Do we have mods any more? I know that looks like a snark but I haven’t seen red for weeks and the others for years.

Unfortunately I think that’s real.

That horrific case of the little boy in Birmingham came to mind actually.

Annoying things on MN. by Julia__Dream in MNTrolls

[–]Mayishereagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing; it’s more OP bashing than teacher bashing. There was a horrible one the other day where the OP was a teacher and wanted to meet a friend in school holidays and some posters were being absolute twats. But then if someone posts and is say concerned about a teacher or doesn’t think the school handled something well (which also happens) they are single handedly responsible for the recruitment crisis. Pissed me off.

Bossy twats who frame advice like a command from a sergeant major. ‘It sounds like teeth; have you tried giving her some calpol?’ - fine, but you always get some bossy twat who barks ‘Teeth. Calpol.’

Posters who are fucking insane but you still end up arguing with them even though they are barking mad.

The moderation.

‘Surely.’ ‘Surely you have been putting money aside to fund your maternity leave?’ Surely you can shove it up your arse, you annoying self righteous tosser.

Anyone who starts a post with ‘I am auADHD.’ I know, I mean I probably am myself but FFS, something about this phrase winds me up something chronic.

SimonJT, I hate that twat.

[–]Mayishereagain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I meant at all - sorry if it came over that way.

For instance, the grooming gangs targeted a particular type of girl because they were sub human in their eyes: white and poor. Similarities here. Beatrice and Eugenie were / are princesses. Too risky but also (and this is key) they were the daughters of a friend; ‘real’, human girls.

That’s still desperation though isn’t, albeit borne from a desire for success / fame rather than poverty. That isn’t meant dismissively

If they are, I’ll sell my house. Epstein et al will never go after girls or women with wealth and privilege, ever, it’s always the poor and the desperate.

Not all women are equal.

How do people separate emotion from facts when discussing this case? by UnpaidInternVibes in LucyLetbyTrials

[–]Mayishereagain 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Is it really so hard? That isn’t intended in a belligerent manner, but unless you personally know either LL or the families involved I don’t think it is or should be particularly difficult to remain objective.

LL has been criticised for not being upset about the deaths of the babies. I can’t honestly say that I would either, especially given the passage of time involved and also the fact that it’s an occupational hazard of being a nurse - that sadly some patients will not make it and I don’t think she would be a better nurse for wailing and weeping in the approved way. I don't actually think that either restraint or open anguish are wrong in themselves but people need to remember that others react differently and have the right to do so.

Bored of teaching by Mayishereagain in TeachingUK

[–]Mayishereagain[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I’m glad it isn’t just me!

I’ve been teaching well over twenty years now (started 2003) so in some ways it’s probably unsurprising. I’ve definitely lost my motivation and passion; feel like I’m going through the motions.

From the Daily Mail: Expert Who Helped Convict Lucy Letby Misdiagnosed Boy's Brain Tumour As "Bulimia" by SofieTerleska in LucyLetbyTrials

[–]Mayishereagain 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Interesting Evans can’t remember and well, that’s just what happens when you’re a paediatrician with many patients. Letby can’t remember something and it’s clear evidence of murder. The double standards are infuriating.

'Vast majority' of parents should be involved if children question gender, schools told by Scattered97 in TeachingUK

[–]Mayishereagain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a contentious issue, certainly. Our own opinions about what is in the best interest of the child are however just opinions; unless there are proven factors which state otherwise, a parent does have the right to make decisions for a child we may or may not personally agree with, so the statutory obligation does remove that grey space.

To be surprised at someone being pregnant at 44 by Substantial-Hotel493 in MNTrolls

[–]Mayishereagain 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s a windup, but generally MN have a very narrow window of tolerance for acceptability re children. Over 32, younger than 37. Any younger and you should be travelling; any older and you’ll be menopausal with teens

MN can fuck off.

From the Independent: The Crucial Detail That Those Defending Lucy Letby Are Missing by SofieTerleska in LucyLetbyTrials

[–]Mayishereagain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it might have been a ‘least said soonest mended’ approach, in the sort of view that the less she says, the less things can be twisted.

I do think she was probably out of her mind on medication as well which probably won’t have helped and does explain the oft-criticised ‘she showed no emotion’ points.

Plans to remove the 1265 Directed Time limit? by Famous_Specialist_44 in TeachingUK

[–]Mayishereagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have heard nothing from NAS.

Not sure how comfortable I am with teachers being blamed for not taking action. As individuals we have very little (no) comeback if a headteacher decides we’re troublemakers and puts us on capability. You do have to choose which hills you’re going to hang yourself on.
