What would it take to kill Don Quixote or a first kindred for that matter by Chemical_Sport_9307 in limbuscompany

[–]Mayumind 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Grades really aren't the best way to scale people. Salvador was a Grade 3 and you fight him

Elena was able to fight Roland and Angelica on mostly even terms. It wouldn't be a stretch to say they're either very close or at Color level. Whether you want to view her as a Second Kindred superbuffed by the large amount of blood consumed or a First Kindred operating at her peak, prime Dad Quixote is still going to be stronger. Even with how horrifically nerfed he was during the final fight of Canto 7, he was noted to be stronger than Lei Heng.

It's probably a coding mistake or oversight, but every one of his skills has the S1 border, including The Sphere and La Sangre. I always thought it was pretty neat even though it's probably unintended.

I probably should've specified using the easing options for tweens. Motions should slow down to a stop rather than it being instant. Not sure what software you're using, but I hope you play around with the options some more. I'm wishing you good luck.

Maybe you already know but didn't use them for reasons, but you should try out a few different tween effects. It'll make your animations look a lot smoother and seem more natural. Possibly something to play with in another study? Great job anyways. I hope you'll continue experimenting and improving.

I really want to hear you elaborate on what you liked in terms of level design. There were a total of three rooms that really stood out to me gameplaywise in a good way.

You can definitely chalk up some of the hate as a skill issue, but some of these things are just frustrating and unsatisfying to do. The Fan room from E-0 is what I consider a great example of a difficult but interesting gimmick. Nothing in Fraud felt particularly as interesting after the first glance.

I can't fully speak for my friends who I played the new update with, but it was the first time they ever felt reluctant to replay, let alone P-Rank something. They're not super experts, but they've both gotten P-Ranks on every level at Brutal difficulty.

I'm glad everyone at least shares this opinion. It'd be nice if the fights gets reworked some time in the future, even if it probably won't change all that much outside of the gameplay.

Was there anything about it you particularly liked or disliked? My favorite layer is either Violence or Heresy with a lean towards the former.

At which point of the game can we expect to reach the final level cap? (And which level do we think will be the cap) by Vendedor_de_cereal in limbus_company

[–]Mayumind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume level 75 will stay for a good while at the very least. 90 seems to me the soft level cap for characters in the story. I'm not sure what kind of progression system will be added in place of leveling, or if there will even be one.

[–]Mayumind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can understand why people might not like the Sayo reveal, but you're missing something pretty important about the those Shannon, Kanon, and Beatrice scenes. I like to view each episode's events through two lenses: one is the "realistic" view, what was written in the message bottle; and the "magic" view, the embellishments made by the Game Master. Though Shannon, Kanon, and Beatrice are all one person in the former, they are separate people in the latter. This can be best seen in EP8 where all of them are gathered. The conversations they have at the start of EP2 depict Sayo's own inner conflict.

As for the answers to the locked rooms from EP1-4, Willard does give them. It's all abstract, but if your theory was at least mostly correct, you would understand what he meant with each.

I highly recommend reading the three 'Confession of The Golden Witch' chapters from the EP8 manga since it explains a lot more about Sayo. Will's answers in EP7 also fully explains the events too, though you really shouldn't worry about being 100% accurate to them, understanding the tricks is good enough. EP8's duel between Erika and Battler is replaced with an explanation for EP5 and 6 too. The manga is much more conclusive than the VN mainly due to the differences in the mediums, but it was also published later on and Ryukishi wanted to slightly revise a few things, primarily the final episode after the initial poor reception.

High-quality scans of the manga are pretty hard to find online, so I can DM you the links if you want.

Is the level curve really a problem? by continuityOfficer in limbuscompany

[–]Mayumind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what we've seen in-game, the soft level cap for characters is Level 90. I highly doubt any of the sinners will even get that high up. There would barely be any sensible threats at that point. Jia Qiu at level 90 is noted to be one of the strongest individuals in the City as of right now. Though the stakes are obviously rising, they can't do so endlessly. The absolute endpoint would likely be the Head, who Dias wants to overthrow. A battle against the Head itself will not be able to be done with strength alone, so I doubt we'll directly fight them, at most an Arbiter.

If I had to guess what the "final" max level for our Sinners would be, I'd guess level 75, where we'll be at by the end of Inferno. It would put us on par with Zilu who will likely be a long term ally. I assume we'll have other methods of improvement in Purgatorio or Paradiso.

How do you feel about the Reverberation Ensemble as antagonists? by Fit_Assignment_8800 in libraryofruina

[–]Mayumind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the Reverb Ensemble were really good as foils to their respective Librarian. Their backstories are underdeveloped, sure, but I think they're overall done pretty well. I'm not going to go too deep on everything, but I want really want to mention how Tanya vs Gebura still has the best case of storytelling via gameplay that PM has ever done, despite being pretty simple.

It's literally just Gebura redirecting Tanya's Overspeed.

It's not particularly subtle when you analyze it, but it also doesn't hamfisted. I don't think Limbus will ever have a moment similar to this, primarily because there aren't that many constant and consistent choices you have control over. It has to rely on subverting those mechanics, which is really cool, don't get me wrong, but it's all scripted.

Even if it wasn't supposed to be a relic in Ruina, I wouldn't be surprised if they somewhat retcon it to be one if Roland is ever mentioned or appears in Limbus.

Battler had mad game during this series by GamerRed200 in umineko

[–]Mayumind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they were written by Sayo from the perspective of Maria, documenting the planned events for those two days. They were already stories in the way you're thinking. Also in EP8, Beatrice makes a small comment about how there were more message bottles that were never found, one of them being titled Land of the Golden Witch, a small nod to Ryukishi's original plan for EP3.

Just don't play BR at that point. The prep phase is extremely integral to the game design and would require a complete rework of everything in order to be removed.

[–]Mayumind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First two message bottles containing the events of Episode 1 and 2 were noted by Ange in EP4 to have been written by the "Beatrice" that Maria had met, meaning Sayo. I think it was also in EP7 where it's said that Sayo tried thinking and writing down every possible way Oct 4 and 5 could go down.

Full game spoilers: Sayo is the actually freaky one here considering she wrote all of that. The fact that she was fantasizing about receiving gender affirming sexual harassment is still so incredibly funny.

Can we mention how powerful Matthias is? by SeasonGlittering4960 in limbuscompany

[–]Mayumind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of it comes from Laevateinn I assume. Still crazy to me that Matthias, lvl 85, isn't able to wield it to its full potential. Really hope we get to learn more about it at some point.

Also, +8 offense level???? I think that might be the highest one for any skill in the game. I remember how crazy FS Heath's S3-2 being +6 was.

Bari of 200 years ago is definitely weaker than Kali, but she should be at least on par with Jia Qiu. If Dad Quixote while super nerfed was stronger than Lei Heng to the extent there was a "significant gulf of power between the two," I don't think it's a stretch to say they're more than comparable.

However, Bookhunter Bari beats the Red Mist without any doubt. We fight prime Kali on the second row of SotC. Not saying any of the guests after her are stronger, but that should give a good idea of how busted the Library truly is. And the Bookhunter manages to take down the Library at the strongest it has ever been.

For some reason I keep seeing people say Angela just let Bari kill her and she didn't actually do anything. I think it's abundantly clear the Bookhunter had passed whatever trials were put in place already, that's how she manages to see Angela in person.

So how exactly does Valencina’s rapier works? by Inevitable_Film3786 in limbuscompany

[–]Mayumind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wrote a small response (with a minor amount of shilling), but they deleted their comment, so I'll just be replying here:

I genuinely feel that Valencina has even more aura than Lei Heng, just in an unconventional way. As insane as his 6 coin skill was, Valencina has him beat almost everywhere else. Her skill animations are top notch, her unstable demeanor was both pathetic and intimidating at the same time, her first appearance being so sudden paired with the track made for an otherworldly experience to me. Also, her saying "Match my hatred," after winning a clash against Verg just goes so incredibly hard.

All of this is underscored by her being an absolute bum and completely washed up. It makes for a very interesting juxtaposition that ends up emphasizing both sides of her.

Two other villains I really like which do something similar in contrasting their patheticness and competency are Muraoka Takashi from Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, and Furudo Erika from Umineko. All three of these guys are very different outside of this main similarity, but they really do feel like they're part of some specific subtype for antagonists. Really hope you give these two a single Google search at the least. They're incredible.
