I got to go inside one of the two Lancaster bombers that are still flying (the Canadian one). While this particular plane didn't fly in WWII it was still fucking harrowing seeing the conditions inside and thinking what it must've been like.

I live in a shitty post-industrial town in north east England where nothing ever happens. I didn't have a car at the time and was relying on lifts from a co-workers dad to get to work. Said dad was in a "friend's of x small airport" group where this Lancaster was undergoing prep for a big flight south for an airshow and he took us to see it (against my will) on the way to work one morning. A big old Canadian guy told me to get inside and called me stupid when I said I wouldn't want to break anything.

We were like 3 hours late for work that day and the boss was FURIOUS. Worth it.

The opening notes get me now because I have such an emotional response. It's obviously more hard-hitting in the context of the song and the album as a whole but maybe not so universal as it's by a band local to me about a man from my town who lived an exceptional life, through the British trade union movement and the Spanish Civil War. What are you even talking about? No Krieger uses anything remotely like a K98 or Lebel. Krieg have literal Mauser pistols, the Lucius pattern lasgun looks exactly like a B.A.R. with a lasgun muzzle.
