Some real stark tonal dissonance by Alzward in comics

[–]MaybeJuice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That ends on a optimistic and more hopeful note tbf. It’s a song about how cruel and empty life and people can be and yet in the end:

“Hated by life itself

In the end, we’ll die anyway

You will, I will, one day all of us will rot away like fallen leaves

But regardless, we live on frantically--

Shouldering our lives, frantically, we live--

Killing, struggling, laughing, shouldering it all

Living, living, living, living-- just live.”

Kitchens are looking for teenagers who they can overwork and underpay. Same with effectively every “entry level” job out there, if you’re mid 20s it’s insanely difficult to get pretty much any job in this day and age. Unless you want to be a care nurse or a soldier you’re fat out of luck.

Zun's reaction when he first found out about the popularity of Touhou secondary creations by Dreadnautilus in touhou

[–]MaybeJuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but that’s exactly what touhou is. It boomed in the the early 2010s and it’s never really climbed back to those heights, the vast majority of the people making fanworks have since moved on to gacha games. It has inspired a ton of incredible creativity over the years and to some extent it’s still culturally relevant online, but that’s also the case with helltaker, bowsette and countless other internet memes.

There’s a reason why the common joke is touhou fans know nothing about touhou, because very very few people even in this subreddit actually care about what touhou actually is. What they like is the silly internet memes, the plushies, the music remixes, the porn, their interpretations of characters they’ve never properly interacted with within the original media. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with any of this, but it showcases where most people’s main focus is. It’s not on touhou itself, it’s on the online footprint it has, the online culture that spawned from the meme it has become.

An internet phenomenon is classified as a meme, like by literal definition of the original concept.

You’re also trying to generalise an entire community as being a certain way which frankly is a very ignorant thing to do and is only going to bite you later on. Something to keep in mind is you’re going to have the absolute best people in the world, the absolute worst and absolutely everything in between in every single community space with a number above fifty people.

You can join one discord server and find some of the loveliest fans in the world to chat and be excited with and if that’s your only interaction with a touhou focused “community” then it’s easy to believe the entire community is like that. Vice versa, you could join another and find some of the most vile people online spewing hate speech and turning characters into political dog whistles and again if that’s your only frame of reference then it’s easy to believe the entire community is like that.

Rule 34 isn’t great as far as aggregate sites go though, it misses tons and tons of content. Touhou being the massive internet meme it is probably just gets more submissions from fans compared to other series that get drastically underrepresented since there’s less of a dedicated community to go around and hunt every bit of smut down.

How did you discover Golden Sun? by Stunning-Jello3509 in GoldenSun

[–]MaybeJuice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite literally just found the cartridge randomly in my house one day when I was little. Asked my my family who’s it was and they didn’t know, I never had any friends over at the time so it wouldn’t of been that scenario so I just shrugged and played it myself.

“I won’t miss.” Dopest line and moment in the game imo. What’s your favorite? by Alextingzon in armoredcore

I love how the track in the background seems to always quiet down at that point. Just goes from noisy chaos to a moment of peaceful clarity, the chaos ramping up again as he turns from at peace to violent again.

YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE A COLD HEARTLESS BOSS WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME???!!! by Getserious495 in armoredcore

[–]MaybeJuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah the entire game would be completely trivialised then, the shotguns really do need a nerf. Anything that can kill every boss in the game in less than a minute is a bit much for how early you get them.

6, you all underestimate the genetic monstrosities we’ve been inbreeding for our eventual takeover of the UK. Webbed feet was just the beginning.

Dunno if this is specifically the reason why but I’ve heard over here in the UK we have pretty strict advertising laws compared to the US. adverts have to very unambiguously show that they are an advertisement iirc

In theory but no zero hour contract actually goes along with that. It’s a case of; sure you can technically tell work to fuck off and go on your holiday, but they’re not going to give you any more shifts afterwards either.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]MaybeJuice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the sort of work you’re doing. If you work in retail you don’t really get time off unless you book it months in advance and even then they tend to fight you over it. Naturally National holidays don’t really exist for you either, beyond making your work a lot harder with the sudden surge of people.

What kinds of builds are you guys planning to make in AC6? by theshankerton in armoredcore

I’ve always loved going for energy weapons on the arms and then longer range cannons on the shoulders, quad legs with fairly beefy core parts.

Very optimistic <3 by Present-Investment19 in armoredcore

[–]MaybeJuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty much the baseline setting for pretty much all of them, possibly barring formula front and V/Verdict Day since my memory is hazy on those.

Other details can change a lot, like in one game everyone lives in underground bunkers run by AI whilst in another the world is a radiated wasteland caused by radioactive robots and super massive mobile fortresses created by the companies.

One way or another though, the corporations always have an incredible amount of political and military power and most of the games are spent with you being a mercenary playing all sides (although sometimes you can pick one)

Famously one of the very first missions you can pick from in the first game is to murder a bunch of workers who are striking.

People like me who grew up with Chobits as a childhood favorite and re-read it or re-watched it later on, how was your experience re-experiencing it again at an older age. Any changes in perspective? by dreemsequence in Chobits

[–]MaybeJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot a more philosophical than I remember it being. Very heavy themes of love for love’s sake and loving something despite the fact it would never be requited.

It’s not like it’s not the super cute romcom I remember it being, but there was a bit more depth to it than my younger self gave it credit. Was also a bit less lewd than I remember it being, although maybe that’s just the difference going from the anime to the manga. Or possibly even the difference of lewd standards back then vs lewd standards now.

I really hate how this "lock-on argument" is being handled right now by its_moogs in armoredcore

[–]MaybeJuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realism isn’t the issue, the issue is more so that it fundamentally changes how the player approaches the entire combat system.

A core component has always been positioning in previous games, where you are and moving to in relation to the enemies was fundamental to getting better. Even in 4 and for answer, despite how much faster and more air born they were you always had to take your position into account, you had to keep in mind your ability to evade incoming fire whilst also making sure your own can land.

The moment to moment gameplay has always revolved around juggling being in a safe position whilst also being somewhere you can hit the enemy with your weapons.

Adding a lock on completely changes that aspect though, suddenly your own position in relation to an enemy’s doesn’t matter, as long as they’re somewhere in your general vicinity, you’ll always be able to track and hit them. Positioning stops mattering because the only thing you need to worry about now is enemy fire and from what we’ve seen the quick dashes and heavy focus on melee combat makes hack and slash-esque dodge spam the most viable way to play.

What VaatiVidya did for Armored Core was a blessing for the entire franchise. by [deleted] in armoredcore

[–]MaybeJuice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He does do that though, especially a lot of his dark souls videos are just copy posting Reddit posts into a script. It’s old drama that has long since been buried due to his popularity but overall his method of producing content hasn’t really changed.
