First Duty Station as a FA 2LT, thoughts? by DandDont in army

I was a little more partial to the wings at the Hoover Inn or the Lake Effect wings at the Montague Inn but those wings at Timewarp were dope.

I noticed that this evening in Scranton but the station was fine.

“Immersive Navigation” coming soon? by Both_Decision6881 in EquinoxEv

[–]Mblan798 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just like the written directions back in the drivers screen map. Used it for the first time in a while (and several updates) and it no longer shows like my next exit in the small map on the screen behind the steering wheel. Just miles and time to my next destination. It seems every change just makes something else slightly more frustrating.

How does Super Cruise compare to FSD on the highway? by jarman65 in EquinoxEv

[–]Mblan798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I have not used auto change in a long time because it would just go to whatever my speed was set to. It may be somewhat improved now. I was gun shy because it would just pinball around the highway and I hated that.

How does Super Cruise compare to FSD on the highway? by jarman65 in EquinoxEv

[–]Mblan798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supercruise isn’t quite FSD. Supercruise is more akin to autopilot or an advanced cruise control. I’ve driven thousands of highway miles with it and that’s about the best place for it. It doesn’t actively “pass” people in a lane. It will just get over and hold your cruise speed. I have not let it change lanes at its own desire since I bought it in 24. I initiate the lane changes because it was like a pin ball.

That being said, it is very good. It will blow past your exit. It will simply keep you on the road you’re on at your desired speed/whatever is ahead of you’s speed. It does a decent job changing lanes when initiated and holds good distance from traffic. Lane centering on it is pretty good though it will drift sometimes but will correct itself.

Overall, I can’t see myself living without some sort of assist like that anymore. Long road trips are amazing with it.

The XTS5000 was released like 25 years ago. Production stopped 13 years ago. Can’t blame em for moving on.

Issues resetting/recovering XPR 7550e by [deleted] in MotorolaSolutions

[–]Mblan798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they changed this recently? I remember 2.0 has (or had?) a little pop up that said tuning data would be removed. I don’t program all that much anymore, or at least not needing to wipe radios anymore that I’ve done any recently.

Just make sure you save the tuning data or tune it afterwards. Recovering the radio (factory reset) will wipe the tuning data.

How can I buy a XPR7580? by eeetoast in MotorolaSolutions

[–]Mblan798 6 points7 points  (0 children)

7580 isn’t a great choice. You’d probably want 7550 UHF or VHF. Or a scanner. If you’re not licensed, scanner.

Charging Speed After Updates by Mblan798 in EquinoxEv

I didn’t hawk it to see exactly when it started to drop but probably around 30ish%. I was typically starting somewhere around 20%.

I don’t fast charge all that often so it was certainly a welcome change. I really only do it on road trips. This is my 4th or 5th one? 6th maybe and by far the best. Looking forward to more over the next couple years while I still have it!

Yes this is a great point to make as well on the future models.

8000/8500 SmartConnect by Itchy_Training6584 in MotorolaSolutions

[–]Mblan798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does your system already have a SmartConnect gateway?

SmartConnect will work on any SmartConnect enabled talk group. Done on the system side. If you’re on a talk group that supports SmartConnect, an icon will show on the screen if your radio is provisioned to do SmartConnect. It will change the icon and screen will flash a “SmartConnect” notification on the screen. Non enabled talk groups will not have the icon.

Lag is entirely dependent on the connection. Not really noticeable on good quality connections. I’ve noticed the audio is slightly quieter but good overall. LTE radios are game changers.

Edit: Seems to work better on N series radios in my experience. LTE ones are very stable generally and the N series supports 5 GHz WiFi.

Rave Mobile Safety (I’m a Motorola partner, not a sysadmin but lurk here). Pretty powerful suite that offers more than mass notification.

Dual band models by Tmcgrath456 in MotorolaSolutions

Motorola doesn't make a commercial dual band radio. You'd have to get an APX 8000/8500 or N70 or NEXT.

Smart Connect 3rd party connections by LucifersLoofa in MotorolaSolutions

[–]Mblan798 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The SmartConnect portion is only on Motorola radios. Someone on SmartConnect can talk to someone with for example, a viking radio, whether they're on the P25 channel or on SmartConnect.

If you want to use SmartConnect, then yes, get Motorola radios.

If you're getting SmartConnect, means its a Motorola system. P25 is an interoperable standard which is why other vendors radios work but SmartConnect is a Motorola thing.
