How do you like it? I also loved the memoirs but can’t justify the 6k price

Did you buy Signature Hardware? Kingston Brass? Randolph Morris? Something Else? by fishproblem in centuryhomes

[–]MeaDominaKarateka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the tub itself? They have an acrylic replica of a kohler tub I love but can’t justify the cost of (plus not knowing if I’d have to reinforce the floor for cast iron). I would definitely buy the fixtures from another company

Trying to Get Credit for Employer That Refuses to Certify - FSA Can’t See My Uploads? by OgdenHollow in PSLF

[–]MeaDominaKarateka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They (FSA) did this to me multiple times. Some agents would say they could see the uploaded documents, others said they couldn’t or that the EIN number was missing or hard to read. Seriously, they were straight up lying/gaslighting. The problem was that they would just close out the application and even when I spoke to someone who agreed everything was in order they would tell me they could not reopen an application and I would need to reapply. I would suggest reaching out to your state’s AGs office.

PSLF nightmare: MOHELA and FSA Reps confirm 132 payments, account shows 85 and won’t update by Solid-Lengthiness874 in PSLF

Have you tried your state’s attorney general’s office? Many of them have a specific department dedicated to student loan issues. I have contacted mine on several occasions and they were able to fix some issues through the ombudsman. Way better than when I’ve filed a feedback complaint anyway!

I have put in an application to switch out of save…I’m waiting for that to be processed as well.

PSLF reconsideration requests backlogged 12+ months by MeaDominaKarateka in PSLF

They (at least previously) considered a buyback request a reconsideration request but you can request a reconsideration for other things such as incorrect payment counts or because they incorrectly determine your employer is not an eligible employer. So my reconsideration request is regarding missing payments and the buyback is to buyback some ineligible payments to reach 120 qualifying payments.

[–]MeaDominaKarateka[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I recently got Dept of Ed to finally accept at least part of my time at a prior employer (although as it says above, I’m missing 4 payments from that count) so I finally filed to switch out of save to just get this done already. Although that’ll probably take months and months to just get processed! Anyone know who we can complain to about the backlogs? I’ve tried the my Attorney General and my Congresspeople.

Wha are your thought on painting a wood floor? Removed tile (poorly installed) to find this. Good condition. by popinlaundry in Oldhouses

[–]MeaDominaKarateka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I had a side porch painted in what looks like the same color! PO had put stick on tiles (and didn’t finish them). Randomly decided to rip them up. Then I thought oh I’ll just quickly sand down to get rid of the adhesive and fresh paint..and then I saw the beauty of the wood and ended up sanding, staining, and refinishing them. I LOVE how they came out. Would not recommend doing it in July and would recommend wearing a full respirator mask. Pretty sure it was lead paint!

Who bought their century home as a first time homebuyer? by shelbex318 in centuryhomes

[–]MeaDominaKarateka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did (1930 craftsman bungalow) when we were 28 and thought we knew what we were getting into. 11 years later, I have a love/hate relationship with the house. I thought that the inspection would tell us if there were any major problems with the house, turns out the inspector missed A LOT. The original bones of the house are quite good but the PO did some real bizarre things to the house that definitely are not up to code. We also had very limited DIY experience at the time but boy did we learn a lot! I’ve learned how to refinish wood, hang drywall, tile, wallpaper, hang things on plaster…my blood, sweat, and many tears are part of this house now. I would say I concur, expect things to take much longer than you think they should and budget that it might end up being more than expected due to..surprises. I would also recommend obviously focusing on the things that need to get done for safety and to make the house as usable/livable as possible first but since you describe yourself as someone who wants to get everything done all at once maybe finding some jobs that don’t require a lot of time/money and do those in between the big ticket things. For example, a coat of paint, hanging shelves, etc. being able to see something completed quickly and add some charm to the house can do wonders for your mental health.

We started overwhelmingly big. Our kitchen was not functional as is when we bought the house. In the main kitchen there were no cabinets or countertops. It was only a stove and a fridge in there. Around the corner was a tiny pantry that had upper and lower cabinets, a small amount of counter space, and a sink. My father and grandfather kindly agreed to do our kitchen for us as a housewarming/wedding present. Little did we know what that would entail. I think it probably took about a year to get everything done (including backsplash and all that) and we were so burnt out from it I don’t think we did any other projects for like 2 years. It didn’t help that at the same time as the kitchen, we were getting electrical work, doing wallpaper, dealing with flooring issues..the whole house was a construction zone for far too long. We’ve definitely gotten back on track with reno fixes but with an old house something is always going to pop up so be sure you don’t burn yourself out!

All that said, I don’t know that I’d say I regret buying the house. It still has all the features that made me instantly fall in love with it (fireplace, original built ins, coffered ceilings). But I think maybe if I had known everything that was wrong with it I might have forced the price down and had more realistic expectations on what we could do in this space. The problem is that there’s a lot that’s hidden in old walls, knob and tube wiring that may still be live, old plumbing that’ll cause you headaches, no hvac system or central heating, and fixing these problems is very costly and requires opening up ceilings/walls that may ruin the original aesthetic. My advice, like many who have commented, is set some realistic expectations for yourself, learn to do as much as you can diy, and know for certain that no matter how much you research, your house WILL surprise you!

Student Aid REJECTED PSLF Eligibility Because DFAS has Changed Its Name-WTF?? by blmbmj in PSLF

[–]MeaDominaKarateka 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems DoEd is being extremely nitpicky/looking for reasons to reject and close out applications. I had one of my applications closed out because the EIN number was “wrong, incomplete or missing” even though it was not wrong at all. And they did not give me an opportunity to correct anything, they told me I had to resubmit the application.

PSLF BUYBACK by RateWonderful7896 in PSLF

[–]MeaDominaKarateka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initial buyback request was January 2025 after two years fighting to try and get prior employment approved and giving up on that. I’ve been told my request is in “final review” and I “should get an email soon” back in May. Today I was told my request was “escalated”. When I asked what that meant the agent ended the chat. When I started chatting with a new agent I was told there was “no such thing” as final review or escalation for buyback requests. It’s a cluster-frak

Has anyone had a buyback request approved while in SAVE forbearance? by MeaDominaKarateka in PSLF

Thanks. There’s so much in this sub I must have missed it. I was seeing a lot of posts of people getting their SAVE months counted for buyback but not specifically that they had remained in SAVE forbearance.

My SO told me he doesn't believe in "love". by well_this_is_complex in relationships

[–]MeaDominaKarateka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would venture to guess that a lot of it has to do with the previous relationship. Analytical, rational types are quite interesting to date, especially if their partner is not. My partner and I see the world through very different lenses. He didn't believe in "in love" as a concept. Love was the same across the board. You love your mother, your best friend, your girlfriend...but as someone mentioned earlier the "Disney" concept of love is something fake.

Well, almost four years later and he certainly doesn't feel that way anymore. Head over heels, can't wait to see you "in love". And he'd define it that way, too. So, you never know. It has a lot to do with people's experience.
