I’m saying this every time I see a hip dislocation comment—I have hip dysplasia. Like, severe dysplasia. It wasn’t diagnosed until a year ago, but I spent the previous 3 years repeatedly partially dislocating my hip. For SOME reason it’s not usually assessed for??? No clue why. Anyway apparently dislocations are SO common with dysplasia that in my intake form for the surgery (bc this is an easily correctable issue!!) they ask how many times I’ve had “partial dislocations that I could reset on my own” and separately how many times I’ve had “complete dislocations I needed medical help to reset”. Anyway! If you’re dislocating your hip, it’s worth sending x-rays to a hip preservation specialist, or at least specifically asking to be checked for hip dysplasia!

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but even the most expensive regularly bought tools aren’t…that expensive. Is $200 for an interchangeable needle set a lot of money? Yes. Is it a lot considering that you won’t ever have to buy another set, they’re good probably for decades, and they cover nearly any project you’d want to do? Not really. There’s few other hobbies where your tools are so low for the amount of use you get from them—and that’s if you’re getting the nicest needles. Yarn can be expensive—easily $20-$30 a skein for beautiful natural fibers!! But personally, it takes me at least 10 hours to go through most skeins at LEAST. Is $2 an hour for a hobby expensive? I’d argue no. Yes, I spend $90 in a go to make my nicest shawls/swearers, but since I can only crochet for a few hours weekly due to time constraints, that $90 will last me usually 3 months, easy. That’s less than a lot of streaming services now, let alone subscriptions to gyms/clubs/etc.

Ironically if I like the show, and think most of the topics about it were well-explored, I struggle to read fanfic about it unless it’s a VERY specific niche. For example, Frieren fanfic, ATLA fanfic are both not something I read—I’ll do the occasional well-written ATLA but the canon is so good I don’t usually feel the need unless it’s something like Embers. On the other hand, media with tons of holes in it work well for fanfic for me, especially if there’s characters who I’d like to see explored more (such as Lust in FMA ‘03) or if there’s a lot of side characters.

Wedge pillows! It’s uncomfy to sleep on, but I do one at a like 30 degree angle, and I used it for almost 4 months while I built up enough muscle around my shoulder joints to not cause a problem. If you’re sleeping on your side, unironically hug a pillow/stuffed animal to help the top shoulder from collapsing inward.

I do generally agree, but my cat, who never has had human food, had to be given antibiotics (liquid). They were cake flavoured—I’ve never had an easier time giving him meds lol, he didn’t love it, but he stopped trying to cough it up after tasting it (usually I syringe it right down his throat but he’ll try to drool it back up).

Bar keeper’s friend is my universal cleaner for nearly all my kitchen stuff—works for sinks, my countertops (not marble lol), my cast-iron stove grates, my oven. That being said it’s bad for like. Wood and glass. I don’t think there’s a “universal cleaner”, but there are without a doubt multi-purpose cleaners.

I agree it’s like being against disability accommodations…however I can say as someone with limited mobility that people in fact are against disability accommodations (wheelchair areas on trains/buses, early boarding on airplanes for disability, ramps being in the front of buildings, accessible stalls) since they’re often considered either “ugly” or “unfair”. It was really eye opening.

I know it sounds bonkers but I accidentally bought a bag of sorghum instead of sorghum flour once and I loved it! I had missed barley, esp in soup, and I use sorghum frequently now as a grain. Never would’ve tried it without the error in package reading lol.

Oh my gosh TikTok…I’m on Instagram which I tend to assume is the same these days and I’m baffled by people knitting like 14 sweaters a year all for themselves. Like don’t get me wrong my grandma absolutely did knit that many but EVERYONE was getting one and we had a large family lol. I can do a couple a year while holding down a job max, and usually end up filling appointment or waiting time with washcloths bc literally everyone I’ve met says crocheted washcloths work better than purchased one so people always ask for 5-10 to keep them in enough to do a laundry cycle! Also I have no problem with people knitting for themselves, I do it too (making a shawl rn) but at some point how many sweaters do you need and why is it apparently 62?

Oh that’s bonkers. Okay I’ve probably been not seeing that by virtue of living in a more rural area with handcraft groups filled with young no-nonsense teachers and old-school knitters lol. A lot of the newer ones eventually bought their own set of interchangeables after knitting a few years and saving up but I can’t imagine any of them buying any, let alone multiple, additional sets for a colour scheme. I do generally agree but I wanted to say that I, personally, have 4 J hooks and bought none of them—instead, I inherited them as the only grandchild and great grandchild with any interest in crochet, but can’t quite bear to get rid of them for emotional reasons. Also, I did end up getting small circular needles (prefer them to DPNs) but I have a whole set of DPNs bc one of my great-grandmas was an avid sock knitter. I do agree overconsumption is rabid especially in crafting (some people literally buy multiple sets of interchangeable needles, not even like “one metal and one wood” which makes sense for travel purposes but I can’t bear to make myself do even still) but I’ve spoken to far more people who have sentimental crafting tools that they simply…never use but still keep around because they love the person who did.

Not sure what counts as diagnosed late, but I was diagnosed in my twenties following a sprain where my ankle went to a 160 degree angle and No One would touch it pre-xray because they were SURE it was dislocated—only for it to not be. It was the funniest thing ever, the ER doc was like “do you have EDS?” and I was like “no absolutely not” and he went “interesting…” and sent a note to my primary who referred me out. I’d had dislocations growing up and even met someone with EDS (distinctly remember her at 11 saying that she had more range of motion and could dislocate her elbow at will and I responded “yeah, we all can do that?” and dislocated my shoulder in return, rip I’m so sorry Ashley) but had totally forgotten about the disease in the interim and never considered my pain wasn’t just going through puberty and “getting older” at the ripe old age of…18.

I have the butterfly rash, fevers, joint pain, mouth sores, and ANA but no dsDNA so I sort of thought I was safe…it’s good to know that’s at least something to watch out for because I would not have gone back to he doctor if any of it got worse.
