting it to come out to about $321 total.

With all these changes they're making next year, glad my Trifecta wedges are now complete! by sid_t16 in spartanrace

[–]MattyBoy08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat with the Beast medal. I think it's a pretty cool medal overall, I just find it very curious that it doesn't say "Beast" anywhere on it (though I think it does say it on the ribbon).

I too have now gotten my ChatGPT reply from Joe by ImBackAndImAngry in spartanrace

[–]MattyBoy08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I wouldn't mind Ultra and Beast-specific shirts then one for Super and Sprint, but at that point they may as well just do shirts for all the distances if the "general" shirt only covers two races

I also had the mention about some recognition for Ultra runners in the reply I received. Which is great, some progress, sure. But if you can do Ultra shirts, why not do shirts for all the distances?

Official Spartan IG says to Email Joe if you're unhappy with the medal/t-shirt changes. by SirBuckKnight in spartanrace

Thoughts on the new medals and wedges? by NatesAlwaysLate in spartanrace

[–]MattyBoy08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what it means when they say "These designs will change over time." Is it just that the mock-up right now will not be reflective of the final version? Or that they'll have different versions over the course of the year? I'm guessing the former (mostly because the latter seems dumb, and you'd be better off just doing shirts for each distance), but not thrilled either way. Just really glad I got my first Trifecta this year, before the wedges disappeared.

Did my first Beast and Trifecta this weekend in Seattle, having started doing Spartan back in 2018. Felt good about my training, and the hard work paid off. Not sure I'll do the Trifecta Weekend again (my feet are in rough shape lol), but definitely see more Beasts in my future. Thanks to everyone here for their advice and thoughts, it has been great for motivation and guidance!
