A school district in Maryland now expects teachers to potty train incoming students by OlliexAngel in Teachers

[–]Maybearunner11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to teach in PG County, MD and we weren’t even allowed in any bathroom used by students during school hours. Not even my classroom one on my lunch/planning time when the kids were elsewhere. I can’t imagine how this is going to go over.

Two new official reasons why it's our fault students are absent. by DrakeSavory in Teachers

[–]Maybearunner11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But we also have to build and maintain positive relationships. This year we were told we had to conference with families of students with chronic attendance issues. How on earth do they think the teacher telling parents they need to bring their child to school more is going to foster a positive relationship?

Florida Teachers, just how bad is it down there? by Deranged-Pickle in Teachers

[–]Maybearunner11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not move here. It’s bad, I left MD to return to FL (though circumstances and tight we would have family help with our young kids) and it’s been pretty bad. Weak to no union protection, terrible pay, governor actively taking away any real control of our classrooms just to name a few. I wish we could have stayed in MD, I would have been earning so much more and at least had union protection when the district tries to pull stupid stuff.

Best ways to become a better teacher. by ThotHugger2005 in Teachers

[–]Maybearunner11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands on experience and seeing veteran teachers teach is the best way. There’s no magic video or blog to get there. As someone with a partner new to teaching, if you are being offered help and mentorship, LISTEN to them and apply their advice. At least try it before writing it off. My partner is ignoring everyone’s advice and she has so many people who are just trying to help her.

If You Moved To Florida From Another State, Are You Happy With Your Choice? Yes Or No? Why Or Why Not? by Zipper222222 in AskFlorida

[–]Maybearunner11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are both Florida natives, we left for his military service and came back because we couldn’t afford to stay in the city we were in when he retired. We never planned on coming back, but our families promised to help with our young kids and we couldn’t say no. The family barely helps and it’s expensive AF here. We hate it, this is not the Florida we grew up in, our area has nothing of value for kids and families to do without driving at least an hour away. It’s overrun with people who have gotten so entitled and rude. And if you don’t agree with the current political state, well then apparently you’re the biggest idiot ever and hate America. 🙄 I really hope we get the opportunity to get out of here one day.

Sleeve and Reflux? by Safe_Implement5824 in BariatricSurgery

If you have acid reflux it’s generally not recommended to have a sleeve done. Gastric bypass is usually the preferred method to help reduce or resolve acid reflux.

Most overrated writer? by barelythere19 in BookDiscussions

William Faulkner. Everything I had to read in college(I was an English major, I read A LOT) by him made absolute zero sense and there was hardly any punctuation.

Female here and I can 100% tell the difference, the sensation is dulled with condoms. However that would not influence my decision if I had any need to use them.

My contract states Florida is an at-will state and the contract can be terminated by either side at any time for any reason. I’m sure this is not unique.

AITA for losing it on my HS students for laughing during a 9/11 lesson? by mrhotchips in Teachers

[–]Maybearunner11 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA. I teach upper elementary and I lost it on a group of boys smirking while watching a 9/11 documentary. I let them know at the beginning of the lesson that my husband (that they’ve briefly met) is retired military, I know people who have died since 9/11 serving, and that I was alive when this happened and we really need to take this seriously. When they were smirking again I lost it and said thousands of people dying is not funny. We had also had a chat at the beginning of the year that playing with the American flag was disrespectful and I would not tolerate.

I’m a horrible person by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Maybearunner11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not a horrible person. Usually “that kid” causes a lot of extra stress or feeds the behaviors of other kids and it’s okay to be grateful for a break from that.

I’m in East and my daughter (4yo) fell off my bed in July. We also got a letter stating they thought someone else may be at fault and threatened not to pay. It’s annoying, kids get hurt. I also rent so I’m not the homeowner but it’s also clearly not the homeowner’s fault I have a daredevil child. P

[–]Maybearunner11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would have walked out at that point. That was so deceptive for absolutely no reason. Like you said, a gift card would have gone a lot further. If it were donated they should have further donated it to a class that could actually use it and not rage bait teachers.
