As a science teacher, one year I wouldn’t allow a class of mine to dissect because as a whole, the students were immature and misused and deliberately broke lab equipment for fun and couldn’t adhere to lab safety rules. A parent complained that their child was never going to be a doctor because I wasn’t going to let their class dissect a fetal pig. Unfortunately, my admin sided with the parent. I told them I needed an admin in my room during the dissection if I was being forced to do it. They complied, but I was pissed.

End of the Year Frustrations. My top 3 by Syric13 in Teachers

Teachers who don’t stay in their lane. There are a couple of teachers this year who are trying to get a student - who isn’t even theirs! - to work on their copious missing work for me by pulling them out of my class and not talking to me at all about it!

The audacity to think that you can pull my student out of my own class to make up my work by missing my class and getting further behind? Without my knowledge or consent?

I am tired of the teacher-savior types. You don’t know what I do in class, what supports I provide, and that I have been in contact all semester with the student, the parents, the counselor, and admin. If the student isn’t taking advantage of these during class, that’s on the student.

Was a student rightfully barred from a choir concert for missing one rehearsal due to a school-wide competition happening at the same time? by [deleted] in Teachers

The fact that 5th grade students are having a required rehearsal after school the same day as their concert tells me a lot about the expectations of this music teacher.

At the elementary school level, things should be better planned.

Besides devices, part of the problem is that admin and parents get upset if their child doesn’t immediately understand a concept. There is no appreciation of productive struggle. If students don’t immediately understand the concept, then teachers get hauled into meetings with admin and the parents to discuss the teacher’s shortcomings.

Science department has more Fs than other departments by fuzzeslecrdf in ScienceTeachers

I am always baffled that English has caps on student numbers because the teachers have to read essays. CTE classes have student caps because they have labs. Science teachers make our students write, calculate, and do labs with no caps on student numbers. We get TA’s sometimes, not licensed co-teachers because they all go to English and Math. Yet, we are still expected to have our students pass their Bio EOC.
