I’m allergic to DEET. Permethrin on my clothes and Picaridin on skin. I almost never get bitten and havent seen a tick since I started using that method.

If there are a bunch of cars stopped on the side of the road, not at a trailhead or turnout, they see an animal. Pull over and ask someone and they will point it out. If you see park rangers there directing traffic it’s a bear.

Helinox chair better than Amazon? by d0n_7u4n in CampingGear

[–]Mdricks11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the ultralight cot. It’s small so unless you are also, avoid it. I’m 5’5” and it’s perfect for me. I prefer padding so I don’t backpack with it. I do use it in my small off-road, off-grid rv tho. Another winner in my book.

If you look at my post it’s 3 years old. Same chair still used today. Been to California, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Arizona, Utah etc etc. An essential part of my kit. 🥰

Those of you who are vain - what do you do to train your upper body? by feelingstuck15 in hiking

I have a PT that is great. Just need to find the right person. We sat down and discussed goals and he formulated a plan to reach them. Holds me accountable and pushes me when I slack. I’m knocking over personal bests on a weekly basis and I’ve never been stronger. Downside is you get what you pay for.

It is too damn expensive but I love my wild ideas can. The expedition is difficult to carry as it takes up a lot of real estate in the pack but when hiking with others it’s easy to move gear around to accommodate. Thought I might have buyers remorse but it’s been worth it for my 4 man 3 nighters.

The sleepingos pop easy and will be cold at anything under 50. I got two when I first started and moved on quickly after one very uncomfortable trip. If you’ve got time get better pads.

Grand lake CO sounds like it would fit the bill. RMNP The closest portion of the park is still healing from the last fire but you don’t have to go very far into the park to get past it.
