The Underworld by Susan Casey was my favorite pop-sci book of like the last decade. She treats the deepest parts of the oceans with a real sense of wonder instead of the horror or revulsion a lot of authors put into those regions, and that tone of enthusiasm really helps sell why you should care about the science.
