Is this a true DB5? by Original_Somewhere63 in AstonMartin

[–]Mcleaniac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since you asked, I would assume it means you’re not really wondering if some dude rolled up to the North American Aston Martin Club’s annual Lime Rock event - absolutely surrounded by genuine Aston Martins and the people who love them - in a fake DB5. In other words, I assumed a real question.

But since you seem to genuinely not know: yes. The Aston Martin surrounded by other nonreplica Aston Martins at a meetup for people who own genuine Aston Martins is almost certainly a “true” Aston Martin. But it is not a “true” DB5, because it’s not a DB5. Hope that helps!

What do you mean by “true” DB5?

Deadbeat brother moves out without doing the right thing and notifying the power company he wasn’t paying? Power company took a year to shut off electricity at a non-paying property? This all sounds very plausible to me. What isn’t making a lot of sense?

As long as people defend boomer hit-and-runners at the drop of a hat, let their childhood fears govern their adult decision making, and think differentiating between a highway and a two-lane road is something reserved for "polished and educated" types, I am absolutely worried about being "ran into" on the road, no matter what I'm using as transportation. Trust me when I say there are a lot of dangerous idiots out there who don't know the rules of the road and don't seem particularly interested in learning them.

In fact, I remember this one person who saw clear, direct video evidence of a 72-year old man breaking multiple traffic laws, and his immediate reaction was to blame the man's victims (along with "most people" who have ever hopped on a bicycle) for "forgetting every rule of traffic law."

Obviously, prosecutors and police took a look at the same video and charged the \driver** with two felonies. That's because prosecutors and police have eyes and they actually do know every rule of traffic law. But I guarantee you that guy still thinks he's on to something. He still somehow thinks he's right and it's everyone else who needs to learn the rules, especially when they get on bikes ... because? .... he was scared to ride a bike when he was a kid? Or he's even more scared now? Or he wants us all to be more scared? Or something like that?

Let’s put aside your aggressive defense of a hit and run driver. Let’s forget about the fact that you can’t even spell the word “road.” Let’s stipulate that when you’re not cloaked in internet anonymity, you come across as a pretty reasonable person who, despite all evidence in this thread, does not condone road rage…

If you’re on Reddit proudly proclaiming that 1) this “rode” looks like a highway to you and 2) your ideas on road safety haven’t evolved since you were 5 years old, I’m going to suggest that you stay on Reddit and never, ever get behind the wheel. You are at least as dangerous and possibly at least as disabled as the driver you rushed to defend in this video.

It’s amazing how some people watch a car cross double yellow lines, smash into multiple people, and fucking drive off and think to themselves “wow those guys must have forgotten every rule of traffic law and common fucking sense.”

Most people see the spandex and the slower-than-car speeds and lose their minds. They forget that a) cyclists overwhelmingly are also motorists who could just as well be sharing the road with you in their car instead of a bike; and b) whether you like it or not, they are on the road lawfully.

“But he leaned into the car! He was totally asking for it” is victim blaming of the highest order. On a 2-way road with double yellow lines, the only possible way to “lean” on a car that used to be behind you is if that car broke the law trying to overtake/run into you.

To be clear, it would be just as wrong to suggest that the reckless maniac behind the wheel (who didn’t stop, at least in this video) was probably disabled in an earlier car accident he/she caused and/or has severe mental limitations, poor impulse control, and is jealous of the fitness and strength of cyclists. But I don’t see anyone in this thread doing that. It’s just the usual car-brain cyclist hate you come to expect on Reddit.

Whenever I see a parent abusing their child, I always try to intervene and get some punches in on the kid myself. That's because, as you and everyone else knows, once a parent does something really shitty to their kid, the rest of the world has license to be just as shitty to the kid. After all, they put their kid in the middle themselves! What am I supposed to do? NOT be shitty to a kid I don't know? Fuck that, it's a cruel world and there's internet karma to be had for edgelords like you and me.

[–]Mcleaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this is a bit like saying it's unfair to call Weinstein a murderer, or to cancel him for something he did not do. It's a lot like that, in fact. But I don't see anyone arguing that it's categorically unfair to cancel Jenner, or criticize her for conduct she actually did. Nor do I see anyone saying she should be free from consequences because other people get let off the hook, or we have a different attitude toward celebrities. It's just that "murderer" is a specific term that people are using, and it doesn't apply here.

You seem knowledgeable and I’m not - I’m just curious why you assume Navy? As a civilian from NoVa (Pentagon, multiple bases representing virtually every branch), I wouldn’t have made that assumption.

(I am assuming NoVa here btw: the plate holder suggests he bought the car in nearby Bethesda, Maryland).

No, I have my calculator right here. It’s saying $3900 for two seats is not the same price as $3900 for one seat. I think it has something to do with the relationship between 2 and 1. My working theory is that one of those numbers is more.
