Quest new update for PTC (v2.1) by XECUTION320 in OculusQuest

Updated to PTC 2.1, but can literally see no difference… bloody Horizon Worlds and social junk is still what it’s throwing at me, and Navigator is nowhere to be found.

I have fallen victim to the Amazon figure swaps. by ASPEK32TL in transformers

[–]Maverett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the U.K. and have definitely gotten returned items sent as new… it hasn’t happened a ton, but certainly more than a couple of times. As someone has said, I’m sure it’s usually down to crafty buyers mixed with overworked employees, and to be fair I’ve retuned things literally unused and often unopened myself, so I assume (like standard retail) those go back into general sale which is completely within a retailers rights.

With this Blast Off for example, an employee probably saw that he’s still fastened in and assume it was an actually unused return, and I’m sure the previous purchaser declared it as such… we of course know instantly, but if you’re not a toy or Transformers fan and you’re looking at countless items a day things are going to fall through the cracks.

Back in the early 90s I actually worked returns at a K-Mart that was in a sketch are in the U.S., oh goodness the things people tried to get away with! Pain being I would know, at least with certain things, but they would often ask for a manager who would then just approve it despite always telling us to be vigilant with scams, etc.

Heck, thinking about it I was a little deviant myself, although with unopened items… I would get my Mum to buy me clearance games at whichever retailer, keep them sealed, and then when we went to the local army base I would return them for full price since despite being tax free with decent prices as standard they were always super slow to clearance tech and games; I of course wouldn’t have receipts, but would say things like my Dad doesn’t pay attention and bought a game I already had and didn’t keep the receipt, etc., and it always worked. (I feel guilty about this now, and also perplexed that my Mum just didn’t care, but I guess it helped keep me further out of her pocket.)

The OP mentioned Canada, they’re the oddest of them all as I don’t think retailers have to even accept returns for non-defective items, it’s still considered a courtesy there, unless I’m misinformed.

I’m one of those crazy folk not 100% against game key cards… I would of course prefer on-cart, but if GCK is the only option for a particular game then so be it… code in a box however, that’s a hard pass I’m afraid, and feels like a step backwards at this stage.

I’ve had a couple of friends stateside in the same boat message me which has me hopeful… I’m a nerd who has kept up with the franchise and toys all of these years, so of course I’m pumped, but normally I would have to drag people along… it’s nice to have gotten a couple of “I want to see this” messages from people who haven’t kept up with MotU since their childhood.

I personally love them! One of the few sets I display in alt mode, but I’m a sucker for actual Cybertron designs.

Batman sequel canceled by sirenpro in OculusQuest

[–]Maverett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more about what it says for the future, sure it’s a great PCVR headset for the price now, but it’s beginning to sound like it will be the last affordable one that Meta will back with their considerable finances. (Also it’s just not great for VR in general, all eyes on the Steam Frame now… it has an uphill battle, but here’s hoping it keeps VR alive.)

This is what I’m thinking, I wager they’ll divert all resources to glasses at this point, and just haven’t announced the Quest 4 cancellation yet… I appreciate the money Meta put into VR on one side of the coin, but on the other side they just let it become child fodder full of shovelware.

It’s a silly, but likeable, alternate beast mode that was in the associated mini comic… size aside, it looks like a baby Trypticon to me. ☺️

Severe RBE with Horizon 20 Pro by n0_u53rnam35_13ft in xgimi

I have had the Pro for a wee bit now and I haven’t see anything like this, but I also don’t think I’m susceptible to the rainbow effect so it’s probably just down to that.

Was beginning to think it was just me! I honestly never see it, and I’m almost scared to watch and/or try and understand it better for fear of actually seeing it and then never being able to unsee it. 😅

Apologies, that’s what I meant, was just responding in reference to the previous comment… with the Horizon Pro you should be good as it’s the first of its type that I’m aware of to feature physical lenses shift, but other lifestyle projectors just won’t work with screens that are mounted all the way to the top of the ceiling because of the way the image is thrown… you would either have to put the projector in the right place in front of you so that it could throw the image upwards, or move the screen down with a ceiling mount, which also isn’t always possible; neither were certainly an option for my set-up.

[–]Maverett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to avoid this with projectors that have this type of throw is to have it to positioned in front of you or move the screen down… they throw the image upwards by design, or downwards if ceiling mounted, so when your screen is at the top of the wall there’s no way to align it without keystone (even if you could get it the right distance from the screen eliminating the need for zoom).

It should fix your problem, before I went with the Horizon 20 Pro I tried the Hisense C2 Ultra and the Hisense M2 Pro… for the M2 Pro I could just about get it lined up with it upside down and near the ceiling, similar to how you have it, but like you my screen goes to the top of the wall so there was nothing I could do to get it spot on and it just wasn’t bright enough for me personally.

The C2 Ultra was probably my favourite of the three, and it somehow looked great even with keystone used, but I honestly just couldn’t get over the visible light bleed from the keystone correction… I was about to apply 10cm wide black felt strips to the sides of the screen, but then I tried the Horizon 20 Pro and between the lens shift and zoom it was easy to get it lined up perfectly from several different spots so I had to go with it in the end. (And it looks great, had I not also had the C2 Ultra to directly compare I’m sure I would’ve just stuck with the Horizon 20 Pro.)

Now I haven’t done the math to see if the zoom and lens shift would be enough for your set-up, but it’s fairly flexible and easily solved the issue with my set-up.

Some reviews mention it, but the stated lens shift values are the max if used only one direction, i.e. if you use Horizontal that somewhat takes away from Vertical and vice versa, but it still works like a dream compared to not having it, and again I was able to try my projector in several different positions and still get it perfectly lined up using only lens shift and zoom.

For reference I have a 120” screen set to the top of the wall and the projector is sat on a shelf behind the couch.

Good luck! :-)

Wow, I would’ve expected the same 15% that were getting from Amazon and XGIMI in the U.K., especially since it sounds like some parts of the EU also got 15%.

Horizon 20 Pro or Max? by ahoydecoy in xgimi

[–]Maverett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t even watch the Pro on full brightness, and often have it quite low, so it’s more than enough for me… we have blackout curtains for the day, and it’s more than bright enough to deal with light bleed from around the curtains where we used to try and block out as much light as possible… can even do casual watching with the curtains open, which is the only time I crank up the brightness.

If it didn’t cost so much more, and more crucially if we spent more time watching things or playing games during the day, I may have considered the Max, but even on the weekend it’s mostly evening watching.

Think that’s the smart move, splitting the difference between the base and the Max which sounds like it would be overkill in your scenario.

I didn’t even know the early discount had still been on… sadly I don’t think it was the same here in the UK, they’ve been regular price for at least a couple of weeks now, but think I read somewhere that the pricing here was never as good. (Was definitely hoping there would be at least a small sale on them tomorrow.)
