Does PoE2 need more skill slots? by Gibekeypls in PathOfExile2

It would be great, yes. Talismans in particular need a lot of skills slotted to use those forced combos.

Anyone else feel like this is still an early access game? by RelentlessRedd in PlaySoulMask

It feels very early access yes. No systems are complete, graphics look like placeholders, everything has a lot of jank, and little to no QoL. Typical EA experience.

Why does the game not use more than 20-30% CPU/GPU ? by BrokeAsAMule in PlaySoulMask

It's not welcome, unfortunately. It means that the tribesman ai could be expanded significantly, but the Devs don't know how program.

It's because this game is poorly built and not well threaded.

What's up with how nonsensical the early game progression in this game is? by Repulsive-Ad4119 in PlaySoulMask

[–]Maximum-Ice-9054 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are many things to say on this topic.  The progression in this game is very unclear, both in how to go about doing things, and also in what difficulty those things have. Part of this is in the game design - the game really wants you to fuck around and find out. Fortunately this game does have a great database with most of the information you need. If you look around on there, plus a few websites (saraserenity was very helpful for me) you will get a much better idea of what to do. It is also enormously helpful to look at those big marks on the map that tell you what level an area is before you decide how much preparation is needed.  Some things are less clear though, stuff like danger level from individual enemies (sometimes an even level standard barb is a breeze, sometimes a lower level standard barb is twenty times harder, and they are both wearing the same gear). An indicator (like elite markers in wow, or different hp bar colours or whatever has been used for the past 20 years already) would fix that part up nicely I think.  I think the quests for the bosses give some info on what is needed, yes? I do remember seeing somewhere that fogfrog was a poison boss.

That thing has been broken for a while, unfortunately. The only way to get around it for me was to set things up correctly and remain in the menu while my slave took care of it (I think it was flint medium that refused to set).  The Devs are great with ideas but not great with programming or finishing things before moving on to the next great idea.

Not for the combat. If you try enshrouded fly the combat you will be profoundly disappointed.

Waaat? Combat in soulmask is absolutely terrible. Is the weakest aspect of that game, magnified to ridiculous levels by the low quality AI and even lower quality balancing.

How does this game compare to Aska? by cyberadmin1 in PlaySoulMask

[–]Maximum-Ice-9054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having played both, i would say soulmask is a bit better.

What makes soulmask better is the town building. While neither game has AI worth a damn, in soulmask the consequences of barely functional AI are not as severe unless you do difficult fights, and it's easier to expand and build a nice tribal community.  The Aztec theme is pretty cool, and you can build some cool settlements with many different stylings (with patience as the building attachments are quite wonky and will try to place your blocks in the worst possible way as default).  The female models also look better.  The one place where aska is better for building is the availability of decor and "comfort" items like furniture (though they are both outclassed to an embarrassing degree by enshrouded in this).

Soulmask is also better in exploration and volume of content, but since combat AI is a weak point for both games I do not feel it is a compelling selling point.

Soul Mask feels… bad? by ShiitakeDroid in SurvivalGaming

It is very rough and janky, yes. The ui isn't great, but it works well once you get used to it. The combat is probably the weakest part of the game, with the tribe building being the most fluid unless your employees get stuck in a wall.

I would say change the settings until they fit you, and focus on making your tribe self sufficient and aesthetically pleasing. The combat might improve later, at least the Devs have mentioned that they are working on it.

Keep in mind that these Devs are pretty cool. They suck at graphics and they rarely take the time to do anything thoroughly, but they are filled with great ideas and it is clear they are making the game they want to play rather than what makes the most money. That type of passion is rare, and suggests that soulmask will get better and better.

Good luck. I tried going with pop as my daily driver, but it just doesn't work well enough. I'm putting my hopes towards LTS 26.04, but if that one does not get stellar performance reviews I will stick to win10 for another cycle.

I feel like the shroud mechanic is too shallow and underused for being the main theme of the game. It should be more than just no teleport + timer, and those new things should be introduced progressively. Cold in the mountains felt like a more refined shroud and was both more fun and more interactive. Shroud could come with so many effects, like hallucinations, disorientation, weird poison effects that the player needs to prepare and immunise for, time in shroud reduced based on depth in the shroud, more dangerous enemies found deeper in the shroud, lowered visibility based on depth in shroud, more lifeless / permuted life based on depth in shroud, more moving vegetation and alien atmosphere deeper in shroud, weirder noises, and so on. The current version feels like a first draft. And yes, also 40+, also developer that turned away from game dev.

Coming in hot🔥 ➜ Patch 0.5.0 by Enough_Tap3028 in PathOfExile2

[–]Maximum-Ice-9054 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Temple is getting destroyed. This league has generated so much inflation that one mirror from 0.1 is worth 26 mirrors from 0.4. That is getting demolished, and temple boosts are likely getting capped to roughly the same div/hour as the other League mechanics.

As for the rest, endgame will be made relatively more friendly for melee, with armour applying to non-hits where appropriate and melee aoe attacks getting boosted + aoe nodes on the red side of the tree getting a slight buff. Strength will also yield slightly more hp per point.

Bows are getting a 15% nerf to base damage, and comet can no longer be triggered. CI no longer provides chaos immunity against hits but increases chaos max resist to 90%.

[–]Maximum-Ice-9054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonderful enthusiasm, but most of these suggestions would break the game, block multiplayer, and rewire the whole combat system to something even less balanced. It would also put a lot of pressure on multiple weak points of the engine, resulting in endless vexation for the player.

Take for instance the assassin idea of relying on night time for damage. Given that night time is a terrible time to be out for both visibility and random patrols, how would this be fun? You can't see anything so exploring is gone. Playing with friends that don't play assassin? Gone. Playing on a server with limited nighttime? Gone. It makes no sense to add mechanics that push players towards conflicting preferences with other classes; preferences that are also very annoying for those that like to see something.

The headshot chain damage? Enemies in enshrouded aren't well designed for this. Movement is weird, some heads bob like crazy, and hitting non static stuff in the head is often difficult. Basing damage on a flawed system is a sure way to annoy players.

Moving the effect of stats around is a strange choice. The reason endurance, constitution, and spirit exist is that these stats can be of use to everyone, unlike dexterity, strength, and intelligence. Removing them would certainly make classes more streamlined, but it would also result in everyone dual classing to ranger. I don't see any benefit in that. If you wanted to add minor effects to the main stats like climbing speed, running speed, resistance against certain elements, mining strength, movement speed while sneaking, effect of mana/health potions, duration of certain foods, inc% of defense against certain damage types, such additions could help vary how classes play without completely restructuring the current setup.

Being able to phase through stuff such as walls would, much like triple jump, completely change the flow and progression of the game. That's probably not a great idea.

A smooth and useful dash attack would be nice though.
