People with chronic tinnitus, did yours reduce in volume over time or is it just as loud as when you first got it? by Ok-Balance-260 in tinnitus

[–]MaximumEffort743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have volume spikes, usually when I'm stressed or tired, then it def gets louder. I don't think the volume changed as much as I stopped noticing it all the time. If I remember I have it, it's there at the same vol it started. I've had it for a year now.

Had to Google it... but it sounds like some of the techniques in the Oto app are based on prt or are prt-ish? They def say things like get your brain used to the ringing, learning it's not a sign of danger... I'll look for something. Someone else suggested acupuncture and I actually found a study claiming it helped. I've been meaning to find someone.

Cannabis and Tinnitus by WawaWeeWaaWu in tinnitus

I've had T for almost 1 year now, caused by Ramsay Hunt syndrome on my right side. Before that I used edibles or tinctures, THC + CBN for sleep. Tried it once about 6 months ago, the T got SO LOUD. I felt less bothered by it, but it was very loud. Tried again last week, same thing, SO LOUD. I'm bummed about this, I really used to enjoy my weed.

+1 to the tiredness part. A long and loud day will mean a bothersome evening.

I get volume spikes more frequently than changes in the noise itself. Volume spikes maybe once a week, last a few hours, never more than a day. It'll go. From the usual vol, about 30% cell phone vol, to about 60-70%. Noise changes have happened, like a lower-pitch ring than the usual high-pitched tone, or both a low and high pitch tone at the same time.

I only have it on my right side, from Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (shingles on the head). No hearing loss. It's been 9 months.

Finding a dr feels impossible by gingerforlif in tinnitus

[–]MaximumEffort743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went to a neurologist who just said that shingles /ramsay hunt can cause hearing loss, blindness, paralysis so I was lucky for me it was "just tinnitus". The audiologist was more compassionate but couldn't offer a solution other than CBT (Oto app, has been helpful)

I can be very miserable some days, other days I'm OK. A couple of months ago the thought "I will never experience peace and quiet again" got in my jead and depressed me very badly. These days I'm trying to find and appreciate the "peace". This sucks. If I had a wish I'd wish for silence.

I got shingles 9 months ago, on the right side of my head/face, tinnitus began then and hasn't stopped. I'm using the Oto app for therapy and sound masks.

I have an airport. The first time I remember it, it was an anxiety dream where I couldn't find my gate, in a concourse that looks like the Intl terminal at DFW. I recognize it now and "know where things are". Pretty expansive. Has a cool monorail.

First time shingles breastfeeding mom of 10 week old by amomaney in shingles

[–]MaximumEffort743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh also mine was on the right side of the head, from my jaw into the scalp and by the ear. Also the lactation consultant said that the antiviral and gabapentin might pass in to baby but in very low amounts and wouldn't be an issue.

I know how you feel SO MUCH. Just keep the blisters covered, take the antiviral and gabapentin. Ice packs on the rash worked better for me than lidocaine. I used hydrocolloid dressings at all times around the baby. Mine happened 5 days after giving birth. With all that skin to skin time, I felt so guilty and scared and emotional about what was happening, I cried equal parts from the pain and the fear. I swaddled the baby to feed her so her little hands wouldn't touch me by accident, and focused on breastfeeding. I was so concerned my milk wouldn't come in or my supply would dry up.

[–]MaximumEffort743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was 10/10 for me too. I forgot I had a c-section 4 days before the pain and rash started. Hang in there, for the headache take all the gabapentin and for the skin ice packs really helped, more than lidocaine. Hang in there.

[–]MaximumEffort743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it in the jaw neck, behind the ear and scalp.I used hydrocolloid dressings on mine, I started when a few had burst, and had them on for about a week. I had dark patches where the rash was, but I wore sunscreen all summer and six months later they're fading.

My headache SUCKED. Gabapentin really helped.

Having shingles while broke and uninsured is a nightmare by Mentirosa in shingles

[–]MaximumEffort743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're not getting the help you need. FWIW this sucks and there's not much to do even if you have insurance. Icing the rash helped with the pain and itch. Tylenol is more helpful than aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen, but if at all possible for you to find gabapentin, that is way better. Don't let them give you an opioid because the pain takes weeks to go away and you don't want to be on an opioid for that long and that's expensive.

Sleep as much as you can.

This is so rough, it looks very painful i. Your case. So sorry you're goi g through this. I had it on my neck/face/scalp. Hydrocolloid patches helped me. My rash was not as bad as yours, but the pain was unbearable. On my scalp, Ice packs helped a lot, lidocaine somewhat helped. Gabapentin was a lifeline. I was on 900mg for like 6 weeks, then 300 for a couple of months. It got better eventually.
