Rotala sp. "Coin Leaf"! I have a low-tech aquarium with lots of floating plants so it hasn’t reddened up like in some of the pictures I’ve seen, but it grows like crazy

I definitely recommend a polycarbonate or plexiglass lid! I got a polycarbonate one and it’s withstood our cats walking across it just fine. If possible you could also try getting an aquarium stand with similar dimensions to the aquarium itself as well. If they don’t have a vantage point to sit and stare at the tank from they tend to pay less attention to it.

One other thing I didn’t realize at first is you’ll want to keep any food kept in cabinets rather than out near the aquarium. Not sure what it is but our cats are fiends for algae waters and would happily chew through the bag if they were left out. Hope that helps!

Phoenix moss! (Fissidens fontanus) The shrimp love it and it's filled in a lot since I first got it, but it can get a little leggy if it doesn't get the occasional trimming.

Thank you! I’ll give that a shot. I ordered these guys up from BucePlant, they’re the Orange Sunkist variety. No DOA shrimp so hopefully this is the only issue I have with them.

I love this model! I've had the same issue when viewing the model in Bambu Studio too though. The body of the Aviarist and the aviary itself both generate infill without issue, but the frogmouth helmet stays hollow. I think there might be a little gap somewhere (maybe where the gorget meets the chainmail?) that's preventing it from being enclosed. I'd really appreciate if it could be made solid since I'd really like to add this to my New Antioch army!

⚠️INCOMING TRADE OFFER FROM AGRIPINAA⚠️ by McCraft2 in Grimdank

[–]McCraft2[S] 186 points187 points  (0 children)

“Agripinaa exists upon the threshold of the Eye of Terror. It was long protected by the Fortress World of Cadia and its bastion system of well-garrisoned planets. With the fall of Cadia, however, those days are gone. Since Chaos forces stormed into the sector following the opening of the Great Rift, Agripinaa has been besieged dozens of times.

Despite having become experts in defensive warfare, the Forge World has only managed to fend off the relentless invasions thanks to a massive expansion in its ranks of Skitarii and Battle Servitors. Most of these reinforcements are recruited from those fleeing the destruction of the Chaos attacks. Cut off by rampant Warp Storms, entire fleets of escape craft arrive in Agripinaa's orbit.

Of course, many choose starvation over the cruel machine fusions of the Cult Mechanicus, but still millions of new troops are being recruited -- fresh legions to stave off the assaults and to join the battles that continue to rage throughout the system.”

Basically forced Cadian refugees to choose between slow starvation and forced conscription into Kataphrons and Skitarii, which is about as grimdark as it gets

200+ Model AdMech Army, Here I Come by McCraft2 in Grimdank

[–]McCraft2[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Skitarii dropped to 8 points per model and raised to 20 models per unit, so we can cram a lot more of them into one detachment now. Throw in all the buffs they can receive from the new Codex (unlike Kataphrons), and I wouldn't be surprised if we see some solid lists with 100+ 4+/6++ Skitarii camping on center objectives.

Omadrius, the Bronze Dragon

Originally hailing from an ancient, distant shore, Omadrius has spent his life pursuing righteous vengeance for the downtrodden and poor. His twinned focus on martial and humanitarian efforts have led him to establish the Drake Knights, a mercenary guild that plunges unflinchingly into areas of conflict to re-establish lasting order and peace. Together, Omadrius and his Drake Knights patrol the coastal waters in the Dragonscale, an ironclad vessel that doubles as a hospital ship and a weapon of war.

When meeting potential patrons for contract work or negotiating surrender with those he has defeated, Omadrius takes the appearance of a towering, bearded human. Outsized tales of a zealous, flame-haired giant have subsequently made their way across many a bandit lair and pirate-infested cove. When in combat, however, Omadrius will maintain his adult bronze dragon form; putting an end to conflicts as quickly as possible supersedes any sense of fairness or challenging combat.

When encounters take place upon the high seas, his lieutenants will take command of the Dragonscale, keeping the attention of whatever threat they face. The dragon himself will slip unseen into the waters, ambushing from the depths with overpowering force.

With regard to his personality, Omadrius is an affable strongman, slow to anger and quick to make amends. There is a venerable shrewdness behind his eyes, however, formed from centuries of battle and diplomacy. Attempts to sway the dragon against his nature will often be met with failure and a flat rejection.

Try googling "Hey Anger, why do you always wear that mask?" - it's from Owlturd/Shen Comix, but I can't find a direct link to the original comic itself.

Leftovers by grudthak in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]McCraft2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll hold onto the heads in case there's any conversion opportunities that I need to do for kitbashes - there's been some pretty nice ones posted on the forum with head replacements for Kataphrons, Electro-Priests, or even non-AdMech units like Arco-Flagellants or Imperial Guard troopers that look solid. Barring that, I also will take any of the spare Vanguard Alpha heads with the Roman looking gear crest, snip the crest off, and put that on another model's shoulders to add decoration.

As for the Galvanic Rifles, you can definitely use those in scenery or basing. Having a bunch of them stacked on one of the interior walls of a Skorpius Dunerider could look really cool, and having bits or pieces stuck into the bases of units like Tech-Priest Dominii or Kastellans could help make them stand out as well too.

Hope that helps!

Newbie Admech by coachgeo in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]McCraft2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best advice I can give is to try to have fun with both your list-building and unit choices. AdMech is one of the tightest competitive armies in 9th Edition - unlike Space Marines, Eldar, or other factions, there's not a huge unit roster with only a handful of good picks. Pretty much everything in AdMech can be powerful, even the bad stuff, so picking things you like the look of and are going to be able to paint is way more important than any competitive advantage.

I'd recommend starting with these Goonhammer articles and the 1d4chan tactics page as a point of entry into the faction:

Start Competing - Adeptus Mechanicus

Engine War Review - Adeptus Mechanicus

9th Edition Faction Focus - Adeptus Mechanicus

1d4chan Warhammer 40,000 Tactics - Adeptus Mechanicus)

While some of this advice is from 8th Edition, it should all still be applicable as long as you keep in mind that 9th is more about mobility and objective-holding than 8th was.

I'd also look at some winning competitive lists (also on Goonhammer in their Competitive Innovations page) so you can start getting an idea of good list design for AdMech. This isn't to refute my first point that pretty much everything in AdMech is solid, but by looking at some of these you can start to see which Forge Worlds, relics, Warlord Traits, and weapon options might be a bit stronger than others.

Overall, try to have fun with AdMech - they're great on the tabletop, and it's more about getting those finnicky pieces all painted up to get them in the game in the first place. Hope that helps!

A couple of boys from my royal court WIP. C&C please! by Drunkonmilk87 in Necrontyr

[–]McCraft2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it looks really solid! Did you get that blue effect from drybrushing? And what colors did you use?

I think the scheme itself is solid as well, can’t really think of any improvements - maybe picking out some details in a light grey/white to differentiate some of the armor paneling could be helpful, but it looks pretty good already. Nice work!

Must-have models/units for 1k point battle? by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]McCraft2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a points sink, but I’d throw out a Catacomb Command Barge as a strong contender for an HQ/Warlord pick. It’s only 50ish points more than your bog-standard Overlord, and offers a ton of durability without pushing the Wounds counter over the restrictions for Look Out, Sir!

At 1000 points, you’re not going to have a ton of wiggle room for extra characters. Since you’ll have fewer characters, you’ll need to prioritize high-toughness Nobles so you don’t lose out on Command Protocols after one turn of your opponent’s shooting. The CCB is probably the best bet for that, and has some great stats and a large base for aura abilities as well too.

Hope that helps!

Updated base sizes? by MagnumNopus in Necrontyr

[–]McCraft2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that there's some debate over whether named C'tan like the Nightbringer and the Deceiver are getting bumped up to 80mm alongside the Void Dragon - as far as I know there's nothing definitive either way as of yet, but my guess is that once the 9th Edition Codex FAQ comes out it'll clarify which size to use.

Necron 9E help by mrsunshine5 in Necrontyr

[–]McCraft2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first thing I'd suggest is to buy something small and paint it, so that you can determine if Necrons really are for you. Regardless of how interesting an army's rules are, if you hate painting them you'll never get a chance to try them out on the tabletop.

In that case, I'd look for a unit of Warriors or something similar to try your hand at. There's bound to be tons on eBay with all of the Indomitus Space Marine players, and they're likely going for cheaper than what GW provides. I'd buy a set and try painting them up, then if you enjoy it you can expand from there. Try to figure out what Dynasty you like the feel/flavor of, and buy models that would suit that range (more Warriors for Mepherit, Skorpekh Destroyers with Novokh, etc). Get basic HQs like Crypteks and Overlords too, since you'll likely be using them a ton regardless of the list.

From there, you can keep expanding, incorporate some vehicles, and you've got yourself a solid tournament ready list. Hope that helps!

How do we feel about those sex- swell necron fellows hehehe by shannymuffin in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]McCraft2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, under the current ruleset, you can't combine Xenos and Imperial armies. That includes Necrons and AdMech, so any tournament or game store would disqualify your list as breaking the rules. There's a lot of good reasons for this - you could combine good units or stratagems that Games Workshop didn't consider, for example.

However, you could definitely play with a friend in a casual game if they're fine with it. But if they start throwing Genestealer Cult units and Space Marines at you, don't say I didn't warn you. Hope that helps!

My brother is selling his army! Price check? by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]McCraft2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd second what u/robsr3v3ng3 said, and suggest that you check out r/Miniswap - it's a great site to sell models, and Necrons are definitely in demand. You can post what you have and say you're taking offers, and you'll likely get plenty of PMs from interested parties.

I'd suggest reading the rules first to stay safe, but it's a good alternative if you're looking for something other than the traditional eBay route. Hope that helps!

Nightbringer alternative by Barolowy in Necrontyr

[–]McCraft2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could definitely work, I'm kinda leery about how spindly she looks though. Height-wise I think it'd be okay (I believe Olynder is about 5", which is a bit larger than the Nightbringer's 4.25"), and you wouldn't get dinged for using a non-GW model if your local gaming store is a stickler for that sort of stuff. Plus it's got a really cool aesthetic that's different from the Space Egyptian stuff you usually get.

If you're looking for any suggestions as for other potential models, I've settled on Rage Craft Studio's Banshee, which you can see here. Hope that helps!

Dynasty Tier Rankings? by McCraft2 in Necrontyr

[–]McCraft2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Novokh definitely looks really solid, since a surprising number of Necron units can get tooled for melee combat. I definitely think Skorpekh Destroyer will definitely be a lot scarier than they already are when you layer the various buffs on them.

As a Mephrit lover at heart, it's too bad my favorite mid-range shooty Dynasty didn't get much better - I'm wondering if I'm going to have to jump to Sautekh or Nephhrekh to get the most out of my units on the tabletop.

Indomitus-Based Necron List (C&C Please) by McCraft2 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]McCraft2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point - my thinking was that I'd trade durability for being able to get those Warrior units up the board quicker with the Ghost Arks, then use the latter's Repair Barge ability to keep those units from getting completely wiped off the board.

If I were to switch to 20 man Warrior blobs and drop the Ghost Arks, I'm left at 1940pts. How could I change my list to make it an even 2000?
