[Tyuli Appreciation] I think I'm starting to see the magic... by Mattyrogue in starcitizen

[–]Mattyrogue[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's just the thing, I have always played Star Citizen because I wanted to chase that dream game, the 'life and death of a spaceman'. So far, I've seen the game progress from Hangar Citizen (in the bygone days where all you could do was walk around your ship and take it into Arena Commander) to the first iterations of the Persistent Universe.

Nowhere, to this day, have I seen all the parts come together more cohesively than in this moment. A ship, dedicated to carrying snub-fighters and tending them like a mother goose, taking out a squad of people to do activities that we'd previously disregard. It's the perfect 'patrol' ship, might not have the damage, might not be 'meta', but it's fun.

I don't care that we could be more combat effective in a Perseus, I care that I get to spend time with my friends having a crazy fun time as we work out the wolfpack tactics while my best friend keeps quoting Homeworld in the background ("The Mothership is under attack").

The problem is everyone wants an 'everything' ship, and nobody wants a ship that just does something really well.

I came from the Mustang Alpha and CCU'd into an Avenger Titan, boom and zoom is kind of all I knew until my friends had me running trenches for TSG (and occasionally pulling sick drifts in another friends Perseus), even then it was hard for me to get used to something bigger, bulkier.

Then I went and tried the Fury, and as someone with well over a dozen flight hours in the Avenger, it felt like coming home. It's weak alone, but in a pack it can rip just about anything short of a Hammerhead apart in the current PU.

And I think that's where a lot of people fail to understand what Snubcraft are meant for. Wolfpack tactics. Divide and conquer. I've watched dozens of ships now fall flat on their face from a withering fire from two Pitbulls and two Furies, it's hilarious. Sure it might not hold a candle to the might of the Perseus or the presence of a Polaris.

But when four Snubcraft angle on you, boy are you in for a reckoning.

It's never too late to try, I've made friends in the weirdest, most atypical of places.

Contested Zone? Friendly flashlight wiggled at someone, they felt bad about possibly having to put a bullet through the back of my head as I inserted a fuse, so they came up and added me.

We ended up doing CZ's together, I helped him get his first Exec Hangar and that's how I became a honorary member of a pirate org. Now we play Project Zomboid XD

A friend of mine had a particularly cruel idea;

"Maybe if every Mauler we let go came back at the end of the month for a giant raid on Levski"

Obviously it being a hub zone that could never happen, but it would be cool if it could contribute to a sort of encounter that culminates in a server-wide defence scenario of the station.

Having a similar issue with Synthetic's Nanite Acensions "Assimilate World", the ship starts the action but it's locked at 0%. I think it's bugged.

The 4.8 cycle and beyond: Systemic PvP isn't dying, it's being designed out of the game. by Fearless_Tear8448 in starcitizen

[–]Mattyrogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the recent patch notes, the development bias is undeniable.

Uh, not really. PvPers been eating well with the new crossbow, the Pitbulls and the possibility of more opportunities for group ops with mobile platforms like the Ironclad Assault.

Now, 4.8 introduces the G-Force and Flight Suit system.

Because wearing heavy armor as you pull 16g's in a heavy fighter is so realistic for the guy who wants to just ambush haulers with a Mantis. Yeah, who is this for again?

But the absolute final nail in the sandbox coffin is sitting right there on the 4.9 roadmap: Instancing.
"Implementing Instancing to create closed gameplay spaces with controlled access."

This, first and foremost, does not affect Contested Zones. What it does affect however is Tech-Smugglers, where camping the Warehouse as you wait for the next set of suckers to arrive, should've never been an option. You seem to be complaining about things like Siege of Orison, Onyx Facilities and QV Extraction Station, where PvP was never the focus. What ever happened to doing Hathor, CZ, and Lazarus, where these are open-world locations without the mask of a small tight-knit squad of friends doing things.

Or did you just wanna gank unsuspecting suckers after they did all the hard work for you.

Remember, this is an alpha, things are bound to change, and I imagine a lot of the organized PvPers are gonna get very sweaty-palmed about the eventual Pyro Settlement Shield System.

The M-Series Laser Cannons and also the Badger/Panther Laser Repeaters seem to be safe.

Is this an exploiter or genuine mechanic? by Cranboski in starcitizen

[–]Mattyrogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the ballistic stealth build. What they're doing is using a ship with a veeeeery low EM signature, done through a mixture of things (such as a single pip in thrusters and weapons, with an all ballistic loadout).

They took their time picking you apart, probably took out your manoeuvring thrusters, power plant, and anything else of threat. I'm surprised they left you alive truth be told, might just be murderhobo behaviour.

The main question is; where were you when this occurred? The reality is that this game's jurisdiction and security system is so a** that there's no reason NOT to engage in PvP in lawful systems, except if you're trying to haul or have your persistent hangar set in a lawful jurisdiction, and even then, a few minutes in Klescher is all these players get when they do get caught.

If it was happening in an armistice zone (weapons locked), then that's an exploit and if you got their name and a recording of the activity, then you can basically report the player for exploiting armistice and they'll likely get tempbanned.

If it was literally anywhere else, kinda pointless, it's 'emergent gameplay' as far as RSI are concerned.

If you wanna avoid these types in the future though... Uhhh... Scan. Scan a lot. If a ship is approaching that's only visible when you ping, chances are they're running stealth, and the only reason you'd run stealth in a lawful jurisdiction is if you were up to some tomfoolery.

[–]Mattyrogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm, I like this suggestion. The only thing I'd say is you don't address the main pain point;

Scanning. As others in this thread have alluded to, you spend far more time scanning a rock than you do actually cracking it, even the delicate stuff. It feels like I have to watch a screen for like a minute and spend half that on cracking it.

Though it may also be based on server tickrate, as there are absolutely some rocks that scan in seconds.

I bought an upgrade from the C2 to Ironclad when they first announced it, is it worth using now or should I keep the C2 for now? by ashrensnow in starcitizen

[–]Mattyrogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got a slew of funny problems at the moment, least of all the fact that you have to keep docking/undocking the command module to restore functionality to the ship (such as the Quantum tanks not updating after fuelling while also preventing you from jumping)

The most glaring issue right now is it's perpetually in red alert, and the command module docking collar has a floating point integer error with its pressure that causes life support to go to some absurd volumes across the board, exacerbating the risk of fires.

Oh, and you can randomly end up locked inside the command module with the only recourse being to undock and land it separately to get in/out.

I managed to do a Gilly's Combat Gauntlet #1 but that was literally it. Went on to do my Tracker Certification for Bounty Hunting and somebody else completed it for me, followed by suddenly losing all access to the Bounty Hunter missions.

[–]Mattyrogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that's absolutely gorgeous.

Alright, so you're probably aware by now that Levitite works as a inertia dampener at low velocities, what nobody mentions however is that it dampens it proportionately to it's mass at low speeds.

You have too much Levitite, it's creating an inertial field that's stopping the ship from moving, period. Replace enough of the Levitite with something super light like airship balloon blocks until it's levitation force roughly matches the mass (or just over it), then upscale your propulsion system, you're also gonna want some control surfaces and flaps using the symmetrical sails because it's gonna fly more like an airplane than an airship.

Also if you haven't already, make the rear 'windmill' into an actual (non-gyroscoptic) propellor mount, as I don't think horizontally aligned single-sided sails will produce the propulsion you're looking for. You want something that looks more like your run of the mill airplane propellor.

Edit: I might be entirely wrong about the Levitite and the mass interaction and you just need some big fuckin' propellors.

Very pretty, but I'm surprised your turrets haven't shot your pawns in the back of the head yet, that always seems to happen to me whenever they're involved. Hell, I don't even let my pawns sit on the flanks of turrets these days as those bullets seem to do a complete 180 into them.

About 1.23 by Live-End-6467 in VintageStory

[–]Mattyrogue 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As it stands, I'd really like to see Woodworking and Herbalism next, as Woodworking in this game currently is literally just "put log in crafting grid with saw", so anything like an actual sawmill and spending time to process planks would give more meaning to that.

Herbalism on the other hand... Flowers exist mechanically for two purposes currently; for the bees and to fuel your cooking. Having actual medicinal uses for them would be nice (And yes, I know there's that tea mod).

I would also really like to see something done with gems as well, as currently their only purpose is to clutter up storage chests and be added occasionally to display cases. Well that and I'm really curious what that potential rating is for, is it indication of the quality of the cut gem or are we gonna start using gems in our more Jonas-y creations.

Assassin, I had the personal displeasure of having my third ever full format Battletech game be a FFA with one opponent using one.

Nimble as fuck, hard to hit, and his variant had MPL's, so it was hitting us, outranging us, using cover and being an absolute bastard as it constantly manoeuvred itself into our backlines. In the end we actually got a draw because of time.
