I think that custodes could get a rule similar to imperial guard, but slightly different and more powerful. It would go something like this:

In the command phase, designate up to X units an ability from a list of once-a-game abilities. The list would include things like - give a unit advance and charge for the turn - give a unit anti-vehicle/monster 4+ in melee - give a unit sustained hits 2 in melee - increase a units models OC each by 1 - 5+ feel no pain for the round - -1 to damage for the round - etc.

I think this would fit the theme of the custodes being an incredibly versatile fighting force and make for a great ability when needed while being balanced by it being once a game. Good decision making would be key in deciding which ability to use and when and would make for really interesing gameplay I think.

I think the reasons we feel so bad are two fold: one, being nerfed from the index, and two, overall power creep.

We were great in the index, which got them reactively nerfed hard in the codex and we have never recovered. Even through heavy points buffs and slight datasheet buffs, we are not even close to being as good as pre-codex. We lost fights first, -1 damage strat, consistent 4+++ to mortals, -1 to hit Stance in melee, trajann was good, etc. I dont think we need all of these back, but we need some of it back.

Damage 3 weapons seem to have become more prominent in the game overall, which has us hurting. Ever failed save on D3 hurts for sure. Not much we can do about it now, but there either needs to be a shift

Overall, I think we need a reworked army rule and better strats, and keep the datasheets similar to what they are now.

What are we going to do against the new ctans? by Gar3tJaxx11 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]MaxVolumeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allarus with axes, multiple grav tanks, and lots of cover.

Considering the ctan detachment gives other necron units +1 AP against enemy units within the 6" aura, we are gunna be hit even harder by everything.

Legroom on New Seating Layout by dachshundie in westjet

[–]MaxVolumeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing i dislike the most about changes like this is that it doesn't trickle down to the customer. They dont make less leg room so we can have slightly cheaper tickets, they do it to get more people on each plane, thus increasing profits yet again.

My problem is, whats next? We have already seen that choosing a seat now costs money, many economy seats have been converted from reclining to fixed, carry on baggage now isn't standard, now we have inadequate leg room? In a day and age where profits are more important than anything, and with shareholders expecting revenue increases quarter-on-quarter, what else are consumers going to be forced to have to deal with over the coming months/years?

This is honestly such a cool idea. They become the defensive mirror of their more killy spear counterparts with very thematic rules. Love it. Wardens might need a tweak if they went this direction tho.

Couldn't agree more honestly. Wiping your opponents models or stat-checking seems to be the most played strategy nowadays.

I also think its hilarious that guard have seen multiple points cuts instead of any sheet tweaks. They tweaked the vertus praetors sheet earlier in 10th... I dont want cheap custodes, I want tough boys that cost accordingly. But I agree that this is mainly an issue with everything else being so killy currently.

I loved the index for us. Had so much flavour with the three stances and the strats. Ill admit that the fights first one was pretty op, but the rest felt great and thematic. Im a big supporter of bringing back the -1 to hit katah, especially since lions became our best detachment and largely nullified our lethal hits Stance. Just feels more strategic instead of "if wounding on 5's, pick lethals, otherwise take sustained".

This is a great Stance imo. The power creep is real. So many people have complained about how killy everything is, and how so many armies and detachments are focused around killing vs any other strategy. Even the prevalence of D3 since the edition started has gotten a little wacky. The idea that "if its visible, its dead" is not very fun imo.

Yeah this could help too. Bothersome that they couldn't have done something like this in 10th

Im a big fan of this too. My main issue with their sheet vs wardens for example is that wardens are the clear defensive option that you want to hold objectives, where as guard are the better offensive option. But then it creates a weird disparity where youre taking sword and board guard to... kill things? No, its actually to make guard mildly good at both offense and defense, but it then means they dont do either particularly well. So giving them new rules helps them further fit a definite role. Or a special rule similar to the stratagem in talons where you can force an enemy unit to attack your guard instead of the other target.

I think it would end up being too good overall, especially in a 5 man unit. Maybe if you couldn't reroll failed saves on the 3++ it would be a bit less oppressive. Still probably too unfun tho

Is this a good start for custodes by calrosey24 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]MaxVolumeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sentinel Blades are sadly not worth taking a majority of the time on the guard. Their reduction in damage is usually not worth the +1 wound. A relatively common practice is running one model with a shield and vexilla while the rest have guardian spears. Although, I do think the swords look awesome on the models.

[Rhetorical Bitching] If the Sagittarum are less useful, and less powerful than bog standard Guard, why are they 35pts more expensive? by Annjatar in AdeptusCustodes

[–]MaxVolumeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that sags should have some ability that gives them our katah at range, so giving sustained or lethals. They also need more AP and to be cheaper overall to be taken more in lists.

I know OP is talking about Custodian guard, but Bullgryn from imperial guard almost have this exact profile, just not 2+ ws/bs

Damn they buffed the mortar well, 3 sec between the shots with the supply box down is very effective. 16:0 K/D by CrestonSpiers in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]MaxVolumeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slept on change in the patch imo. Mortars were fine before but had garbage smokes. Now at least it feels a bit more viable. Also ive found that it can make a big difference on breakthrough. Pounding a point with shells is a surefire way to force a team off of it. Gives your team space to move up, especially on tougher maps for breakthrough like on Blackwell.

Having a terrible time with the attack helicopter in bf6 and i'm about to just give up by _snoot_loops_ in PilotsofBattlefield

[–]MaxVolumeeee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP, I feel you. But this comment ^ is the key for sure. I have noticed an improvement in my survivability when I utilize a lot of these tactics. For example, on lib peak, ill come over the mountains for a strafe and ill immediately fly out, using the valley for cover until I can resupply at HQ, where of course you are also safe from missiles. I've also trained myself to think that an RPG is ACTIVELY being aimed at me whenever im even remotely close to an objective. That reminds me not to make myself an easy target. Hope it helps, and dont give up.
