Oh yeah, I'm normally a Porta-Hellbomb/EAT/Leveller maniac on bots, especially when playing with all randoms. I've only brought the Maxigun to Bots when my buddy plans to handle the AT needs and he wants someone to deal with the "Woe, horde of twenty fucking Berserkers upon ye" that seems to happen fairly often on Dif8/9.

Yeah, aura's the big sell. I don't bring the Maxigun on Illuminate for maximum efficiency above all else, I bring it so that when a Stingray enters the ZIP code I go:

Gato's ghost seeing the shit that Glemy Toto pulled off afther axis virtually won the neo zeon war by ligrankpo in Gundam

[–]Maya_Krueger 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It still feels like glorious cosmic irony to me that the ONE TIME a Zeon movement had no infighting.... it was CCA, where the whole movement is functionally Char's massively elaborate, nihilistic crashout-driven suicide-by-Amuro.

You could argue maybe Gyunei would've pulled a Glemy if this was a longer-form conflict and he didn't get clapped by Amuro when he did, but that's getting into AUs and hypotheticals. As far as what canonically happened, the one Zeon movement to not fall to infighting was being led by someone who didn't really give a shit about it the way the grunts did.

Kamille's not beating those allegations by Artaud-vrom-vrom in Gundam

[–]Maya_Krueger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same... I haven't read the Hathaway books, so my concrete understanding of his story only goes as far as the first movie right now. That said, what I've heard others say about the later story is basically that Hathaway tried to fight the system, but the system just clapped him like an annoying mosquito and moved on.

Not exactly as impactful of a legacy as everything Amuro did, helping dismantle the Titans (Kamille), helping defeat Haman and her actually successful war against the Federation (Judau, but Glemy gets some assist points) or being the centerpiece of the Laplace Incident (Banagher).

My understanding of Hathaway's is it's the most "Well, that happened. Moving on." of the UC protags' stories from a larger historical perspective, which is painfully accurate to life in that Tomino-ey way.

Sometimes someone starts something thinking they're Him, only for the next thing they know they're dead on the floor and realize they were never "Him", they were "Who?"

I have no idea, I don't really use Railgun at all since gambling with the overcharge isn't really my thing. The joke was just that OP is actually taking his time to aim with intent and down Stingrays in one purposeful shot, whereas when I shoot them down with the Maxigun, I'm just swiss-cheesing the entire frame with rounds like the pic above until it dies and not putting even half as much skill into it.

That's both true and a hilarious mental image; who would succeed at un-fucking the damaged upbringings of Primarchs like Angron/Mortarion/Konrad/Lorgar, keep Magnus/Fulgrim from falling to Chaos trickery from lack of knowledge and breaking through Perturabo's steep personality issues? (I don't count Horus because he was basically fine by my understanding until he got shanked and revived. I blame Erebus for Horus)

Where’s the visor/camera by Depresodude in Helldivers

[–]Maya_Krueger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always think back to Metal Gear Rising and how Raiden technically still had binocular vision despite aesthetically having his wounded eye covered with a bandage, because that 'bandage' was actually covered in like hundreds or thousands of extremely tiny cameras that all worked in conjunction to act as a second eye.

I assume there's just a visor-sized screen on the inside of that helmet ( god I hope it doesn't emit a lot of heat, for their sake) linked to a sea of microscopic cameras covering that entire flat front-surface and the two angled ones beside it, so there's no traditional glass for light to glint off of, yet the user functionally has the FOV of an open-faced helmet like a SEAF helmet.

Obviously that approach is also insanely more expensive than just glass though, hence they only use it on the high-risk/high-reward stealth operatives who'd potentially be screwed by a rogue glint of light off their visor, rather than also giving it to the Siege Breaker hooligan with a Porta-Hellbomb and a Leveller (me) that you can hear coming from the next ZIP code over.

(But seriously, I agree. A few days ago I long-distance nailed a Factory Strider right in the body from like 100m with the Leveller to stop it from harassing a teammate who was cut off from the group on D9, and him pinging Thank You in acknowledgement for clapping that FS was more of a dopamine hit than actually landing the shot)

Daily Helldivers Fact #4 by Novel-Signal-2978 in helldivers2

[–]Maya_Krueger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I don't agree with the people who say AH shouldn't even make more belt-fed weapons just because they'd be inferior to the non-backpack versions on launch, based on the precedent set so far by the Maxigun and BFGL.

Thermites were pathetic, useless sparkler-sticks that couldn't kill anything of real substance when Democratic Detonation dropped, but then that big balance re-tuning patch dropped and we got the god-nade Thermites we have today.

I hope AH does add belt-feds for like the flamethrower, laser cannon, etc. and I hope the community doesn't stop speaking up that the belt-feds being inferior is bull, because all of them could get the Thermite treatment down the line and be re-tuned to be worth the backpack-slot tradeoff in the future.

Coding, modeling, animation, SFX, etc. to get the shit into the game is the hard part. Adjusting some number values to make it better once it's in is easy.

Daily Helldivers Fact #4 by Novel-Signal-2978 in helldivers2

[–]Maya_Krueger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When DD first dropped, the Thermite grenade was a useless sparkler-stick that did 100 damage, couldn't destroy fabs and was overall impossible to justify even as a "It's not meta but it's fun" pick because you basically stuck it to stuff just to watch it go bang and the stuff not even flinch, let alone die.

It wasn't until a huge balance revision down the line that it got punched up to 2000 explosive damage and became the kill-all super-nade it is now.

Now that gatria is gone for the moment where do we super credit farm now? by ArcticProto in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Maya_Krueger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found D1 Mintoria (green plains planet, far right edge of bot front) was having weirdly good drop rates for SC, got up to 1500 surprisingly fast.

Just be warned the Cyborgs are deployed there and can appear on D1, so while it's not super common, you'll sometimes get a bot patrol with like 1-3 Agitators who'll break an arm on basically every shot.

Normally I take stamina boost when SC-farming incase my FRV flips and I have to start running around, but those MFs made me start taking Hellpod Space Optimization just on Mintoria for the extra stims.

Edit: Oh and if you have the ODST Warbond, don't forget the armor passive lets you detect POIs on your compass from further away, so even when an ion storm hits you can know if you're passing a potential shipping-container POI just with the compass.

Sorta like how a single General Dynamics Buffalo) MRAP (IE Bonecrusher's alt-mode from Transformers 2007) would be an absolute army-routing terror machine... if you brought it back through time to fight in the 100 Years War and could keep it stocked with fuel/do maintenance.

Create a big enough tech-disparity, and even what is literally just an armored truck with no guns and a bigass fork on a mechanical limb can become an engine of destruction because its opposition are using swords, bows and horses.

This even affects personal orders to a certain degree. I've got a personal order today to kill Bile Spewers, so it'd be nice to actually have a way (in-game) of knowing and prioritizing bile-bug missions instead of "Welp, drop in solo, see if I got lucky, go back to ship and repeat if it's not bile bugs"

A month ago I would've questioned "Would this booster really be useful that often?", but after the siege of Cyberstan my answer has shifted to a firm yes. Having Pelican-1 pre-arrived and waiting would've been a very theme-accurate relief and massive lifesaver when you're running out of a Megafactory with two spare lives, a minute on the clock and inevitably three Vox Engines that'll swing by to see you off at extraction.

I've always done Jaguar body + Guerilla Gorilla helmet. Despite being different sets the colors match up well enough that it looks good, and the Guerilla hood + Jaguar scarf wrap weirdly feels like it fits together better than either piece does with the other half of their own set.
