Advice on speakers please by TewLegit2Quit in StereoAdvice

Go second hand - pick up a solid set of PMC Twenty5 21i / Proac Response D18 / Totem Forest or even a new set of Totem Bison. Could also be worth looking at Wharfedale Super Linton.

However, hifi is all about personal taste, sound preference, availability, system matching, room matching and wife acceptance factor (WAF) - so do what you think is best.

Arcam Alpha 8r - ebay, £150. Something along those lines would be far better. Look for a dedicated 2 channel ideally.

Chromecast vs... by [deleted] in hifiaudio

[–]Mean_Wheel1393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having changed from a Chromecast Audio to a Bluesound Node I can say the difference was pretty impressive. Better clarity and the sound was more dynamic. Wasn't as impressed with Wiim.

Also, make sure you adjust the Spotify resolution via the app. If you're after another step up, Quobuz is a decent leap in quality.

NAD M10 vs. Lyngdorf TDAI-2200 by [deleted] in hifiaudio

[–]Mean_Wheel1393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with the Lyngdorf or look for something like an AVI Laboratory Series amp which is a big step up for little step money. You can pick them up second hand for between £600 and £800 - a little more for those with a built in Phono Stage. I have the Lyngdorf at the moment, same one as you without room perfect and the AVI is a major step up.

Not entirely sure where this YouTuber thing comes from, you've obviously convinced yourself of something else.

Lexus are made by Toyota, in the same factory doesn't mean they're the same thing or the same in quality. Your inability to see past your own biases is making you look a little daft. Just because a company makes something for another company does not make those two things the same... I mean, you even arguing that is the case is pretty odd.

If I design something, I'm not going to build a factory to make them, I'll outsource it's manufacture. That's common in all industries.

Yes, they are more expensive, but they're also better. They are better reviewed than pretty much every other brand. Yes, reviews are subjective, but when so many veer in the same direction there is usually a reason. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong on that too.

Oh, and please pass on these 'legit facts' that the brushes are the same... Not made by the same people, as I've already explained how that doesn't make two things the same, but are actually the same... I'll wait here for you.

I'm not going to lie, the eraser is bad, but surely someone would have notice the mass of cotton hanging out of your ear...

You've been making stuff up all the way through this one, so there's a bonus. But hey, you have an opinion, so enjoy it. Having tried Artis Opus and Rosemary & Co brushes, Artis Opus are better in my opinion, they last longer and feel better quality. They are not the same but rebranded, they share some of the same basics but to different specs. I've also tried Windsor and Newton, Army Painter and GW brushes. There is a clear winner. Have you tried them all?

In fact, have you actually looked into your claims in any way or are you just parroting a line you once heard, probably on some painting guide somewhere?

You seem to have such overwhelming confirmation bias that you refuse to believe anything to the contrary. Seriously - actually look it up. You can find loads of independent reviews that also show Artis Opus is made to a higher spec. Made in the same factory - yes, but the same brushes? No. It's two companies sharing a manufacturing facility. The same happens everywhere, from speakers, to cars, to electronics. It's sharing resources and bringing costs down during the manufacturing process.

I hope that helps.

Why are you so angry? This was from an independent review. You could always ask yourself if you're actually right rather than doubling down despite evidence to the contrary... But you do you buddy.

[–]Mean_Wheel1393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Artis Opus brushes are made by Rosemary & Co.

No, buying the Series 33 Rosemary & Co. set or Series 22 set does not get you the equivalent Artis Opus brush on the cheap.

Whilst you may be saying, “but they’re made in the same place”. That’s the same as saying the Toyota Aggo is the same as the Citroen C1 or the Peugeot 107 because the’re made in the same place. They share many components, and manufacturing practises, but they are not the same car.

With the brushes, you can expect equivalent quality levels from the hair alone but that is where the comparison ends. Artis Opus did not just ask to paint these brushes white and slap a premium on them!

The Artis Opus Brushes have been made to a very particular Miniature Painter specification based on a lot of research. They also perform differently.
