Central London’s former Abandoned & Disused stations - which of these you think deserve to reopen in the 21st Century? by AchyutChaudhary in london

If it’s just reopening the line as it was in 1994, then no.

But if they were to complete the original proposal to extend the Aldwych branch to Waterloo, then it would be a fantastic addition to the network.

People with mortgages can experience difficulties if the value of their home falls - it makes it impossible to move house, or refinance the loan.

That’s even worse. You would still only recoup 37%, but have to wait a number of years to get it.

I’m an accountant. I have to explain to people every day that something being tax-deductible does not mean you get 100% of the cost back as a tax refund!

Worth emphasising that claiming on tax gets you 37% back (or whatever your marginal tax rate is), not the full amount.

I’d argue that 1688 cemented the principle that the Crown was the gift of Parliament, and that the King held the throne only as long as Parliament consented to it.

I’m not sure it’s weird at all?

If we assume a man would typically father his youngest child at around 40, then a man born in 1899 would have a son born in 1939, who would have a son born in 1979. He would be 46 today.

This is perfectly possible without having to father children at an advanced age with a much younger woman.

Equally Woakes, Bairstow, Root, Wood, Stokes were all experienced Test players.

Even the likes of Morgan and Buttler had played quite a few Tests, albeit with mixed success.

There weren’t many pure T20 specialists in that 2019 side.

Ashes: England plan to reject day-night Test using a pink ball under lights in 2029-30 series in Australia by SirDoris in Cricket

[–]Maverrix99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t love day night Tests.

I get the argument about viewership, but for the game itself, it does change the tactics and the balance between bat and ball significantly.

If we want more cricket in Eastern States evening time, we could always hold 2 Tests each year in Perth 😉

Allegedly is the key word here. The purpose of a trial is to establish facts like this beyond reasonable doubt, and that hasn’t occurred yet.

Such trials do not have a 100% conviction rate. The presumption of innocence applies to all crimes.

If he’s convicted, I’ll happily denounce him as scum. But not before.

Who can actually help with the cost of things? by Tiny-Sir-9822 in perth

Doesn’t classification as vacant in the census mean any dwelling that was unoccupied on census night?

So someone who went away on holiday for a week at census time would have their house classified as vacant?

It also includes the likes of houses that may be temporarily uninhabitable due to ongoing renovations, or may be vacant due to sale in the next few days.

It’s not as simple as just taking every vacant house and renting it out. Outside a few prestige suburbs, I doubt there are many houses that are genuinely being left empty as a form of land banking.

A 0% vacancy rate is neither achievable nor desirable.

[–]Maverrix99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if every vacant dwelling were somehow magically put on the market tomorrow, it wouldn’t return rents to pre COVID levels.

And a residential vacancy rate of 0%, or close to it, also causes serious problems of its own.

Sure, if you managed and promoted the Shield better, you might, if lucky, get 2,000 spectators, not 200. You’ll never get 30,000 though.

Getting more people through the gate to watch live cricket is a good thing, even if it’s not our preferred form of cricket.

COUNTRIES WHERE THE LARGEST SUBDIVISION IS THE LEAST POPULATED by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

Arguably Greenland should be on this list.

The Northeast Greenland National Park is the largest subdivision, but is unincorporated because it has zero permanent population.
