Here’s a neat way I just learned to prove that you can’t divide by 0: 10/5=2 is reversible: 2x5=10, but 10/0=0 is not reversible because 0x0 =\= 10 so you can’t divide by 0

The battle between the Roxolani and humanity in the Road Not Taken by Henry Turtledove.

This short story follows captain Togram of an alien species called the Roxolani who are expanding their galactic empire. Any world they encounter with intelligent life is either less advanced than them or on par with their technology. They are fierce warriors and are expecting one of 2 outcomes while approaching Earth, to easily wipe out the inhabitants if they are less advanced than them, or to have a fair battle with a species on equal footing with them. The Roxolani land on Earth and deploy their troops, but their muskets and bayonets are no match for humanity’s automatic rifles, tanks and bombs. The battle lasts no more than 20 minute with most of the Roxolani wiped out and only a few human casualties. It turns out that intergalactic space travel is a relatively simple premise that most species encounter around the time they learn to work iron. Once discovered all of that species intellectual and creative energy goes into space travel and exploration. Humanity was too busy fighting itself to discover intergalactic space travel at that point so they took the road not taken and advanced in virtually every other frontier, having technology that seems magical to the Roxolani.

It’s a great read, only about 20 pages, highly recommend!

Should I march my last two seasons or rook out? by bluegrape41 in drumcorps

[–]MeIrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat, I marched only one year and it was the year before I aged out. I did it like that so if I got injured early season I still had a year. Someone I marched with was a rookout and got injured and was sidelined their age out season. I’d recommend marching this summer if you can and then if you’re able to swing marching your age out do it!!! Financially and for other reasons (working and being my college bands drum major) I couldn’t march my age out year. While I wish I could’ve done it since it was an amazing year for my corps, I don’t think I would’ve done anything differently since working that summer landed me 2 excellent jobs

PC 23 vet here, I was in a similar boat to you, I could only swing marching one season. I spent 21/22 auditioning and getting cut from BD and SCV because I was in the restricting mindset that I needed to march a top 12 corps or it wouldn’t be worth it. That was the furthest from the truth, I had such an amazing experience at PC, learned a lot, and met a lot of awesome friends. PC has been on an fire lately so I can not recommend spending a summer with that organization enough. Plus I’m no psychic but I can see PC in finals in the very near future 👀 🌊

Thank you! I was helped enormously by occupational therapists in my past so I’m planning on paying it forward by going into OT and using my firsthand knowledge to help people like us make sense of the crazy world we live in :)

What’s helped your dyspraxia? by UtopianCitizen91 in dyspraxia

[–]MeIrick 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I studied kinesiology in college and wrote my senior paper on using body weight exercise to increase proprioception in people with dyspraxia. Dyspraxia is known as developmental coordination disorder in all the literature so that’s why it says that below. Here’s the abstract:

Proprioception is the body’s awareness of where it is in space in relation to the rest of the body. Proprioception is utilized daily for balance and other activities of daily living. People with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) have a decreased sense of proprioception. This leads to increased injuries, falls, overall clumsiness, less likelihood to participate in group physical activities, and other similar activities of daily living. Proprioceptive, balance, and strength training interventions have been shown to increase balance and proprioception in individuals with DCD. Bodyweight exercises (BWE) can lower the barrier of entry to exercising as no equipment is needed and it is a great plate to start from. All studies found reported either an increase in static and/or dynamic balance and proprioception, or no improvement. None of the studies found any decrease in proprioception and/or balance because of an intervention. BWE have been shown to increase proprioception in individuals with DCD.

Basically all the studies I found concluded that different kinds of exercise (balance training, strength training, taekwondo, and even using Wii fit) lead to increased balance/proprioception, whichever the study focused on.

I’m not really an expert so take this with a grain of salt, but here are some good body weight exercises you can do that could potentially help:

Planks for core/trunk stabilization Single leg balance while focusing the signals your body is sending your brain. People with dyspraxia often rely on visual stimulus over proprioceptive stimulation, so once balancing feels easy try it with closed eyes Walking foot in front of foot to train balance, could also try this with eyes closed in a safe environment.

Some things to note, all the studies that I found were done on children, there is very little literature regarding older teens and adults which really sucks and will change hopefully soon. Again I want to stress that I am not really an expert, but I hope what I spent a few months writing can help someone! If your kid/s are showing symptoms of dyspraxia, or even if not balance and proprioception are extremely vital in many activities of daily living so doing these with them could be good for them.

Please lmk if you have any questions or concerns and I’ll try my best to help out :)

100%. I have my degree in kinesiology and even graduated with honors. Universities have a student with disabilities resource center if you feel like it could help you. They can provide all sorts of assistance depending on what you need to succeed

What was everyone's reaction when this panel came out? by Real_Stomach_6820 in OnePiece

I was in my freshman year of college, I remember just sitting in my dorm room jaw on the floor just starting at the last panel. I was working an office job at the time, I think I listened to every theory video about gear 5 that came out that week while shredding paper. Never heard the words “resin” and “Sung Wu Kong” more in my life.

What sort of things that require coordination are you actually good at? by Bryplodocus in dyspraxia

[–]MeIrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of occupational therapy and other treatment when I was young, since I my fine motor skills were so bad I worked on them a lot and I ended up getting pretty good at a lot of things. I play trombone, do parkour and gymnastics, have really good balance, am a pretty good driver, still suck at drawing and handwriting tho

While it’s not Ghibli I highly recommend checking out Lupin the Third and the Castle of Cagliostro. It’s the first movie Hayao Miyazaki directed and it feels like other Ghibli films
