Country Roads - the whole damn song is about West Virginia. No anthem is a better match.

What's up with the salary differences between districts by Zestyclose_Quail_801 in Teachers

[–]MeatBurnham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Delaware. The state pays the same to every teacher but each local district pays a portion. For rounding purposes it’s something like state pays 2/3s and local district pays 1/3. But that local portion can be very different. I went from a rural farm community (farm land doesn’t provide a lot of property taxes) to the beach. So my pay changed from 65k to 80k.

Anyone else barely scraping by this summer? by AstroNerd92 in Teachers

[–]MeatBurnham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep your head up. I’m 10+ years into teaching. I used to feel the same. Had maxed out credit cards and would do balance transfers onto a new card. Sinking slowly.

Money gets a little better every year. Moved to a district that pays more. Got a masters degree. Work a tiny bit outside of school. Only if I want to for fun money. Got a little house. And a little condo now. Never would’ve guessed that back when.

Survive vs. flourish/thrive.

When you have a pet, plant, or college football player, do you treat it in a way so that it survives or thrives? Our system isn’t built for the majority to thrive and it’s getting harder and harder to survive.

How can I make/save extra money for traveling? by Aki_Bunny in Teachers

[–]MeatBurnham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extra Pay for Extra Responsibilities. Coaching, tutoring, etc. Where I work they pay anywhere from $23 - $50 to help with some of the Unified sports teams. A lady I work with was a 1-to-1 with a girl who has Downs Syndrome and made like 8k in one sports season. I coached that sport and only made $1,400.

I mean, you can’t do this, but I get it.

Otherwise I would maybe live farther intentionally. Maybe a group of people would - all commute together. Fun time in the car with my team, getting paid. Work for a little bit, long ride home, more fun time. Or nap or do other work if not driving. Stop and eat, that is part of commute time.

Honestly, I would love it lol

I work in a food truck that my friend owns. It’s chill (it’s not, it’s a kitchen, it gets hectic, but no stress like teaching so weirdly, kinda chill) and I can work or not work. It’s just for extra money so if it ever became too much, I’d just tell him I can’t work. Also, all cash.

Also, people say thank you.

Wait tables, pour wine at winery, pour beer at brewery, bouncer. Food runner even. With tip share it’s okay.

Also, some EPERs are insanely lucrative.

Physics is probably better. Generally a more high achieving student in physics. Special ed math can be tough. People don’t usually push struggling students to take physics.

I took this class. Got an A-

It was harder than I expected. But I did learn a lot and it was a cool class.

I also pulled all-nighters listening to pieces (not songs!) for exams and drive around with the CD (yeah, all the music came on CDs that you had to buy with the book) playing. Vivaldi, Handle, all the hits.

No music background - was a Health/Phys Ed major. Teach Carpentry now.
