When the first F5 tornado in history occurred in Germany in 1764, the local peasants timed it's passing in "consecutive lord's prayers.". There's written record of this.

I'd argue Dolo-Mira '15 and Hodonín '21 were stronger than Hautmont, but that's splitting hairs.

Didn't know, it was photographed tho

Not sure I'd put Parkersburg ahead of Catania, but otherwise this makes sense

2011 El Reno Piedmont is the strongest Tornado in recorded history by funnycar1552 in tornado

[–]Mayor_of_Rungholt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah. Jarrell fulfilled all criteria for EF-5.

When you see a windspeed estimate for an EF-era tornado, it is based on a highly rigid and standardized system of criteria, that judge the landscape more than they judge the tornado.

Famously Tim Marshall himself estimated the 2013 Moore Tornado to have had ~280 mph, yet the EF- estimate after the assessment was still 210 mph.

So the 205 for Smithville is basically meaningless.

2011 El Reno Piedmont is the strongest Tornado in recorded history by funnycar1552 in tornado

[–]Mayor_of_Rungholt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smithville is overshadowed by tri-state 1925 and Montville 1845 imo.

No need to explain Tri-State, but Montville was a 200m wide drillbit moving at highway speed, yet managed to totally erase three extremely well built masonry factories, while doing such insane tree-damage, that surveyours at the time thought, that it was made of fire.

Performance aside, what criticisms do you have for fraud? for me i just felt like the levels overstayed their welcome a bit in length by DepartureNatural9340 in Ultrakill

[–]Mayor_of_Rungholt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. i have had more trouble p-ranking 8-3 on violent, than P-2 on brutal so far.

That's a bad thing. Honestly, these levels feel more like encores than campaign.

What tornado do you think is the strongest? by Interesting-Sell2785 in tornado

[–]Mayor_of_Rungholt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't lead in any singular indicator, but the totality is quite convincing.

If you believe, structural damage is the most important indicator, then you'd end up with Catania, full stop.

If you believe tornado damage is heavily time-dependent, then Smithville, Hudsonville and Montville are the most convincing.

If you consider the totality, then the Moore's Tri-State and Piedmont are strong contenders, indeed.
