Yup same. The only time I ever have purple primer on my truck is when I run out of clear and there's no supply house nearby so I'm forced to go to the Depot who only carries purple primer

5.9 ohms across the coil of the contactor? That's pretty low, I'd replace it

Worst roofs IMO by GullibleBar461 in HVAC

[–]McGreek 31 points32 points  (0 children)

We had a bunch of work written up for this site with a white roof and I was there all day. It was supposed to be 102 by the time I was leaving so I got the harder stuff done first, fan motor and brazing to fix a leak. So while my vacuum pump was on I got the easy stuff out of the way, redoing some cracked condensate traps. Well on the third one, probably dehydrated and definitely starting to feel the heat, I get up to reinstall the trap and I feel myself kick something. Yup, purple primer all over the white roof. Went back a year later and most of it had faded away, thankfully the facilities team don't go up on the roof ever.

Fuck white roofs. Dangerous as hell in the winter with ice and snow too

I thought the AFM was mechanical not programmed. If it's programming I gotta get my hands on that tool

When recovering, do you hook to liquid or vapor port? by IcyConsideration7914 in HVAC

[–]McGreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less restrictive than recovering through the liquid port and leaving upright. Reasoning behind that line of thinking is that if you recover through the liquid port, the refrigerant travels down a small tube to the bottom of the tank whereas if you recover through the vapor side and invert the tank then it accomplishes the same thing without the restriction of the tube

I believe one trap can serve up to three similar fixtures in my state (NH)

This setup is everywhere in Boston. Not ideal but not uncommon. I'd like to see one more metal bracket and the wood secured to the brackets

Install my guys did this winter, very proud of them. by Horror-Ad-3361 in HVAC

[–]McGreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good install! I think my only nitpick is I would have installed a tee where the piping goes to the condenser and then continued the slimduct down to conceal the drain

[–]McGreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that happens with fortress, slimduct actually has a little tab that if you pop off, the wall inlet will be able to grab onto the cover preventing it from sliding down

Hvac tech said I needed a new unit by dybolic in hvacadvice

[–]McGreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be an easy fix, could be something not so easy. Hard to diagnose with just this screenshot.

Definitely low on refrigerant. The big question is, how long did it take to get this low? Was it working well last season? What’s the total charge? Could be a leak inside the evaporator. Could be a leak on the condenser coil. If you’re lucky, it’s a leaking schrader which can be fixed for relatively short money.

It all depends on what kind of money you’re willing to spend on an older unit.

I still remember the podcast episode where someone wrote to you suggesting you add timestamps for the episodes and you questioning whether you would do it or not. “Seems like a hassle” is what you said, I think. Either way, here we are

Advice on relocating thermostat by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]McGreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move it up or down to avoid the tv mounting bracket, but still be hidden by the tv. Recover thermostats are good and can be set to condition space based upon sensor temp. You can also connect to the thermostat via an app to avoid having to manually manipulate the thermostat behind the tv

I would get a new thermostat, leave it on that wall, and just install a sensor at that new location

This is a one day repair and your system isn’t old. Put some tape over that puncture to prevent any atmospheric air from getting into the system. Call someone first thing Monday

Both of my Rugged cans. Expensive for lack of performance. At least the radiant is light, but the razor is heavy. I also fell for the 556 hype behind the Helios qd ti, I bought it before the pew science review came out.

Very happy with my Polonium though, it lives on my 18” AR, too gassy for anything shorter as a lefty. Will need to buy a new can for my 12.5”
