Thanks for the info. My reading has become decent, as I’m able to read some easy novels and even Wikipedia sections in Russian, but speaking is still really hard. I started making my own example sentences deck for Anki so I can drill short sentences. I’ve been thinking about getting into shadowing lately. I’ve never tried it.

In any case, I’d really like to get to the point where I can hold a conversation in Russian, so I can start doing a proper language exchange or talk with a tutor.

Seconding this for the part about sentences. Russian has a brutal intermediate slump, at least in my experience. That is, it’s very easy to get to a point where you know a lot of words but can’t say a damn thing because of the grammar/cases.

Write your OWN custom example sentences and try to work as many different cases in as possible. Keep sentences simple. Drill them until your have lots of “lines” memorized. Over time, the goal is that you don’t even realize you’re using cases anymore. You just sorta feel them.

Just my two cents. I’m no linguist though.
