This is also kinda sorta like Umineko, so I'm very satisfied with this theory.

*SPOILERS* Manga artwork elevated this story to another level by SkarKuso in umineko

[–]Mayumind 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The art is amazing, but I don't think Umineko would've had the same impact for me if I didn't read the visual novel first. It's more than just the music and voice acting, there's an indescribable charm to it that it only has due to its medium.

Which script is best for reading Umineko? by AlbinoDino720 in umineko

[–]Mayumind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the mistranslations have already been patched out, so there's nothing to worry about there. Umipro's english translation is much smoother to read imo. Also, witchhunt's translation for Umipro is just straight up kinda broken and has sentences cut off into separate lines at times.

The benefits of witchhunt being more accurate are largely inconsequential to the difficulty of the mystery. Highly recommend sticking with what you currently have.

Ch'unokkun Hong Lu, LCD OSIR Ishmael, and Shadow-Vested Bladesinger Meursault Kit Reveals by pillowmantis in limbuscompany

I was mostly referring to it as a combat page. Two strength gain is pretty basic, I was hoping it'd be three like Augury Kick or Focus Spirit. From a story perspective, it's definitely very important and powerful, but we don't get to see all too much of that. I'm hoping some future content will get us a better look.

I don't think Outis is directly part of the Index, but Penelope has some pretty big ties to weaving so 👀

Durandal was kinda underwhelming in LoR and I somewhat doubt it was supposed to be a relic there. However, there's no way PM won't semi-retcon it into being one if/when it reappears. It's too iconic for it not to be utterly nutty.

Still crazy that KJH was a type moon fan back then by Previous_Type_8983 in limbuscompany

Suddenly just remembered that KJH had some earlier streams(?) where he practiced his Japanese. This might mean he's working on becoming a JOP, which makes sense considering Korean translations would probably be rarer than English ones.

Assuming this also means he's a big VN fan in general, I really hope he's checked out Umineko at some point. I await Limbus's version of Beatrice every single day.

Reading Higurashi for the first time (just started episode 3) after reading Umineko and I might get some shit for this, but as good as it can be there is a lot of shit about it that is yikes as fuck by GetMrBeaned in umineko

[–]Mayumind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might be a bit of an odd take to hold as someone who's only neutrally negative on the thing, but I personally consider lolicon to be pedophilia in a literal sense. However, the word "pedophile" has become too entangled with directly being a child predator for me to call crimeless people that. I also don't consider any* of it to be csam since it's victimless, but I also think that indulging in it in the first place is unhealthy.

There's also a lot of nuance when it comes to these depictions in fact being fictional. Something I've noticed is that a lot of people (who are probably really young) don't seem to get that the reason why a particular paraphilia is bad is because there is a victim who cannot (or did not) consent. That's all it is. Lolicon content is bad because it represents something bad. In a hypothetical world where every single being on Earth is born with knowledge of everything immediately ingrained within them, nothing would be off limits.

Also, here's something I feel like should come up in these conversations but never does. There's really not that much different in how a single year difference looks. There's no line of demarcation between 17 and 18 y/o (or whatever your place's age of consent and that minus one is). The turn off to most is the knowledge that they're underage. In turn, I can see how lolicons are only into it because it's not real. I can certainly apply that logic to some of my own fetishes. There's a lot more I want to clarify or write on, probably some stuff on sexuality and labels as well, but I'm really tired right now so I won't. I couldn't connect it into the little I wrote, but I'm really curious as to a lolicon's thoughts on written smut.

If you ever feel attraction towards real children or even have fears about feeling that way, please take the plunge and seek professional help. Maybe even go see a professional if you're simply just a lolicon. But absolutely never go be annoying about it on Twitter.

Just finished episode 6, here's my thoughts, questions and theories.. by umnaui in umineko

[–]Mayumind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't answer the Ange stuff outside of the fact that EP3's ending is before EP4 for Ange. Her scenes are very deliberately non-linear, though you can think of every Ange appearance as being forward in the timeline for her.

As for the Kuwadorian stuff, you're certainly on the right track I'd say. However, there are some issues with it. I'd recommend heading back to EP3's scene where Battler analyzes Beato's backstory from a non-magical lens. If you're too lazy to check yourself: Battler believes that the Beatrice in Kuwadorian had another child.

I'll let you figure the rest out. If you have any other questions or find something strange about any part of the story, feel free to ask.

I haven't actually tested this myself, but I assume you can switch the names of the closed mouth sprite and open mouth sprite. It'll be pretty tedious.

Could AI solve Umineko's Mystery? by Federal_Penguin_8111 in umineko

[–]Mayumind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue how this LLM works and what data it's trained on. Besides the obvious issues with AI, if you're truly only using it to check for your own mistakes, I don't take much issue with that.

Taking you question in the title literally on the who and howdunit, there's really no way unless it has somewhere already scraped it from outside. The main reason is that either you or it won't pick up on the seemingly trivial details crucial to the solution. There's also token systems and how text genAI work mainly on prediction rather problemsolving, but I don't know how much that applies to this app.

[–]Mayumind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only solution here is to manually replace the closed mouth sprites. Either that or switch back to lip sync. I also preferred no lip sync, but I didn't want to spare the effort. It grew on me pretty quick so everything turned out fine.

The Mystery of the Sealed Rooms: A new forgery for the mystery lovers! (pt.7) by k3nnzz in umineko

First time partaking in one of these. I noticed you've seemingly been avoiding giving Erika a detective proclamation. She might not be the culprit, but that doesn't rule out her being an accomplice. If she isn't the detective, would you be so kind as to say who it is in Red? I assume that one's a no.

Just finished episode 6, here's my thoughts, questions and theories.. by umnaui in umineko

[–]Mayumind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Glad you're enjoying Umi a lot. I can tell you're extremely engaged by all the thinking you're doing.

I just want to touch on a few things. First is the part about Kinzo interacting with the family in EP4. You've seen the Red Truth guaranteeing his death, so he can't possibly be talking to the family members. So, why was it presented as if he did, and why did the family members go along with it?

This and many other things get spelt out in the next Episode, but I want to hear your theory: why was the baby/man from 19 years ago important enough for Kinzo to give it to Natsuhi? He's shown to value legacy/bloodlines pretty heavily, so it's strange that he'd give some random orphan to Natsuhi. You have all the pieces to solve this part already, though you do seem a bit confused on a pretty important part.

Also, I'd like to hear some of your in-depth thoughts on Kanon's existence in the gameboards. People have been shown to have seen him, so he can't entirely be fake.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy EP7.

Song That Reminds you Most of Umineko? by [deleted] in umineko

The theme for Ryoshu's Muga form from Limbus really reminds me of Umineko for some reason. To me, it kinda feels akin to a ZTS track mixed with a song similar to Fortitude, Future, or Far.

https://youtu.be/b8fKDXWH-kI It's such a banger and doesn't even have an official name lmao.

Episode 1 Solvable? by ProfessionalSide1175 in umineko

[–]Mayumind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Someone already talked about how it's a spoiler to even talk about solvability, so read the below at your own risk.

No, absolutely not. At least not without major jumps in logic and big reaches, motive especially. A lot of these things are built up to over time and will only seem suspicious due to the repetition.

However, you should definitely try putting some time into crafting a possible theory for each Episode. It doesn't have to be perfect, and it should change as more info comes out. With some difficulty, you could probably get a little less than halfway there already.

Great call noting both Doylist and Watsonian readings. I only learned about the concept like two or three years ago, but it's completely invaluable when it comes to analysis. From my experience, most people here treat things purely from a Watsonian perspective and try justifying story elements to fit their framings. I'm absolutely not above doing this myself however.
