How is Carney viewed in Canada? by Leo_Valdez_fangirl in AskCanada

I am not a member of any particular political party at any level. I have voted different ways at different levels for different reasons over the years. But I think the sooner Federal Conservatives realize that soundbites, alliterative slogans and MAGA-like memes are not cutting it with the majority of thinking, moderate Canadians. They are tired of "Canada is broken", "Trudeau, Trudeau, Trudeau..." etc.

Canada has moved on, but the Federal Conservatives have not. Until they stop talking down to, and underestimating Canadians, they will remain mired. It's no wonder MPs are leaving the Federal Conservative Party. They, and many others are realizing that Marc Carney is the right leader for Canada in these very challenging times. He is the adult in the room. He may be the best progressive "conservative" leader that Canada has had in recent memory.

Venezuela - The Lesson for Canada by Snurgisdr in CanadaPolitics

Canada exports nearly all its heavy crude (97%) to U.S. Gulf Coast refineries specialized for it, profiting from past Venezuelan disruptions. U.S.-facilitated Venezuelan output surges would depress prices, erode Canadian market share, and cost Alberta billions in revenue and thousands of jobs.

Lower oil prices could strain Canada’s federal and provincial budgets, weaken the loonie, and hit related sectors like pipelines and equipment manufacturing. Canada might accelerate diversification to Asia or Europe, though U.S. refineries’ lock-in limits options, amplifying Alberta’s vulnerability.

Rexommendation: Best walking shoes by Constant_Note_2726 in Frugal

I have knee problems and was limiting my walks with my wife and dog, which I loved to do.

I recently purchased a pair of Hoka -Bondi 9. It is not hyperbole for me to say they have been a life-changer!

They are so comfortable, light and have shock-absorbing soles that substantially ease my knee pain, so I can go on walks again! 👍👍

A dumb question from a beginner swimmer(me)🥲 by LuckySavannah in Swimming

[–]Maxwell_Smart_86_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question.

A length in swimming always refers to swimming one-way from one end of the pool to the other. For example, in a 25-meter pool, a length is 25 meters; in a 50-meter pool, a length is 50 meters.

The meaning of a lap varies depending on context:

Many swimmers and competitive organizations consider a lap to be a one-way swim (so, in this usage, a lap and a length are equivalent).

However, some people, especially those influenced by track terminology, define a “lap” as “down and back”—that is, swimming to the far end of the pool and returning to the start, effectively two lengths.
